QuoteJarrod, I agree..I need to change my mentality about it, I think what blocks me though, is that i'm thinking too much about, when it's going to happen, how do I know, is there something I should be doing to aid that boost to actually make the projection.

I think the best way to learn is to focus on the practice itself and not the desired result.  I once had a yoga teacher who used a little time in one of our classes to show us how to meditate.  She offhandedly said that if we should find ourselves accidentally wandering in the spirit world to just gently bring ourselves back and continue the meditation.  To people like her, everything that people like you'll find in this forum try to do is just a distraction.  I asked her more about it after class and she said that most nights she either meditates straight into her dreams and keeps meditating or finds herself lucid in her dreams and just resumes her meditation.  That sounds crazy to me because my goal has been to be able to explore the spirit world.  But I think it's that kind of single minded dedication to meditation that makes the more traditionally spiritual people like that so natural.  We make it harder than it is by focusing on our end goal and spending our energy trying to make things happen, when we should be devoting our energy to training, and be less involved in the results.  What happens will happen when your mind and spirit are ready for it, not because you make it happen.

QuotePerhaps people should be focusing more on this type of experience and believe they can get there rather than fearing and believing in demons and looking over their shoulders every time they project...

Yes.  Positive expectation is much more productive than fear.

QuoteI do know that it is not going to come easy, but I also know my body and know I can get to that state very quickly sometimes, I just don't know what to do with it

You really shouldn't hold the assumption that it is not going to come easy.  Believing that makes it true.  I believed that when I first started practicing about seven years ago and I think that belief is what held me back, a mental block.  Don't hold any assumptions about difficulty, just experiment and practice and accept what comes as it comes.

On a side note; Summerlander, loving the new picture.  That old one freaked me the !@#$ out every time I looked at it.  Haha.  No offence

When I used to have this a lot kicks would have full effect but punches would be weak and useless.

QuoteI think when not physical - stick to the non physical. I control elements in my dreams and I use them when I can. Airbender style... though this was before the cartoon actually came out!

What a cool idea.  That's sounds like a really fun thing to do if I find myself lucid dreaming, see what element I feel most comfortable manipulating.

And on the original topic of the thread, about a week ago I had a dream in which someone was being very menacing in a psychotic creepy way, standing in my doorway and not going away and smiling at me all crazy and evilly.  I kept striking them but no matter how hard I thought I hit them it had no effect.  He just wouldn't move.  He went away and came back a couple times and the last time I just stabbed him.  I guess that was unexpected because he did react to that and I was able to push him out the door.  I don't think it ended it though because I remember running from him at some point after that.  Haha

Families with a history of spirituality always remind me of the Mayfairs.  I wish there were intriguing secrets and magic hidden in my family.  I have a friend with a family kind of like that and she's pretty naturally gifted.  Maybe we inherit more than genetics from our parents.

Quotethank you very much, this has helped me out with trying to understand this.
You're welcome.

QuoteI'm still learning lol ^_^
As are we all.

QuoteYikes, and thanks for your thoughts Jarrod.  It does seem like I have a lot of calming down to do.

Sexual imagery is typically what I use as the center of my visualizations, which is probably the most counterproductive thing I can do.  It seems that even when I try to imagine something more innocent, it tends to spiral out of control into something more 'sinister' >.<

Maybe I should move away from procedures that require visualization at all?  Hmm...

Well I wasn't condemning sex.  I don't think there's anything wrong with sexual impulses personally.  They just tend to be unstable in the astral and anything that thrilling or that makes you lose your grounding in your surroundings has a tendency to land you back in your body if you're not extremely used to it to the point where it's not overwhelming and you can stay calm.

That sounds kind of like my reaction to discovering astral projection, and my frustrations trying to learn how to do it.  Although I still can't do it at will, I think I know some of my, and maybe your, underlying difficulties.  The attitude I approached it with, pretty much what you described, obsessive awe, is part of what held me back I think because it made me react too much to everything that happened...or didn't happen.  I'm beginning to think that a better attitude to hold is one of mild curiosity and just going with the flow.  When something happens that's nice.  When it doesn't, I don't worry, it will.  And a note about sexual energy and the Spirit World.  Usually when you have a sexual urge in the Astral it spirals almost immediately into an orgasmic release that will most likely leave you back at your body within a few seconds.  Though that's not always the case with me, it usually happens that when I'm naughty in the Spirit World I wake up.  I never have taken the opportunity to test that in a lucid dream but it usually wakes me up if it happens in regular dreams.

In my opinion, you don't need to try to get past the lucid dreaming phase because lucid dreaming and astral projection are just two different methods of getting to the same place.  The experience may feel a little different because of your level of awareness when you get there, but if you practice being as lucid as possible then a lucid dream is the same as AP.  Also, how you can communicate with your "inner consciousness" or subconscious or whatever you want to call it.  Normally when you dream you're basically experiencing your mind objectively, which gives you a great opportunity find out things about yourself you didn't know and deal with all kinds of issues.  Most dreams are self created environments in the astral.  If you become lucid and want to move to the real time zone, the physical world viewed from out of body, then just become as lucid as you can, maybe by stating something to that effect like "lucidity now!" and you can try coming back to look at your body.  This is tricky because it might make you wake up but if you can keep from waking up, then finding your body where it's sleeping will put you closer to the rtz I think.  Responses you get to questions like this will only be people's opinions though.  The only way to find out is to do it.

Quote@ Jarrod
I don't agree with you in some points.
Yes, we only have one mind.
The subconscious of us knows things that we don't know.
It is able to do things which are extraordinary.

Disagreement is useful.  It brings us closer to the truth.  Which points did your opinion differ on?  I agree which what you said in the above quote.

QuoteI 'recommend' public transport or any droning engine is great. I have always had amazing experiences on and around long distance plane journeys. I think this is because of the unusual environment and messed up sleep pattern. There is a wonderful sweet spot during plane journeys.. a bliss feeling when its traveling at night and you can only hear the hiss of the engines and slight tinny noises of music playing on headphones... there is also a perfect ambient light.

Car rides put me in a wonderful state when I was little.  Sadly though I don't get car rides any more being 23.

QuoteExperiences during holidays in other countries are always diverse and absolutely different in content and sensation. Probably because of the cavalcade of new information I've gathered during the stay or maybe there are more exotic reasons.

I think it's because the experience is completely new.  Anything you experience for the first time you experience much more lucidly because your mind isn't getting in the way.

I don't think my environment matters nearly as much as the state I'm in.  Relaxed with nothing pressing in the near future, really tired in the mid afternoon.  If I just fling myself on my bed like that chances are I will spontaneously project.  I try not to put too much importance on what's around me, after all, it's what's inside the mind that matters.

Quotebut the sensation was enough for me to go "WTF was that!"
I know exactly what you mean.  My first experience was like that.  I had heard about astral projection from a friend at school and was giving it a go.  I didn't know if I believed in it but what the heck you know, why not try.

QuoteAfter gettin' though all the fluff, I found you guys
Regrettably there are copious amounts of fluff covering up most spiritual subjects.

The terms "conscious mind" and "subconscious mind" are misleading.  You only have one mind, and you're usually only aware of a small part of it.  That small part which you are aware of, which constantly fluctuates in size, is called the conscious mind.  But your awareness can stretch to encompass more of your mind, and the part of your mind that you aren't aware of, the unconscious mind, can be lessened by learning to let go of attachments and stop the process of thinking.  That's what the mind is really; a process.  It isn't a thing.  When you learn to completely stop your mind you've reached enlightenment, freedom from the mind.  So it isn't really that you need to merge the two parts of your mind.  You only have one mind, and you need to learn how to stop it.

I've experienced some pretty intense throat chakra sensations recently.  As I'm drifting off to sleep my unconscious starts to take over functions like swallowing.  When I'm not quite asleep yet and my throat swallows involuntarily it makes me feel an energy rush there that's kind of shocking because I'm almost asleep.

Some people say they can last all night and some say they have to periodically come back to their body.  The longest I've managed is about two minutes I think.

I hope this doesn't sound offensive, but if she doesn't believe what you're telling her about what happens to her during her episodes and doesn't admit to herself that there is a problem, maybe you could video record her during one of her episodes and then show it to her afterwards.  Realizing that the problem exists has to be the first step in fixing it.  Also, may I suggest that you not try to persuade her to stop APing.  It seems to drive a wedge between you because she's determined not to and if you're going to help her you need to be on the same team together in this and as close as you can be.  Plus, I think the root of the problem is something in her subconscious and her spiritual openness and belief system have facilitated it.  I don't think her stopping astral projecting would necessarily solve the problem.

When I close my eyes and let go, I don't get what you call mind static Dazino, or the visuals that people usually refer to when talking about phasing.  I just get concept static, the same kind of confused illogical jumble of stuff but it's not particularly audio or video.  I usually try to quiet that though because I thought it was counterproductive.  I'll try just going with it and see what happens.

QuoteIt's hard at first, because most of us are not brought up to be mindful, but eventually, it gets easy, and is your natural state of being.

I think I was very mindful when I was very little.  The thing that stands out most in my memories from then is my state of mind.  It was so different from what it is now.  My focus just gradually got distracted by my mind and turned inward as I got older and had to think more.

QuoteRight now I am focusing on mastering constant awareness of my surroundings in both my waking life and dream journeys, Mental stillness/peace, Pranayama, Lucid dreaming and recall, and various energy work.

This is my focus right now too.  Except Pranayama, though I do practice belly breathing now after taking a yoga class.  It's starting to become a habit.  Have any tips on constantly staying mindful in the present moment?

The law of attraction is real, but the context in which The Secret film and book present it is misleading.  I don't believe that it's a conspiracy and that rich powerful people are manipulating the world with the LOA on purpose.  They are using it, but that's just because it's a natural law.  Everybody and everything in the universe is governed by it, just like gravity.  Rich people just instinctively have the appropriate mindset for attracting that to themselves.

Hm.  Recently my girlfriend got sick with a stomach virus and was sick for about a week.  After she had gotten mostly better I got it but it only slightly affected me for one day.  I usually do full body circuits most days.  I hadn't considered that that could be a factor in why the virus affected me so little.  I just thought my immune system is better.  Who knows.

I have a question about this.  I couldn't tell from reading the above two posts.  When you're OOB, do your chakras come with you or do they stay with your body?  I know they're like the anchor points that hold all the different levels of "you" together, so that means they bridge the physical, spiritual and mental.  So I'm not sure what happens to them when your awareness leaves the body, or does this, like many other things, depend on what you're expecting?

* Diet for projection
   - mostly unnecessary
* Protecting yourself
   - Sexually: a very good idea, but remember that condoms aren't completely 100% effective.
   - Spiritually: completely unnecessary...unless of course you think it is...in which case all you have to do is realize that it isn't to again make it unnecessary.
* Pre-planning your journey
   - It helps if your presence of mind isn't firm enough to hold you in place without a clear goal in the Spirit World.  More important is practicing mindfulness so that your journeys are more stable and lucid and you won't fade into unconscious dreaming or go rushing back to your body when you have no plan.
* Smoking cigerettes
   - stupid.  Absolutely the stupidest drug ever invented.  It has no benefits and severe detriments.
