MUSIC AS NEGATIVE?!?!?!?!

Sorry, but I find that VERY hard to believe; music is an integral part of who I am.

Turn the music into energy. If it's stuck in your head, listen to something else that helps focus your meditation. I find that listening to another song quickly swaps it with the one stuck in my head at the time.

I don't think just because a song gets stuck in your head and is hard to get out that it means music or that song is negative.  Everyone gets songs stuck in their head.  It's merely you're sub-concious picking up a tune it thinks it catchy (usually for the beat) and keeps repeating it over and over.  Sure it can get annoying, especially if it is a song that you don't care for, but music in general, I BELIEVE, is a positive force.  The time I came closest to projecting (was in 3d blackness, but didn't know it at the time) I was listening to music (Pink Floyd to be exact).  If you constantly get a song stuck in your head while trying to meditate or project, try putting on your own music that you know you can relax to and concentrate on that instead.

i think you guys missed a word in there: "ingredient". he wasn't saying that music in itself is negative, but that it has a negative impact on his ability to meditate.

Hi. I have another theory. About music that can get stuck in your head. I think that when a song you haven't heard in a while suddenly pops up in your head, then you must listen to the lyrics, because of some reason you need to hear what they are singing right now. It's like an easy way for the soul( or larger self or whatever...) to get in contact with you in a fast and comprehensive way.
I agree however that music can sometimes be a disturbance, silence is rare to find these days.

Well, I would agree that music can get in the way of projecting (you wouldn't listen to black sabbath hardcore death metal punk rock while trying to project, would you?). Certain music has purposes for certain things. Another thing to regard here is that not ALL music is meant for entertainment purposes. Some of it is ritualistic or ceremonial, such as in certain African or Native American tribes or other cultures. They use music for healing rituals in some of these cultures, or when a boy/girl becomes a man/woman, etc. So maybe certain music will benefit meditation, energy raising, OBEing, etc. while others hinder it. Has anyone here ever heard of techno-shamanism? It is believed that the bass beat of some techno music can induce a trance state, and is therefore useful when projecting. I myself have tried it, and when I listen to certain types of techno music, I find that it is a beneficial aid and I come much closer to projecting than I would otherwise. It keeps my mind off of fearing that negs will attack me or whatever. Try it with Japanese Shakuhachi music. It has no time signature (and therefore no steady rhythm), which makes it very relaxing to listen to, and will most likely induce a trance state. The Asian cultures have been at this stuff for thousands of years, long before anyone in our culture introduced it or was introduced to it. See what they use for meditation and I guarantee you, you cannot go wrong.

Ender, i agree that certain musics can assist in various effort bt i peronally strive to be able to meditate anywhere, anytime.I can so far block out mild externall noises by teaching my mind that it is not impotant for me to hear them at that time

Bebelina , your theory is very interesting and probably true.Have you any personal experiences to refenence?

For me it happens all the time, since I have recognized it as a system of communication. It can reinforce what I'm already thinking or crush my false illusions.
Like when I'm having trouble in my relationship the most unlikely songs pop up in my head, to give me strenght to carry on, I suppose. Like recently, "...we can work it out, we can work it out.....wanna do it my way, wanna do it your way..." I don't even know the artist or the title of the song, just an old melody from when I was a kid.

Bebelina: Umm...I kinda hope your theory isn't true because last night all I could think of was the song In the End by Linkin Park. (Very depressing. It goes: "I tried so hard, and got so far, but in the end, it doesn't even matter...")Doesn't bode well for the future...

Bebelina

Don't worry Panabelle, sometimes a song gets stuck in your head simply because it's a catchy tune too. [;)]

I thought meditation was a state of relaxation in which the practitioner's mind is clear and is actually more alert of their surroundings. I guess there are different kinds of meditations. Either way, I say to each his own. If music helps you, that's great. If not, don't use it. Everyone is different, so there's no single right answer for everyone. We already knew that, though.

Spirit_Gurl

oh, ive heard that song. another verse- "i had to fall to lose it all but in the end it doesnt even matter"

maybe it was about something else, for example if you failed a test, it doesnt matter cuz theres another test you can pass, or if you lose a bf, it doesnt matter cuz he hated you anyway, stuff like that. i dont think it means life in general. [xx(]

Ummm...[:I]actually it was part of a DBZ music video about Gohan and that's definitely NOT the implied meaning.

It's a great song but it's so depressing and I can't get it out of my head. When ever I find myself singing it, I just change the lyrics of the chorus to "In the end, its ALL that really matters..." because I don't know the rap part anyway.[:D]

Whilst i agree that music is a fundamental part of life and i do love it, i have to say it can be a pain in the asp sometimes. While meditating, trying to project, healing, etc etc occasionally a song will just pop into my head from no-where, even if i havent been listening to music at all that day.I then have to squeeze it out of my mind which i find much more difficult than killng ordinary thoughts.Am i alone or do any of you experience the same problem?
