Beer, wine, liquor, or whatever strikes your fancy, most of us have had a considerable amount of experience with alcohol and know the brain numbing affects that it may have on us.  I'm going to explain my exerience, if you would like to skip it, just find the "TL;DR."

I found myself a couple of days ago with a horrid hangover and apparently a mild case of alcohol poisoning, so naturally I took an aleve and tried to sleep it off. Oddly enough, when I closed my eyes, I would almost immediately get considerably vivid visuals almost of a clairvoyant nature. I repeated this many times, even covering my eyes to make sure that there was no light teasing my eyelids, and sure enough, the visuals got more clear.

Now, I had... lost my stomach... quite a few times that morning and was quite dehydrated, which also probably played a role in my experience.

TL;DR
- Has anyone had an unexplained experience when under the influence or after being under the influence of alcohol?

Our consciousness is confined within the walls of the physical world which is a good and a bad thing. Good because it keeps us sane and bad because it stops us from expanding our awareness. Learning meditation in the proper way is like opening a door in that wall so that you can come and go between the two worlds without losing control but using too much of alcohol,  hallucinogenic drugs and improper meditation is like destroying the wall.

Interesting way to put it rezaf, is this your own personal beliefs you have put together or are you referencing this from someone else?

I drink 1 maybe 2 beers maximum a day and I don't see it help or hinder at all. Focused Will and Determination are your keys to success.
But I will say that if you were drinking enough alcohol to cause a mild case of alcohol poisoning that that in itself is not showing Maturity. That brings back the "young and foolish" memories that someday most of us will share. Been there, done that, moved on!  :-)

Mostly from my own experience but I am sure I have heard or read similar ideas elsewhere, though I can't remember where.

Hi,
As a test of your will power. Don't drink anything alcoholic apart from Christmas, birthdays and the occasional celebration.
Can you read between the lines?
There's far more where the eye can't see.
Close your eyes and open your mind.

It appears I've accidentally implied that I'm an alcoholic. This couldn't be farther from the truth. Like others, I usually only have 1 or 2 beers per day, if that, but the day in question was my brothers birthday and I'm still young and dumb at times. Alcoholism is an addiction and an iillness though and it's very offensive to connect that with maturity.

I hope nobody thinks down on me for this.

Sounds like hypnagogic imagery if anything. This is fairly common as far as visuals go and can be easily confused with forms of astral if one is unfamiliar with the stages of the phasing process.

I was thinking that as well. I wouldn't worry about it too much :-)

Alcohol can open up your small heavenly circle a little bit (ren and du meridians) which is why it can to some extent expand our awareness but its effect is nothing comparing to what one can do by learning proper meditation and the poison it brings into our bodies is really not worth it.

With myself, I find that a single alcoholic drink helps me focus... anymore than that, and it's a detriment to my practice.

I think like anything too much can be a bad thing, you have to have balance, but I think that balance is different for everyone, just depends on how your body and mind react to alcohol, during and after. Personally I love going out with my mates to party and have a drink, but I tend to drink quite a lot when I do, and am not very good at limiting my consumption, so I don't drink regularly, I guess that is best kind of balance I have been able to find so far when it comes to alcohol. But yeah like I said, my opinion it's a very personal thing, down to each individual.

Agreed. It's about balance and moderation, as well as recognizing when it's time for a change. The older I get, the more my alcohol consumption decreases. And quality beer is so much better after you haven't had any in a couple weeks.

I will say that I tend to have crazy clairvoyant visions on mornings after a night of drinking, though they're mostly jumbled nonsense and can't make much out of them. And they just come, I don't try. I purposely keep alcohol and non-physical activities separated.

Yeah that's a big point also, recognizing when it's time for change... I got to a point where I stopped going out to party every weekend, but I had recognized I needed to do that maybe a year previously, though I think I was so attached to that lifestyle and the people, I ignored the changes I felt needed to be made, despite the many negative consequences that came with it.

This has reminded me of something, I can't for the life of me remember where I heard it, but this guy was basically talking about alcohol and drugs, and saying we're all looking for 'enlightenment' in our own ways whether we know it or not, even the heroin addict sat in an alley way with the needle still in his arm, is on a spiritual mission for enlightenment.  I liked his perspective lol

Lucids

After the influence no.

But under the influence whenever I try I get the same result, I wake up and it's morning :)

I've found it's extremely difficult as you tend just to fall asleep.

Your experience does make sense though, although you wouldn't be completely and it may be easier to do I would think the sick feeling would make it too hard to relax.
