I do believe in the alternate timeline idea but I really don't even begin to entertain anything regarding the credibility of the John Titor story. It was obviously a hoax as none of his predictions came true.

Breathing techniques are really important for meditation and AP'ing.
You can try to mimic your breathing from past nights but I think the most important think is to learn the techniques first.
It's important to know how to control your breath.
Learn how to take big slow breathes that takes a long time to feel your lungs. Learning how to exhale properly also.
When you got those techniques down it will be really easy for you to AP.
Theses techniques not only teach you how to breath properly, when practiced you will feel as if you're not breathing at all.
It puts you into deep trance and help phasing much more easily.
I can take a long breath and when I exhale I feel energized yet very calm.
It's harder to try to imitate your sleep breathing than learning how to breath for meditation purpose.
It's also important to have a flow in your breath, by that I mean that your inhale and your exhale feels the same(there's no breaks between both).
Hope that helps you.

Life is but a video game already.

Because you need the time for your sleep cycle to get interrupted "just enough".
A few seconds of being awake after that interruption happens isn't enough.
You'll simply slip back into a normal dream-state instead of remaining consciously aware.

I use them every single night and every time I Consciously attempt to AP.
I say at night "By my act of will, I RELEASE my focus over my physical body. PLEASE, TAKE ME to your desired destination. SHOW ME what I need TO SEE. TEACH ME what I need TO LEARN. I AWAKEN in my Dreams consciously aware, so I may LEARN FROM and ENJOY them. I become LUCID in them so I may REMEMBER THEM.
Every capitalized word I see as fading into the darkness before my eyes.
I have a 100% success rating with this. yes, you read that right, a 100% success rate.
I am not boasting here, I say that because out of every technique I have tried, this is the only one that works every single time.
I have been doing this every night for over a year now. Some nights I stay consciously aware right into the Dream. Others I awaken in the Dream, with full conscious awareness of what is occurring and I can then just play it through or alter it to my liking.
Lately I have been playing it through to see where the teachings lead to.

Your body has recharged lots and doesn't need to sleep so urgently. You are also in the perfect state to project the instant you wake. Its also a better time as you're unlikely to be disturbed if that problem applies.
Basically you're half way there without doing anything.
More people have their first success this way by far and this backs up why.

The stage you "project" at is the same stage as if you weren't use the binaural beats at all. Nothing changes with the use of them. If you have trouble finding the proper point to project from, using binaurals aren't going to help you find it.
