it's not that.  i've read a lot of the authors that get praise around here and I like a lot of them quite a bit.

however, as synapz (alfala, d3nd3 and whoever else he's masquerading as) said, sometimes people around here like to hold on to these guys' willy a bit to long.  a little too fanatical for me.  that's all.

Sheesh! I did not say "everything blowing up" was inevitable.

How can you extrapolate to "you and the "terrorists" must have the same holy books of ideology" from anything I said? Logically you can't.

I said conflict is inevitable because it is built in to the system. All in the physical universe is a balance of opposing forces, positive vs negative. The negative is not going to go away just because someone wrote a song about it not being real. It IS real and a Deep Denial La-La attitude is not going to make it go away. That is not to say that one can't create micro-spaces of peace in their immediate surroundings. And enlightened societies can minimize negativity in a closed system -- for a period of time.

If war is perpetual and inevitable, the only logic end it total annihilation, simple as that.  So, just cut to the chase.

The commonality between you and the "terrorists" (by the way, to them, you are the terrorist), is that you both seem to believe that killing eachother is the only solution to our discrepancies.  That's a logical conclusion to me.  But I'm coming from a perspective of total non-violence, not because I'm a pacifist hippie, I am just following the old adage "be the change you want to see" and ensuring that my personal environment is a "peaceful" one (as you suggested).

I believe you misunderstood my sentiment.

I'm at work and don't have the time to properly respond right now, but we are on the same page summer.

That book disputes the claims of the book of law and it's source as part of a conspiracy started some time before crowley had this revelation.  it involves a group of extraterrestrials called the group of nine (the pantheon of egyptian gods), who later took on other names like Ra, Tom and even Atum (the Egyptian equivalent of Brahman).  Different groups channeled these entities with seemingly fantastic results.  However, when you learn the details it seems more likely that they were made up to further some plan (ultimately involving the US government and others) to either prepare humans for an actual extraterrestrial arrival or to manipulate us into believing that such a thing will happen to make a us vulnerable and more easily controlled.

Bottom line, if you really like the book of law, don't read the book I recommended, it bashes all that stuff pretty hard and the research is legit so it would be hard to argue.

Wow. your own propaganda disproves your own final statement. (Note: propaganda does not necessarily imply anything incendiary, just one-sided). I do not believe the 'civilian casualty' numbers repeated by pacifists.

Every 170th soldier dies? That's like half a percent. I think relative to past wars that is almost zero. Ipso facto, the Congress providing the soldier with the best training and equipment pays off in lower casualty rates. Nothing capricious about that.

Pacifism is tantamount to suicide.

The invasion of Aghanistan was not only COMPLETELY justified but probably necessary. Harboring a terrorist who flies airplanes into buildings is a bad thing to do and if those who do so suffer a karmic backlash... well, so be it. That's the way things are.

There are those who look within in order to find truth and those who turn within as an escape. The truth seekers learn and realize the true nature of planet earth and recognize the inevitability of war. Conflict is built-in to the system.

so why wait?  if the inevitability is that war is never-ending for us, lets just blow everyone up right now and save ourselves the trouble.  you and the "terrorists" must have the same holy books of ideology.

brilliant.

I haven't even finished this book yet, so this isn't a review necessarily.  However, I was talking to a friend of mine who has been a Wiccan Priest since the 60's and was instrumental in starting the Christo-Pagan movement in the late 80's - early 90's (he wrote a book that became something of a cult classic and now sells on ebay and amazon for as much as $200 - good book), and he told me that this book was required reading in a lot of the covens he met over the years, as well as many occult groups.

Originally this book was published in 1985 and 1986 as two books, "The Native Tradition" and "The Hermetic Tradition" respectively.  Now they have been combined in one book called "Walkers Between The Worlds".  If you are interested in OBE/Astral Projection/Phasing or just general knowledge and experience of the otherworlds, then you HAVE to read this book.  I have read a lot of books on this topic.  Unlike many of the modern students however, I ventured out past the so-called "new age" realm of AP studies and have also studied AP from numerous traditions around the world (occult, shamanism, psychology, pagan, etc.).  Branching out like that has given me such a large perspective on what AP is and the variations practiced by people since the beginning of human civilization and earlier.  With that in mind, this book is a must read.  It provides a fantastic explanation of what travel to the otherworlds is all about, especially in relative to the processes that are taking place.  On nearly every page in this book I encounter a statement that is just beyond profound and such a beautifully succinct way of answering questions common to between world travel.

I will warn you, those who are overly sensitive to religious material approach this book with an open mind.  The authors describe the experience of between world travels from the perspective of the celtic and norse traditions because that's what they know.  However, they clearly state that any tradition can be used and even spend time getting the reader to think about their own ancestral and current traditions (where your people are from and where you are from respectively).  But more importantly they stress that you need to find/create your own metaphor for these experiences, your own paradigm to lay over the fundamental traditions.  This brings an interesting point to light.  Many people in modern AP are trying to do the exact opposite.  They are trying to remove all tradition from the practice and make it a benign, neutral and mechanistic process.  The authors of this book oppose such a view and they provide ample explanation.  The language of the otherworlds is myth, metaphor and symbolism, so it would make sense to practice in that same language.

When I compare the teachings presented in this book it makes one thing glaringly obvious.  Modern AP techniques are essentially a short circuit of the process, cheating basically.  Phasing is excluded in this statement because phasing involves training and mental tempering, which is basically one of the main skills taught in this book (indirectly).  Modern OBE technique bypasses the discipline in favor of a quick fix by teaching people to catch themselves before sleep in order to experience the other worlds.  The more I've learned, the less safe I feel this method is.  Traditional OBE techniques throw you out of your body with no personal preparation which forces many people into hellish realms (manifestations of their own inner turmoil).

One more thing, for those of you seeking a modern OBE interpretation and technique, this book is not for you.  In this book you will find a very serious (but light-hearted)  guide to the otherworlds and the people who walk between them.  There are over 20 practical exercises and if you stick to it you will learn to AP by reading this book.  But more than that, you will be reconnected with the old religion that first began journeys between worlds.  You will be taken through a progressive journey that starts with visualization journeys and that eventually progress into full phasing experiences.  More than that, following the practices in this book will provide what many of you seek, a spiritual experience in the otherworlds.  There have always been posts on this forum to the effect of "how can i have more spiritual experiences OOB?", and this book provides you with that.  You will learn what your personal myth is, your life's narrative and the themes of your life.  You will meet guides, gather your seal/totem that will be your passport between worlds, meet ancestral energies, and whatever else you want to do.  Bottom line, if you are really serious about AP being your chosen spiritual path, then this book is for you.  If you can look past the Celtic/British Paganism, there are jewels here that are invaluable and in my opinion, this book should be required reading for any serious AP student.

I will when I move.  I'll be moving in 2 weeks, so I have a lot of stuff to get done before I move, no time to produce right now.  But as soon I get to where I'm going, that'll be the first thing I start doing.  I'll even have a dedicated studio when I move (instead of a computer set up in the living room), so it should be even better.

I'll echo on Amit Goswami.  I have some of his books like "self-aware universe".  He brings that Hindu/India perspective to quantum physics which everyone loves right?  I do.

lately it's thomas campbell and his big fungus infected toe, not so much frank.

seriously though, sometimes it's like members here are 13 year old girls and people like frank and campbell are bieber.

in regard to schizophrenics, they are already there.

they see the otherworlds overlaid on our common physical reality.

but they don't know how to control it, it just comes through as sensory overload which makes it nearly impossible to function.

if they could be trained, they could be the seers of our time.  it's the treatment they are given by western medicine that makes it worse, exacerbates the issue.

one might even say that in native traditions, such a person would be sought out to become a shaman's apprentice.  the shaman knows when the child is born that they possess the gift.  i think it's the same gift, but the way schizophrenics are treated in the west just shuts them down, it's too much to handle, it's scary and not at all nurturing.

You guys should check out a book called "The Stargate Conspiracy".

I don't think I would trust Crowley as far as I could throw him for my eschatology.

oooo kaaayyyyy....

"the US and her allies were making moves to cut off exports to and imports from japan, putting a lock down on Japan."

Do you have any idea why they might have been doing this? (Does aggressive Imperial war of expansion sound familiar? Does the "Rape of NanKing" mean anything to you?

Are you serious?  You're talking about Japan trying to expand it's empire?!  We're worse than the bloody Romans!  We have a foothold (military base) in nearly every country in the world.  Not to mention economic control as well (not really true, China owns us all which is why the US along with Russia are instigating WWIII with China).

Do you have any idea how america treats the rest of the world?  Firstly, we only do the queen's bidding (we never revolted, it was an act, we are just a british franchise; that's not speculation, the queen owns the land in the US, international banks own our economy, check out the stock market, the US is a publicly traded company as is the UK, not a country.  You are not an individual, you are a product of USA Corp), secondly we rape and pillage more than anyone else.  Just because our masters have developed a more subtle (and devious) way of oppressing the world, doesn't mean we're better, it means we're more sophisticated.

They did it because of our Imperial Expansion, the American Empire (aka The British Empire).  I don't know if you think that the world is balanced and everyone is working toward equality and sovereignty or what, but that is certainly not the plan.  We obviously aren't doing that, we invade at the drop of a hat and we manipulate and instigate to make sure that hat drops when we want it to.  The end game isn't world peace among individual and sovereign nations.  The end game is one world power ruling over all.

On a side note, this thread is awesome.  I don't even know how we ended up talking global politics!  lol.

It's cool though Rudolph.  I'm sure you can agree, all else aside, global politics are a mess.  When it came down to push and shove, I would probably be just as likely to seek vengeance.  I'd like to think that I wouldn't, but if it's my life or theirs I suppose the natural reaction is toward self preservation.  Anyway, I don't see any "meeting in the middle" on this topic, so we should let it go and part ways as friends.  I bid you good day sir.

America did both of those things.  If not personally (9/11 was totally done by the US gov), then it was at least instigated by them.  Pearl Harbor is a great example.  Before Japan and the US were even in the war, the US and her allies were making moves to cut off exports to and imports from japan, putting a lock down on Japan. (which we are also doing to China right now with Russia, we are instigating WWIII)  Japan retaliated.  Every time we've been "attacked" we had it coming and then some.  These kinds of attacks give congress justification to start wars, because we are a warring country.  no one makes money during peace-time.  This most recent attack on US soil (9/11) is part of a much bigger plan to take the rights of the US citizens so that a dictatorial state can be instituted and no one can argue when it's time to start WWIII.  I think that tactic was used once before......Nazi Germany....ring any bells (muslims/jews)?

If you have any inkling that your government is there to defend you and your rights, you might as well bend over and kiss your butt goodbye now, cause they already got you.

that's only outside of the materialist (in a physics connotation) box.

for true researchers of consciousness, that fits nicely into the box, or the non-box.

This political system is useless to me.  I'm not represented by anyone.  I don't vote and I don't involve myself in it, aside from verbally assaulting annoying liberals (it's not even worth talking to the conservatives).  Lol.  jk, i would never do such a thing.
#666
depends on your perspective.

like you mentioned, absorbing the energy of what we eat and all.  for some who were raised (like myself) to revere and thank the animal that gave it's life for you to eat, perhaps the absorption of that energy would still motivate eating living animals.

but you make a legit point.

Yeah, Plato liked more of a paternalistic government. He did not go for group rule, since he felt that the only people that should rule are the people best suited to it- his "philospher kings", haha. In theory, if it was thoroughly unatrractive to rule, you would only be recruiting those who feared power falling into the wrong hands otherwise. He also believed in state-censorship too. His version of ideal governemnt probably equates to fascism in many peoples eyes today.  8-)

he also hated democracy because the only votes that actually counted were those of the indecisive middle, who by all accounts would be uninformed and the worst people to make the decisions.  the idea is that say 90% of people are very sure and firm on their vote.  they have done the research, they know the policies and platforms of who they vote for and are educated in such matters.  half of them vote for one candidate, half for the other, which effectively cancels their votes out.  the remaining 10% are those people who really don't know, are on the fence right up until the end, and ultimately make a decision on a whim.  this last 10% are the ones that sway the election one way or the other.  in the end, someone gets voted into office based not on merit and a strong policy, but rather on ambiguous ideals that the indecisive few managed to glean right before the election.

our star isn't big enough to collapse into a black hole.  it doesn't have the mass necessary to punch that kind of hole into the fabric of space-time.

like stillwater said, it would take some serious physics magic to make that happen.

#669
most of what i would have to say has already been said.  but i want to echo ryan in that what you're talking about are the basic principles of Einstein's general relativity (time is relative to the observer), and some of the basic principles of quantum mechanics (nonlocality, or action-at-a-distance).

I do want to say that counterpart doesn't necessarily mean opposite in this case.  it's not like a particle of matter and it's sister particle of antimatter are linked upon their creation.  what research has shown is that when two electrons are programmed with the same information, making a connection between the two, what happens to one also happens to the other no matter how far apart they are.  focusing on the "opposite" part isn't really the important thing to take away from that revelation.  what this shows us is that distance is irrelevant, space as distance is irrelevant.  time as we know it and the laws of physics that einstein discovered don't apply to quantum mechanics like they do for the macrocosm.  underneath the physical reality we see, there is some kind of fundamental "field" that interconnects all matter in our visible universe.
#670
Which is another reason why plato hated democracy.

wiki:

Schmuck is most often used in American English as a pejorative or insult, meaning an obnoxious, contemptible person; one who is stupid, foolish, or detestable.

It comes from a yiddish word that means penis or grass dragon.

People have been attempting to make such devices for some time.

A member of this forum built his own device once that seemed to be successful for him, I don't know if he still uses it or has developed the design more or anything.

I guess I'd be of the opinion that the only physical mechanism for travel is your mind.
#673
I agree, which is why i am not in an occult order either.  I still believe that the concern is valid, but I don't feel that anyone but me can really know when I'm ready to take the next step.  I couldn't handle having a "master".  I'm too much of a solitary kind of practitioner.
#674
there is an important aspect of traveling to the otherworlds that modern OBE techniques tend to neglect.

traditionally, the apprentice, the new walker, had to undergo personal cleansing and stabilizing before they were able to go to the other worlds for that very reason.  they would get thrown into "hell-like" realms that were manifestations of their own inner turmoil that hadn't been dealt with.  That was all part of the process of becoming a walker.  Nowadays, such preparation is neglected in favor of the short cut, modern OBE techniques.  In occult traditions you wouldn't even been eligible to learn the techniques of projection until you had evolved personally and spiritually to a degree that was determined by your master.
