Hey Cody, I used to suffer from anxiety and mild depression a few years back.  I found that by focusing on the present moment I was able to eliminate both of my conditions almost completely.  It took me a while to get used to focusing on the ĎNOWí but once I got accustomed to it, it was a piece of cake.

You can do it!  wink

Sure, as long as itís comfortable and you donít have a problem falling asleep.  Iíve had quite a few spontaneous projections while sleeping on my stomach but nowhere near the success rate than on my back but, hey, were all different; you sound like you can be very successful at it.  Good Luck.

9  Spiritual Evolution / Welcome to Spiritual Evolution! / Re: Thomas Campbells view on reincarnation on: December 21, 2011, 22:19:33
Well, okay, fair enough. Also, I was thinking more of the trusted-guides-issue when I talked about trust by intuition, but I see that this is of course another topic now, as we talk about afterlife concepts here.

I do not believe that there is something to erase because 'over there' in NPMR we "are what we are" (so to speak), and this is automatically different from what we are here. So our 'identities' (egos) here are more or less an illusion if we believe them to be persistent or the basis of our true Being / Self.

To use a metaphor: What we are here is a kind of 'role' we play here, that's the way I see it. Looking at it like a 'role' has the advantage that it is a neither/nor or either/or-thing. You bring yourSELF into that role as you play it - so it IS YOU indeed on a certain level. On the other hand, it is still a role and it is temporary. You leave the stage, take off the costumes and go home when the play is done.  wink

And that also, in turn, does NOT mean the identity's role is erased by anyone (or ourselves), why should it be? It just means that they do not even exist on that higher level entirely, just like (to stick to the metaphor) you leave the stage and stop playing the role and still are yourself - and keep your memory, knowledge and skill of the role you played. So for me it is not a trust issue at all because these things will come back naturally to us, when we are back, after our death here. You will KNOW that it is "just" a role and no one will have to convince you of it or force you to believe something or even 'erase' something.

Yeah, that can also be a possibility, and I respect that but whenever I come across the concept of reincarnation I canít help but look at myself with my limited awareness and wonder if I did the right choice (if it was indeed my choice to reincarnate here).  I mean, to come here and decide to start fresh without any memories from the past takes a huge leap of faith.  Maybe the afterlife is how you say it is, or maybe not. Itís all hypothetical at this point.  undecided

I guess we will all deal with it in our own way when the time comes.  Cheers.  cool
10  Spiritual Evolution / Welcome to Spiritual Evolution! / Re: Thomas Campbells view on reincarnation on: December 20, 2011, 23:37:15
So is INTUITION an antagonist or even the contrary of TRUST?  huh
And how about using one's INTUITION to TRUST s.o. (if you have it) - should you rather DIS-TRUST your INTUITION then?

Certainly, I agree with regard to INTENT. To have the INTENT to trust s.o. or sth does not justify it and can even be dangerous, but if you 'intuit' it?

You see, I am not too sure about the usefulness of a general "100%-trust-none"-policy forwarded here by the majority of posts now.
I agree that one should always be 'cautious' but that is still sth different from being entirely 'distrustful'. Btw, this applies, for me, to physical as well as astral life.

Thereís a difference between trusting yourself (intuition) and trusting those outside of yourself.  But the kind of trust that is being referred here (I think) is not in reference to the trust between loved ones, a life partner or a business partnership (great joy and great pain can come out of those, but we learn valuable things from them)--the trust in context here is in regard to granting someone/something outside of yourself the authority to erase your identity and assume that they have your best interest in mind.

Itís always a good idea to exercise extreme caution.  If at the end, after using my intent, I canít find another way then Iíll have no other choice but to take a leap of Ďfaithí.

No, I hear you I think this way too! Lol this reminds me of the movie eraser with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Glad I'm not the only one haha That movie sounds interesting; I'll try to watch it if I have time.

Yes... trust no one and USE YOUR INTUITION AND INTENT. That's really all you've got. You can keep trying to figure it out or give up and hope for the best.

14  Spiritual Evolution / Welcome to Spiritual Evolution! / Re: Thomas Campbells view on reincarnation on: December 19, 2011, 22:59:50
Some questions that have baffled me regarding the theory of reincarnation are these Ė How do I know that the ďbeingsĒ guiding me through the afterlife, assuming there is one, are benevolent?  How can I trust them enough to allow them to wipe my memory clean?  How do I know that they donít have their own secret agenda? Robert Monroe once wrote about us being on the earth for the purpose of providing/harvesting ďlushĒ or something of that nature.  Tom himself says that our purpose is to reduce our entropy in order to help AUM/AUO achieve a higher state of being but what are the intentions of AUM/AUO.  How do I know that reincarnation is not a scam to keep me trapped in this planet for harvesting or whatever?

Maybe some cleaver beings propped-up a scenario in the afterlife in an effort to take advantage of our lack of understanding of what is going on (being new to the afterlife and all) and dupe us into believing that we need to reincarnate in order to achieve a bogus state of being and BAM! We get bagged!  Ready for moreĒ harvestingĒ back here on earthÖ. BTW, has anybody ever seen the movie ďThe IslandĒ starting Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson? That movie perfectly describes what Iím trying to say.

Iím not trying to say that this is how it is but how can I know that itís not? There is still a lot that is unknown, personally, I donít think itís a good idea to be all trusting I donít care how loving some of these beings might appear.  If I do encounter a scenario similar to this one after death, I know that Iím going to be asking a %^& load of questions and if they still insist that I must reincarnate, Iíll tellíem to go kick rocks.  Thereís no way that Iíll allow anybody to wipe my memory and thereís no way in hell that Iím coming back to this rock.

Am I paranoid for thinking this way?  shocked grin

18  Astral Projection & Out of Body Experiences / Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Re: Sleep paralysis and skin irritation on: December 12, 2011, 05:41:14
As far as I know, the pain on the posterior heel should go away almost immediately after moving it into a different position.  You might want to google posterior heel pain to be on the safe side.

Ideally, itís best not to move immediately upon waking.  For the kind of phasing that you are trying to achieve, I recommend this free ebook:

http://obe4u.com/files/SOBT.pdf

While I donít agree with some of his opinions, from a practical point-of-view, this is the best book on phasing, in my opinion.  You might want to give it a try. GL
19  Astral Projection & Out of Body Experiences / Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Re: Sleep paralysis and skin irritation on: December 11, 2011, 19:30:50
It is very common to feel pain in the back of the heels. If I remember correctly, the pain is the result of the body falling asleep and feeling an uncomfortable pressure point where the back of the bone makes contact with the surface.  Placing a soft pillow underneath your heels should solve that problem.
20  Astral Projection & Out of Body Experiences / Welcome to Astral Consciousness! / Re: Bad Marriage - Cause of astral experiences? on: November 13, 2011, 21:33:49
About five years ago I started experiencing the "rushing noises," the feeling of a presence, and even tactile sensations like pulling on the blankets. I chalked it up to some kind of nighttime hallucination, or 'waking dream.' After some research I learned that many people have this. I read that it could lead to an "out of body" experience, and within a short time I was able to get out of body and I happily began to explore. So far so good.

Then in April, it all started to dry up. I'd get a few weak vibrations, but not enough to separate. Now I haven't had the aura or the vibrations in about six months. This is very disappointing, of course. I wracked my brain trying to identify what changed, and there was only one possible answer: my husband left in April (after some very stressful years) and I've been much happier ever since.

Since this was a little bit counter-intuitive, I tried to dig deeper. Some people believe in malevolent entities, and I had to consider the possibility that I was meeting his negativity in the astral realm. I do know that he watched pornography in the next room while he thought I was asleep. He also matches many of the traits of a clinical psychopath and is a high-functioning alcoholic. Is there any chance I was picking up on his negative energy? Do you think removing the TV and devices he used had any effect? The timing seems to support that.

Please note that I'm not trying to blame him here! I welcome this window into the other world, I just want to get it back. Thank you in advance for your input.

PS I have hinted at this "dry spell" in past posts, and have already been told that it's normal. I think enough time has gone by to believe that it's not just a normal dry spell.

Unfortunately, itís going to be difficult for anyone to give you a straight answer.  I know that we all have numerous personalities or states of consciousness that are triggered depending on the environment (people) that we are in.  Perhaps when you were with your ex you felt like you wanted to be somewhere else which facilitated your ability to have obe?

Sometimes believing that negative entities are the root cause of your dry spell can cause unwanted placebo effects.  Good luck in your troubleshooting effort.

Quote
Do you think it's a coincidence that your "dry spells" began as soon as you joined this forum? For the past few years I've dedicated my life to understanding consciousness. Spending thousands of hours reseaching and practicing, hoping to understand what it's all about. Do you know what I've learned about consciousness over all of these years? Nothing. Nothing that can be measured or quantified in any real sense.

The question you have to ask yourself is why. Why do you want to astral project? To prove that it's real, that it exists, or maybe just to have fun? And then what? I would hate to see anyone continue down a path similar to mine. Obsessing over something that cant be explained. Others spend there entire lives happily living without thinking about things such as this for a second. So, do yourself a favor, quit while you're ahead.

I will have to respectfully disagree.  I think I said this before but just because you werenít successful in figuring out what consciousness is all about doesnít mean someone else canít.  Not every scientist that tries to find a cure for a disease succeeds.

I can only speak for myself, but this is the way I see it. The reality in which I exist is like a toy store.  When we first experience life, being the curious beings that we are, we start playing with the new toys; we are enthralled by them, marvel and play with them, the novelty wears off and move on to the next toys.  Some people, as they grow older, never get enough of the new toys, so they keep on playing.  Other people, like me, ďfeelĒ as if we have played through every toy in the store and no longer hold any fascination for them.  Since the external stimuli no longer holds our attention, we begin to search within.  Thatís why things such as obeís and consciousness intrigue me.

Some people have a calling to be doctors, scientists, teachers, etcÖ My calling is the exploration of consciousness.  That is what ďIĒ consider to be the true final frontier.  I understand that the path is no easy.  Itís very time consuming, and can be lonely and depressing at times, but that is a price that Iím gladly willing to pay.  It is my opinion that in order to know where I'm going, I should understand who and what I am both externally (history, science) as well as internally (consciousness).

Perhaps, although I donít think that this is the case, obeís are hallucinations.  What then?  Was all this time applied researching and experiencing them spent in vein?  What about inventors such as Nokola Tesla who was able to harness the power of the subconscious mind to build and test the feasibility of highly complex machines within his imagination?  Iíve had an experience in which I achieved a state of mind that allowed me to tap into a part of the subconscious that greatly enhanced my ability to express myself with words.  Poetry came easy for me and Iím obviously NOT a poet, and words that would never have come to me when speaking or writing came to me effortlessly, similar to the movie Limitless.  So yes, consciousness fascinates me, and I will continue experiencing and researching this phenomenon to whatever end.

Let me ask you thisódo you think that learning to have obeís and perhaps, in a mundane sense, apply this state to help you find solutions to problems, invent, enhance your creativity in music, art and so forth, be an evolutionary advantage?

I understand that this path isnít for everybody and thatís fine but please donít presume to think that you know whatís best for anybody other than yourself.  Weíre not all built to the same specifications.  We donít all need the emotional support or the approval of others to be happy.

My 2 centsÖ

21  Astral Projection & Out of Body Experiences / Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Re: marijuana in the astral!? on: November 08, 2011, 04:23:17
Do you think it has the same effect though?

Well, there was at least one difference.  The onset of the trip came on in seconds not minutes but, alas, the projection was short lived so I wasnít able to experience the whole process such as the Ďpeakí to make a good comparison--but I was definitely tippiní with the same sensations that I experienced in the physical.
22  Astral Projection & Out of Body Experiences / Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Re: marijuana in the astral!? on: November 06, 2011, 01:44:16
I did try eating a mushroom once within a projection and started to trip just like in the physical, so I would imagine that getting high on pot would also possible. What was funny though, was that the mushroom that I ate looked more like one of the 'cartoonish" spotted mushrooms (Amanita Muscaria) from Super Mario Bros, as opposed to an actual magic shroom.
