Sup people.. Im havin trouble falling into trance.. I lose my concentration very quickly and have a very wandering mind.. Ive tryed a lot of techniques none with suffisant success. I seem just to stay there tryin to wiggle my thoughts away every 30 secs or so.. Does anyone know of any way to over come this? maybe some advice or some techniques or something..

I dont fall asleep easy. And i read you have to reach focus 10 which is just like being asleeping but having your mind awake.. Do any of you look at it that way?

The best way to go about it is not fight it.  Focus on the moment, and if your mind wanders into your daily/past activities then simply recognize where you are at and "drop" the thought and come back the present moment.  If the same wandering thoughts come back, it is sometimes good to just stop and meditate upon those thoughts and try to resolve the conflict for the time being.  In time you will notice that there is a sort of "slope" that your mind goes down during the falling asleep process.  In my experience the goal is to stay edged into this slope with out dropping off or losing your mental footing.  I would imagine that this slope represents the depth of your trance.  This is where I begin to notice brief dreaming moments that sort of pop-up randomly while still conscious.  With some practice these brief dreaming segments will become longer sustained and you will have a degree of ever increasing control.  Anyway, hope this helps :)

When you completely empty the mind, you will not have the notion of time anymore... It's literally like skipping time, and therefore the only way to know for sure that you've done it is to look at a clock!

But anyway... Emptying the mind is of very little use for OBEs... In fact, we were not built to be idle like this... What you want to do is focus on one single thing for a long time. Some people focus on their breath or heartbeat, some count in their head... The trick is to stay focused on this one thing until it's the only thing that exists "in your world." Eventually, you'll let go of it and you'll be in trance, in "the void" ; a bit as if nothing at all existed... That is what trance meditation is.

But inducing an OBE does not truly require you to do this... What I do personally is I create a dream scenario, and pretend that I'm in another world. I concentrate on this scenario for as long as possible, and try to imagine it in real time. Just make up a story and imagine it unfolding... As you do this, the images will get stronger and stronger.

Don't be afraid to create complex things to focus on... If you try to concentrate on something that is repetitive and simple, most of the time you'll end up getting bored, or you'll focus out of it too fast and lose consciousness... This is one of the primary flaws in exit methods such as the rope technique or the various visualizations that involve a swaying or rotating motion... The more complex the scenario, the more room you'll give your mind to exert its creativity, it'll feel much more natural, and results will come faster.

At the beginning, I recommend setting alarms. If you fall asleep while thinking of a scenario, you'll almost invariably continue that scenario in your dream... But if you sleep for 8 hours right after that, you'll have many more dreams throughout, and the chances that you'll lose the dream or projection that resulted from your visualization are great. It is also useful to have a well rested mind when you attempt this, so ultimately an excellent time to try it -- and any projection method -- is a couple hours before the time you would normally wake up, after you've had at least 4 hours of sleep and still feel tired enough to go back for at least another two hours.

Good luck!

Something else worth trying is the "noticing technique". Stare into the blackness behind your eyelids. Make small observations about what you see - blackness, faint haze, specs of light, swirls, colors, etc. When you drift and start thinking of something else, come back to noticing. I've found good success with this method.

Hi,
a couple of things can be helpful here. One is to no longer view it as a problem, instead just accept that it's natural for the mind to wander until we learn how to focus. Secondly, there really is no need to train the mind into submission as so often seems to be people's beliefs. What works for me is to bring your focus back to what you want to do. Hold your intent clearly in your mind and gently bring the awareness to what you are doing. You may find you need to do this every 20 or so seconds until you can hold the focus, but that is very normal too. After about 30 days or so of practice, your mind will follow the new behaviour of focussing with your intent.

Love Always
Tay
