I love the Eurovision song contest!!
I was happy that Ukraine won, I think they were
good, and, I'm one quarter Ukranian, y'know [;)]
Personally I don't like the fact that a "bombastic" performance (like the one from ukraine) seems to be more valued than actual skill in singing. The guy from UK for example had skill, in my opinion. He seemed to be a normal guy, he didn't need a big show, just a guitar and his voice. That's something I like. I mean, it's a SONG contest after all ...
On the other side, the guys from Ukraine and Turkey. ESPECIALLY the guys from Turkey. Nothing but show and crappy singing, but a good place in the ranking.
It's a big conspiracy, I tell you!

I agree! Turkey's act was rubbish!
Just noise...
Bring back Abba!

So what did you guyz think of the swedish fox? [:I]
Actually, I think they should rename it to "Eurovision Show Festival" instead of "Eurovision Song Festival"... because indeed - it is not really the song itself that is valued, but the show around it. No big deal to me, but they shouldn't make it seem as if it's the actual -song- that has won, because it isn't,.. it's their show!

So what did you guyz think of the swedish fox?
Which one? The girl who sang or the girl who read out the points for Sweden?
;-)

Atleast Finland sent "It takes 2 to tango".
Didn't even get to the finals. Well doesn't make me wonder
because it was just pure 100% crap.
Had many other better qualifiers but what can you do
when we have 'Tangomarkkinat' here which every grandma&pa follows
enthusiastically [:D]
I still don't see how the UK entry was 'reasonably good'.
It was dire!
Now, I live in Scotland, which (unfortunatly) is part of the United Kingdom. If we were independent we could enter a song in our own names rather than having a crap entry from England being offered in our names!
But, would a Scottish entry be any better?
Probably not, but at least you would get to see men in skirts!
;-)

I'm with Mystic[/]. How come nobody ever votes for Finland?
It has to be the almost iinbred tendency to compose a song specifically for the contest. I can't for the life of me figure out why they don't ask a commercially succesfull group compose a song they'd be willing to release it as their single? The way things end up each year that wouldn't any worse.
But then again, I don't really give a thingy.

I'm sure you don't know that Estonia is one of the three Baltic countries and I'm also sure that you haven't noticed that neighbouring countries give high points to each other because they have close ties. The similarity of cultures!!!
And it is not only with the Baltics.
You don't have to even watch the thing to get that[;)]

Well, its ok Gwathren, I do know, esp. since my Grandfather was born and spent his childhood in Riga, Latvia, before being forced out by the invading communist army in 1917-19.
He went back for the first time upon independence in the early 1990s; that was some trip down memory lane!

Yeah, I guess your right about the voting, I think its just that some countries tactics are more obvious than others!

Great.
Great.
Um... ok.
Apologies for those outside of Europe who have no idea what I'm talking about!
(or those who do, but think Eurovision is rubbish... come on, its cheesey fun!)
Ukraine have just won in tonight's live Europe-wide televised final, held in Turkey (last year's winners). I don't know if you saw their act but it was certainly visually impressive, ie lots of Xena warrior princess style babes in leather dancing around ;-)
Pity about the actual song though, what a load of c**p!
Still, Well done Ukraine!
I was personaly going for Cyprus' entry, the only decent song imo and the girl singing it was very nice.
Turkey looked liked winning for a bit, which was disturbing; their group 'Athena' was truly c**p, however they did manage a close second or third I think.
As for the UK entry, I'm ashamed to say it was utterly sh*t but at least we got some votes this time. Apparantly the excuse for Britain getting Zero votes last year was a protest vote by the rest of Europe because Britain sided with America in the Iraq war... a truly dire excuse... lets face facts, nobody voted for it because it was a pile of streaming horse***t!
This year was slightly better than last year, although still pretty dire. Come on guys!
This year's lowest scorer was Norway, which came very close to getting nothing, but some nation felt sorry enough to eventially award them with 7 points!

Ok, I have bored you enough!

PS You have to watch the 'Eurovision' episode of Father Ted, it's awesome!
