I've have been playing Lord of the Rings: Return of the King for the PS2...........Now I intend to become a practicing wizard and plan to train my own orc army and I will arm them with forks and spoons. We will then march to my local city hall and turn my city into a small Uberstate which will seperate from the United States and crush all who stand in our way!

Hey now, I try to be just like Tommy in GTA so I can fit in and be cool. Everyone knows that it's the norm to steal cars and kill lots of people while getting services from hookers on the side, while blowing as much stuff up as possible. Cops don't arrest people for stuff like that. After all, I learn everything I know from video games, fictional movies, and music, and they wouldn't convey these messages if they weren't true.[]

Seriously though, I think a lot of people are just afraid to admit that our culture likes to put the blame for their actions on other things that are not really responsible for it.

People should stop blaming the little stuff like mp3 pirating (YARRGH!!!) and video games and take a look at the REAL bullsh*t.

What about pop and rap music? Most pop music videos have half naked girls dancing very erotic moves, and hip hop is even worse. It practically tells kids to go around womanising and taking drugs. Now I sound hypocritical, but I must say, music has more of a profound effect on culture.

Gamers are, for the most part, intelligent beings. We can differentiate between reality and the video game world, and there is little to no pressure to play the games that are seen "cool" by everybody else, because, in essence, when a gamer says a game is good, it usually is good. And you aren't seen as "cool" by anybody because you're good at a game, although you do demand a certain degree of respect amongst peers [8D]. The games seen cool by other people in society, however, are judged by other gamers, and we personally don't give a crap. It's all about personal tastes, and we respect that, mostly. Like when some stupid idiots like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater Underground because it has skating and skating is cool, real gamers will have a look and say that it is a crappy game which is simply recycling the same engine.

See? Hardly any effect on society whatsoever. Freedom of choice, tastes, and no overall sheep mentality are prominent in the gamer's society.

Unlike music.

There are two breeds of music likers. Those who respect freedom of choice, the Buddhists of the music world. They just choose whatever and listen, not a care in the world for what others say. But then there are the majority, the ones who listen to music because everybody says it's cool, and therefore if you listen to it you become cool. Stupid. Then, rap becomes cool. Womanising is cool. Drugs is cool. "Pimping" is cool. Bullsh*t. I'm sick of it.

I'm sure that walking past Mario in the OBE environment wouldn't be that strange. I mean, you walk past other strange things, pixies, elves, dragons, monkeys with pies for hats, walruses with tophats....all the time. In a way OBE IS losing touch with reality. Except it's still real []

Well this proves my point further. Evil Nazi parents who have the anti-video game doctrine are stupid. They could be perfectly intelligent in any other field (IQ isn't everything. Have a look for Spectrum, a new way of seeing how intelligent people are), they are total idiots when it comes to parenting and lateral thinking and research.

Intellectual games are the best way to prove to your parents that games can be fun and a learning experience.  But don't just limit yourself to them.

The games I'm talkin about are so unpopular these days.  Super Monkey Ball is a prime example.  It's one of the greatest party games out there, and one player mode puts such a tax on your brain that you wish you could throw it out the window.  I almost did.

Well, that's not all I play either.  Timesplitters 2 consumes my gaming life now with its impossibility.  And when I get angry at that I delve right into Metroid Prime.

And (to actually stick with the topic [|)]) video games in no way have a negative effect on kids who play them.  I grew up with a nintendo playing some shooting games and check me out now.  No, really, check me out.

In conclusion, I saved the world so many times that the nobel prize should be mine.  Game over.

Metroid Prime and TimeSplitters2 are fantastic, and I've played Super Monkey Ball 2. Very good games. Right now I'm going through Metroid Prime again, with the intention of getting the best ending (all 100% items). Then I'll do it again on hard mode. I love Metroid. So much replay value, so many puzzles. And it's so funny seeing newcomers to the series screw up and throw the game away.

I've played and beaten every Metroid game in existence, except for one, the latest one, which I got a few weeks ago (Zero Mission, remake of the first. Bloody brilliant).

i wrote an essay on video games it was the bigest research report ever i covered everything from myths of causing arthritis to brain washing. i got alot of info and if i had it on a site i would give a link to it, i do have part of it on the internet but is the wrong section. i beleive it or not put opinions of people about this exact same topic, "i believe that video game are not for army recruitment frankly in my own oppinion video games are a way to look at a situation in an easier funner way. videogames can be teaching people about such things. what if an evil alien force did attack the army is not saying you shall join us and destroy them, it is basically giving an out look what could happen" that was an opinion i found over the internet. i dont agree totally i just think videogames were created to be entertaining/educational
