I used something like that when I was into psionics (using things to help with psi stuff) for remote viewing. You made a thoughtform like an eyeball, tell it to relay pictures to your third eye, then move it out and to where you want it. But it was really like you were there, instead of watching it like a TV screen. And you still could feel your physical body. This technique sounds kind of like the golden dawn tech. Hmmmm....

Sounds like you're just not spending enough time on it. I spend around at least 5 min. Before I get any sensations. In 10 minutes The air starts getting wavy, like the thermals off the ground on a hot day. Just keep at it until you get so bored you can't any more. []

It's the same as regular hypnosis. You're basically in the theta range and it's like when you are awake and can hear, but you don't want to move. You have a lot of theta waves when you are a small child, which is why you are influenced so easily. Hypnosis is basically putting you in that state.
So...no it's not dangerous.[]

Just to add to the topic, some say that the Schumann resonance, which has been growing, that in 2012 it will stop at 13hz.
