You can always try to move an arm and see if it feels like it weighs 30kg! Although I guess this does bring you out of trance a little bit. Im still yet to reach a depth where I lose all body awarness but I can only keep trying!

Hi all

I pretty much just store every last litle bit, but on the occasions when I feel like using low level magic (not often these days I genrally work on my own mind)  it gets put to use then, and the occasional healing when I think about it. So I guess I could be doing a lot more with it by the sounds of things.

Kakkarot and others, please share some of your tecniques for doing these things! Keeping warm and being more stealthily sound really fun and usful!

Im in the same boat as you on the stealth thing Ides, Ive always been a very skilled stalker (in the hunting sence not the creepy one!) however i have always attributed my skill to foot placement, understanding wind direction, weight distribution ect, yes I too would like to add energy work to the list!

I agree with James that the Kirlian aura has little in common with the real aura, a girl at uni showed my a photo she had taken at a psychic fare. Her 'aura' was entierly yellow with no layers. Not to be nasty but I dont think she would have a heap of yellow around her (I cant see layers but colour yet so I would not know).

I have not read this artical of Roberts, thanks for memtioning it!

It seems clear that there is extream variation in how the aura is perceived between individuals. Aside from the example we have given here another would be a very dear friend of mine. She can see the aura right out to the highest spiritual layers in vivid colour, she can see chakras clearly and she takes it all as the norm. But she can not she her own aura at all, not even the ethric around her feet or herself in the mirror, perhaps because she does not think it is possible. She also cant see the auras of people on TV where I can, again she does not think it is posible.

I think Shirley said it well with "As long as you stay open and honest with yourself, follow your own intuition."

Thank you everyone for the valuable imput that is wonderfully common here

Hello nice people!

Well once again thank you all for your helpful advice, apart from gaining some good knowledge I have also become aware that there are many other skinny people here too!

Sahlyn-

This sounds very interesting and I am going to try this for sure. Im not sure if it would reduce the amount of food required but it would reduce the energy used in digestion freeing it for other uses, a little like fasting without the weight loss! Thanks

Hi Mobius, yeah aint the circle book shop grand! BTW to get a little side tracked which uni do you go to? I go to Griffith Logan campus. Anyways thanks for the diet info, it seems fruit and veg are the go.

I have had a big meal tonight and Im going to reduce my food intake a lot, but not totally eating enough fruit and vegtables to keep me from fading away. Ill try this for two days and see what happens! Thank you all for your imput!

Hi all

Tom
Why fast at all, regardless of current weight and height?

Well you often read about fasting for spiritual purposes and perhaps what inspired this was reading Robert talk about the preparation for Kundalini raising which included three days fasting (not that I aim to attempt Kundalini raising at this stage in life) so it obviously has an effect on energy. My assumption ( and assume makes an butt of u and me ) is that the energy normally used in digestion is  made available for other uses. And I know from personal experience that meditation or trance after a heavy meal is very hard to keep focused, so logically it should become easier if you are not digesting anything. So basically I would like to experiment with this.

Mobius

I just did a web search on the Minnie Keeler method and got no where, and I am interested so please do give me an overview if its not to much troble. While we are sharing our skinny stories when I was in primary school it was thought that I was negelected because I weighed 25kg for around four years straight, much to the distress of my mother!

thanks

Na Im more of a Vodca person myself, beer no matter of its national origion is just so damm inefficient!  I mean you have to drink so much fluid to get where three shots of the clear posion will get ya! With consideribly less drinking, flirting and socialising time wased in the toilet!  Some might agrue that the purpose of drinking is for some sort of enjoyment thing and not to get **** faced but I have not come to tearms with such logic as of yet!

 Psi, to quote you

- "I highly reccomend using the speedboat rope technique for trance induction. it keeps your mind busy and focused and it also starts vibrations. Use that technique sometime. It works REALLY well."

Ok Ive experimented with elevators, free falling and scuba diving (btw if you have not tried this for real it is woth the expense, it is so peaceful, well except for drift diving...its kinda violent! ) but I have not heard of said speedboat rope technique. I would be most greatful if you could enlighten me.

Actually what gives me REALLY cool vibrations is a visualization where I fall through four elemental worlds, feeling the resistance of each type of element passing through me. Fire usually makes my physical body twitch and quiver, its neat. I will usually reach a nice trance state when I decend into a relm of spirit and blackness after going through the elements.

HI Gexx!

Welcome to the Astral Pulse! Please dont ever hesitate to ask any questions, a good rule is that the only stupid question is the one you dont ask!

Yep NEG is just a lazy way of typing negative entity, it is a very broard term covering a huge amount of entities from simple to complex but all sharing the common trait of being nasty!

Possesion, serious psychic attack and all of the other horrible things you read about here are not hugely common, kinda like the odds of lighting hitting you  sharks attacking you ect ect. Just remember that this is a place where people discuss these very rare events, and it is human nature to be curious about the nasty things and want to talk about them. Im not saying NEGS arnt common, but the odds of getting any more than a scare (which you will learn to rise above) are in your favour. The human being is a very powerful entity in itself - this is why things try to scare you away while you are vulnerable.

While being hit by lightning might be rare your odds of it happening increase greatly if you carry a lightning rod around. Simply put Fear and negative thoughts are a lightning rod for NEGS. This is the golden rule- LIKE DRAWS TO LIKE. It applies to life and the astral. Avoide dwelling on NEGS and try to control your fears within reason and you have made a potent start towards avoiding NEGS.

Im sure lots of people can elaborate and help too. Keep reading here and maybe buy a copy of Roberts new book to satisfy your curosity and teach you some skills to protect yourself. The world might not be all good and pretty flowers but a well read and practiced human can look after itself just fine. Dont dwell on the bad, remember to see the good too.

You stand at the beginning of a wonderful journey!

HI Cainam

Glad my info taught you something

Q.Do you think that for some reason I am waking after the 1st cycle ends and before the next one starts? Hence the 2 hour limit.

Interesting idea, a good way to tell if you are waking up at the end of the first cycle is that you would most lekely have memory of some dream activity. But that is my logic not something I have read.

I really do encourage you to see a doctor, sleep disorders are very common and Im sure there is quite a knowledge bank out there that you could tap into. Alternatively have you done any web serches on sleep disorders? In a few minutes you could learn a lot that might help. The time invested in seeing a professional could really pay off if you end up with a good days sleep. Plus Im sure sleep has to be good for the energy body too so maybe you could find some motivation there?

Best of luck!

Your questions
1. does it help if I time my wake-up between REM cycles, so that I'm not in the middle of one and harder to wake up (ie, set alarm for 7 1/2 hours or 9 hours from bedtime) ?
2. is there any mental or chemical technique that can give deeper sleep? Not sleeping pills which only seem to put you unconscious, but something that deepens/prolongs REM, etc?

My answers
1.Yes it is likely that you might find it a little harder to wake up from REM sleep, but if you do wake up during REM you are heaps more likely to remember your dreams which is cool.
2. Not that I know of

Something cool

A friend told me about this, if you set your alarm to wake you up 5 1/2 hours (as exact as you can but experiment half an hour each way if you get no results) after you expect to fall asleep. Get up, dont drink or eat or talk. Just go pee, strech and maybe do a little NEW until you are compleatly awake, this should take 15 to 30 min. Now go back to sleep. You have played a little trick on your mind and you should go straight back into a nice long REM stage in which you will have and remember VERY vivid dreams. This is a perfect way to practice lucid dreaming as there is plenty of opportunity here. You can however only really do this on mornings when you can sleep in because you should stay asleep for a few hours after you do this.

David

HI all, sorry I did not post earlier Ive had a pretty hectic weekend (sober too for your information to Joe...Sob). Below is the info on sleeping I said I would post, like I said its nothing earth shattering but maybe there will be a thing or two you didn't know before.

Why do we need sleep?

We each spend about one 3rd of our lives asleep, and yet the biological effects of sleep are poorly understood. However the effects of sleep deprivation can be observed as can brain activity during sleep. When the amount of time devoted to sleep is considered it is likely that sleep provides a time for several body functions. One function of sleep that is easily observed is sleeps restorative function. For many centuries it people have believed that sleep was a way of removing impurities from the body that built up during the day. This has not been observed by modern science, however it has been shown that the body produces several substances during sleep. During slow wave NREM sleep (I will go into sleep stages later) human growth hormone synthesis increases. DUring REM sleep brain protein synthesis is at its maximum.

The daily sleep requirement declines with age. Begining at 16 hours during infancy the sleep requirement declines to between 7 and 8 hours during adulthood. Once adulthood is reached the requirement levels off until old age is reached when it declines further. These are just average figures however, individuals vary significantly in the amount of sleep they require. Individual requirments may exist between 4 and 9 hours for adults.

The dayily cycle of sleep and waking period is called a circadium rythm. In the modern world there are two common disruptions to the circadium rythm- shift work and jet lag. Both cause irregular sleep patterns and an increase in errors made during waking hours.

Shift Work

Consequences of working during normal sleeping hours are that fewer hours are spent sleeping during each circadium rythm and what sleep is had is likely to be unstable. Apparently 62% of American shift workers complained of sleep disorders in contrast to 20% of day workers in a relivent study. The most common problems being waking up frequently during sleep. This is partly due to the increased level of noise during the day.

Sleep cycles and sleep types.

There are two major types of sleep which alternate through most of the sleep cycle. They are NREM (non-rapid eye movement) sleep and REM (rapid eye movement). NREM sleep has four recognised stages that occur before REM sleep is reached. These stages are defined by EEG patterns. During NREM the frequency of brain waves and vital signs decreases. The stages of NREM parralle the levels of trance people go through but arn't relivent in detail here - as long as there is a recognised difference between NREM and REM sleep. After stage 4 NREM (the 'deepest') level of NREM is reached REM begins. VItal signs all increase and idgestive activity declines, skeletal muscles (except for the occular) are inhibited and oxygen intake increases var beyond that of the waking state. It is during this stage that most dreaming occurs. As a matter of interest nightmares normally occur during NREM. After a period of REM the brain goes back up through the stages again to begin a new sleep cycle.

This is going somewhere ok...

The healthy adult experiences six of these cycles during each 7-8 hours of sleep, each cycles lasting about 90min. The IMPORTANT thing is that time spent in REM increases with each 90min cycle, from a few min in the first cycle to over 30min in the 6th cycle.

The above helps you understand sleep deprivation a lot better, and these REM cycles are a major reason why we need to sleep for so long - to get the REM we need we have to stay asleep for several 90min cycles.

Results of sleep deprivation

Being deprived of sleeps restorative function causes tiredness and creates potential health risks. When deprived of REM sleep over a long time people become moody, depressed and exhibit various personality disorders. Freud perposed that REM sleep allows the mind to analyse the days events and work through emotional conflict via dream imagry. Another idea is that REM sleep is reverse learning. According to this hypothesis, accidential, repititious and meaningless communications continually occur, and they must be eliminated from the neural networks by dreaming if the cortex is to remain a well behaved and efficient thinking system. So we dream to forget. Alcohol and sleep medications supress REM sleep. Certain tranquliers such as Valium do not reduce REM sleep as much.

Cainam-

I dont really know enough to help you with your individual circumstances but Ill post some tips for helping with insomnia that may be of use to you.

1. Do not read or do work in your bed, keep your bed as a powerful stimulus of sleep.
2. Go to bed only when you are sleepy and get up at a regular time.
3. Do not lie in bed thinking and worrying. Get up and do something booring until you are sleepy. Some find it usful (me included) to write your worries briefly on a sheet of paper.
4. Once you are in bed, relax your muscles and imagine yourself in a soothing setting - Im sure you can visualize fine and dandy
5. Omit Caffeine and alcohol for several hours before bed
6.Schedule any exercise at least 2 hours before bedtime
7.Avoid long term use of sleeping pills
8. Improve sleeping environment; quiet, dark, and the correct temperature.
9. If all else fails consult your doc, shrink or sleep center (there are apparently hundreds in America - The National Sleep Disorders Foundation in America is mentioned in text a lot.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I have only been at uni for one semester.

Joe:- You are a crazy crazy man, I hope I have ed-u-mak-at-ed you enough for you to understand that you need to sleep and you cant live on 2 hours a night!!!!!!

hope my long winded post has helped or interested someone in some way http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile.gif" border=0>

Hi  TheJza (would you prefer Jza?)

Welcome to the Astral Pulse!

I have not heard about a Maxwell Cade (but Im not hugely well read in meditation books). You dont need a fancy mirror to measure brain waves and the experiment could be done with the equipment commonly used in sleep research. As a side note Robert writes about a 'mind mirror' in Astal Dynamics but it is something different.

Basically more those who are more experienced in trance and meditation can go 'deeper' and obtain the brain waves like those experienced in REM sleep (Delta and Theata?).

By vibrating words of power you can achieve all sorts of changes and many people find mantras a useful tool in meditation. So I guess the tapes could work. Although I would recomend listening to the tapes and memerising the words yourself rather than listening to the tape during meditation. Personly I would find it distracting. So maybe you could try it that way. Its all a matter of preferance, I dislike using mantras all together. Have you tried other methods to see how they work for you? Robert has writen some good ones.

Hey Joe, Cainam stole our topic! And Adept stole the quote I was going to use! And you...YOU are being serious! Actually beliving what you are arguing...disjusting. http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile_tongue.gif" border=0>

Well Joe dispite your current flirting with sanity Ill stand by you as illogically as ever! Dont you see good sir that being argumentative and illogical is like sitting on the fence and being in peoples faces at the same time? And EDUCATIONAL TOO!!!!!   Do you think its to late to introduce the rules this late into the topic? Probably...

The Dali Lama recently visited Australia, when he was questioned at a function about why if he taught love and peace did he carry a gun when he fled Tibet he responded "Because I am not stupid...but  I wound not have shot anyone in the heart, I would have aimed for the leg". Well I guess rules are made to be broken huh?

From the point of view that violence is spiritually wrong:
Peace is a decision, violence is an instinct. Is the instinct of violence a characteristic of a less evolved being? Perhaps. Do we live in a world numerically dominated by less spiritually evolved people, yes. And if you dont realise that your evolved concept of life is easily dominated by 'lessor' people with their violent ways, and adjust accordingly...you are already dead.

But if we disregard the BELIEF that violence is spirtually wrong (a common idea in various organised religions) and take a fresh look it is evident that violence and destruction are neutral. A natural force. The goddess of destruction of War and retribulation. Things that NEED to exist in our current world. Because in order to create something new, we must first destroy something old. This broad idelogy can be narrowed down to an individual conflict.  If someone attacks you wish for a change of situation. One in which you are safe and there are no threats. To create your prefered environment you have to change your current one. You must destroy what is preventing your prefered environment from existing to obtain it. Thus you destroy your opponent.

Violence is nothing more than a tool to create change, it is not 'Bad' or wrong. Do you blame the hand saw that builds the gallows?

What ever rights you enjoy, what ever peace you have, somebody has fought for. Where ever there is peace there was once blood.

Yes a world where nobody initiated violence against there fellow people and everybody just got along would be very nice. But it does not exist, and it wont. Thus is the nature of common man.

Antagonist

I recomend that you do a web search on psychic vampirism, and be careful of RP sites. You should learn all you can about this.

I dont know your friends or your background but if you follow the right hand path or even the middle path than you might be getting a little lost. Psychic Vampirism might be good for a quick enery fix but nothing comes without a price. What your friend is doing is wrong, it is stealing from and violating people in the worst possible way. It is entering a sacred space without invitation. Taking energy from a consenting person or from a natural occurance (for eg a thunder storm) is different, not in mechanics but in principal and consequence.

The people who might seem like they have more energy to 'share' or those the energy feeder might find the most attractive to feed on  are the ones who might destroy the vampire. Can you imagine what a person like Robert could do to a neophyte vampire attepting to feed on him? There are many people who post here who I am sure could bring down a mightly wrath on an energy feeder. And there are also bigger fish who might decide to eat you. There is a distinct sub-culture to psychic vampierism and a lot of ego. And just like TV there are people who will not take kindly to those who are seen to be psychic vampires.

If you consider yourselves good people then reconsider taking on this ability. By all means read and satisfy your curiosity because knowledge is power. But it is wrong to do and you will never get away with it in the end. If you wish to manipulate energy consider Reiki or a form of healing, learn to see auras for the right reasons. No good will come to you or your friend from stealing peoples life force.

Sir Joe

The way you have put Christianity in parrallel with my beliefs and practices makes things a lot easier to understand. My ignorance of Christian type behaviour is now somewhat apparent. Although I see and have said that the Christian ritual of Baptism is using the same forces as might be used in a magical initiation I have not looked at the ideology behind this practice entierly fairly.

Perhaps my strong resentment of preaching (I have christian friends who are against it to, and some that do it) and Christianity attempting to force itself onto people throught history and in contemporay time (so much knowledge, history, intelligence/good genes, and Life has been lost) has spilled over into my view of baptism. What im saying (before confusing everyone with too many things in brackits http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile.gif" border=0> ) is that it is easy to see baptism as an attempt to 'get em while they are young' and neglect the side of loving parents trying to protect their children the only way they know how.

Im not saying that it is right to conduct a permanent ritual on an infant - or anybody (although some think it might not be so permanent) but it does now seem more difficlut to critisise parents for Baptising their children when Love and protection are bought into the equation. So Im not saying that I agree with it ( it is still placing/forcing ones beliefs on a  another), but I now certainly can empathise with parents who do it.

Wow Joe you made me see another point of view...Now thats tallent! http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile_big.gif" border=0>

I guess they are ligher shade/magnitude.  Like if you are in complete darkness with a street lamp behind you your shadow is darker than if you cast one in a dimly lit room. The aura shadow is like the shadow you would cast normally in the dimly lit room but in complete darkness. Make sence?

I have only ever seen it outside at night when it is nice and dark. I agree with your idea that it is unlikely for energy to cast a shadow, it is hard to believe. But I have seen it, I might experiment with it over a few nights and post again about it. Maybe I was hulucinating http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile_wink.gif" border=0>
