I think if suicide was legal people would give up to easy and not even try when times got to rough. I say let death hit them, but only when their time has come and they've learned what they needed to learn, hopefully.

Hi,
Make them know whats out there. See if the figures soar.
They'll learn the art or self terminate.
There's far more where the eye can't see.
Close your eyes and open your mind.

There would most likely be a lot less suffering. Unemployment is a thing you can do something about. Chronic or Terminal illness are things you normally can't do anything about except block the pain with strong pain pills!

I think even if suicide were legal and moral , some people would chose to suffer . Some people just seam to get off moaning and b*** about such things .   For other people it might be a karma pay back thing . It is my belief that we create our reality , repressed unconscious stuff can create suffering .  If some one ends there life early they just haft to come back and do all this again .  As to the title of this thread , death is when the body dies , and the soul goes on to the after life , astral planes , and maby a new human life . desert rat

IMO, yes there would still be sickness and unemployment. I don't think legality plays a part in it, other than in assisted suicide. It's my belief that for the most part suicide is something that happens to someone, rather than a choice; through an in-balance in the scales between levels of pain, psychical or emotional, and their resources to cope with the pain, within themselves as well as their support network or lack there of. - maybe this is just a way to take away responsibility from the suicide victim for their actions?

Now if it were 'morally' acceptable; regarding morals in society, I don't think it would play much of a role in the process, or rather hinder the suicide attempt due to being 'morally' unacceptable, so being morally acceptable would not effect number of suicide.

However, moral beliefs within religion - I can imagine there are people who are alive because of their believes, who's pain, outweigh there resources to cope with the pain, but their beliefs tilt the scales, the perceived consequences of taking ones life. So if it were acceptable within religion, I think people in that situation would lose that extra resource that makes suicide not an option, that gives them balance between pain and coping resources.

Though the instinct to survive is pretty damn strong.

Again all just my opinion and always open to having it changed, welcome it even.  :-)

First, suicide isn't "illegal".  It's just kind of frowned upon in our society.
Secondly, most people who are sick or unemployed don't turn to suicide.  Whether that's for one reason or another, I dunno... I was unemployed recently, and all I wanted to do was find a new job, not end my life.

I think what you mean to ask is, "If suicide was socially accepted as a "normal" choice one could make..."

If our society was to come to "KNOW" (not just believe) about life after death, then I think a lot of things on this planet would change... and they would change for the better.

On suicide , hear in Phoenix there was this guy that escaped from his burning house with scuba gear . He was convicted of arson and  got a long  a prison term .They said he did it for the insurance money .      There is court room video of him palming some thing and dieing right after . If asked I can find and post links .  desert rat

I think a few people see it as an only option .  Like the guy that took some kind of posion instead of going to jail .  If he went to jail he could have appealed or maby got out in 5 years .    http://www.myfoxphoenix.com/story/18917243/2012/06/29/man-dies-after-being-convicted-in-ariz-arson-case       http://www.myfoxphoenix.com/story/18917243/2012/06/29/man-dies-after-being-convicted-in-ariz-arson-case            If some one is sick and there is little chanch of getting better , then I can see  killing ones self .  I knew this lady that had Lou Garigh disese , she hopped in a pool and drowned her self .  desert rat

I believe judge Roy Bean made a law making it illeagal to shoot your self . I think that was more to get money from dead people to cover the funral costs .  If one tries to commit suicide he/she is checked out by doctors , not charged with a crime .  I think it is more a Christain idea of burning in hell .  NoY that could be the law where you live , but not hear in the USA where I life .  desert rat
