Thought this info was pretty important as some people may be wasting their time. This is an extract from a discussion on linkedin:

"Has anyone had success in experiencing the same degree of meditation when you convert the hemisync CD's to an Ipod?"

Chiel Varkevisser 1 month ago • "The Monroe Institute recommends, when converting the CDs to MP3 format to use at least 196 Kbps bitrate for them to work."

I guess this only really applies to people who have downloaded hemi-sync under somewhat shady circumstances (and i'm guessing this accounts for a lot of people). If so chances are it aint working properly for you as a lot of downloadable hemi-sync out there is at only 128kpbs. Occasionally some is at 320 kpbs but not much.

In a way it's a good advert for not downloading illegally as you may have been wasting your time with it but never even realized.

blis

Just checked. All my hemi-sync mp3's are at 128kbps. They work very well.

I've wondered how exact the tones need to be to work. Cause they used to all be on cassette tape right? And tapes play back at a slightly different speed on every player which means the pitch is always different.

Just to test Chiel's theory I might download some flac versions and see if the efect is any stronger.

floriferous

Yeah but the thing is it isn't Chiels theory. It's what TMI have told him.

Now I look back I have noticed I get better results with hemi-sync I have bought

Most of my Hemi-sync MP3s are 128k... they work fine for me too.
I guess my experience prove his statement completely incorrect.  :)

But it's wrong.  And the other point is that... I'm really starting to not trust TMI much these days.
They'll do or say ANYTHING to keep people buying their products, even going as far as telling you that those Hemi-sync products of theirs that you just downloaded for free won't work.

They know how the power of suggestion works... they know FULL WELL how it works.

Yeah sorry TMI, not buying it for a second.  I'm living proof that they work just fine and as described.  :)

Yeah but Ryan the mp3's you are presumably referring to are 128 because someone has transferred them from cd using that incorrect setting. Just because they are mostly 128 doesnt make it correct. It probably means that they never bothered to alter the default setting in their music converter software.

With regard to the effects of hemi-sync at 128, I agree that maybe it will work but to what extent is really what is being questioned here. You say you are living proof but you may be further along the line if you did have hemi-sync at the required bitrate

Well if they do have an agenda it aint to get you to keep buying their products - its to buy the original cd once rather than download it from some dodgy torrent site.

I think they may be worried that no one is buying their products in the first place because they are so easily downloadable. If they have an agenda, and if that is it then I think it's pretty reasonable of them

Orion-

I might be wrong but aren't their hemi sync products on their website ridiculously expensive?
Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

They are.  Hundreds of dollars.  Which is why people pirate the hell out of them.

I had a legit version that my boss let me borrow (which I promptly ripped), but I also have a pirated copy (because I got a new laptop and didn't feel like booting up the old one to transfer the tracks) and I've never had any problems.

They both always worked fine.
be awesome.

Stookie_

I bought wave 1 several years ago for $99 and ripped them to 320 (you can get a legit download for $75 now). Really, I would guess for binaurals that you want highest bitrate possible for the best result, because the binaural beat itself is fairly quiet in the background and that's the kind of stuff that compression degrades and removes.

blis

I dont understand why they charge so much for them. I think they'd probably make more money from all the extra sales if they charged a normal amount. If you could get wave 1 for fifteen quid I'd buy them as gifts for loads of people.

Yeah but I think they go on the assumption that a normal cd for 15 quid doesnt present you with the potential to change your life in unimaginable ways so feel they can charge more for such an opportunity...Seems fair enough to me.

That's my main beef with TMI.
If this is such LIFE CHANGING stuff... shouldn't they be disseminating it for, perhaps, the cost of the materials?  If this is truly that life changing, wouldn't you want *EVERYONE* to be able to do it?  Not selling it for a *MASSIVE PROFIT*.

I've always agreed with Franks position that TMI is a tad too "commercial".

But when it comes down to it they are a business out to make money.

They're meant to be a non-profit organisation.

Non-profit organisations can still make money. I'm guessing they started out as non-profit and just kept that title

Wave I is 3 discs, so if you compare that to regular CD's, that's 45 bucks. On top of that, you have the development, testing, and study of the hemi-sync itself, which I'm sure cost a lot, and it comes with good literature that is very helpful with tips and explanations for each track, which a lot of people don't even know about because they didn't pay for them.

In other words, your not just paying for CD's, you're paying for a good quality program. If it's too expensive then you don't need it.

I really disagree with the poor being priced out of life changing spiritual programmes and workshops. I'm not just speaking about TMI.

Stookie_

Nobody needs those things to progress. The person who learns to do it on their own will probably go a lot further in the long run anyways. You don't have to spend a dime on AP, it's already in you. The people that read book after book and buy all the binaurals eventually get to a place where they realize they have to try harder and get more serious about their practice, because all the physical materials in the world won't do that for you.

BUT!!

... for only 8 easy payments of $39.95 each... YOU TOO CAN TRAVEL ALL OVER THE KNOWN AND UNKNOWN UNIVERSE!!  :D

I was just perusing the TMI Store... and the first CD of the Gateway series is on sale right now for $79.20 down from $99.  :)

I felt the same with Lucidology. Way way way too commercial. Also very americanised commercialism which us british hate.
Rather glad I didnt buy the hemisync stuff from TMI.  Hemisync does nothing for me. Any phase experiences I've had have been without it.

They've probably read this thread.

But it's not 1 CD, it's a 3 CD program plus literature. It's the best guided OBE program out there. No, you don't need it, but if someone wants to try a program like this, I would recommend this before anything else.

I scoff at the point that people think TMI is too commercial. In there 40 or so years they have been around they have never advertised. Not once. It's all been word of mouth.

To me that says a lot not just about if they are commercial but how effective their product is to still be going after this long without advertising.

In addition, the amount of people that have been inspired to write a book about their TMI experience also says a lot. These are people who ordinarily dont write books who are suddenly compelled to share their incredible experiences that TMI have provided them with.

Says it all for me.
