Do you think there is more chance of astral projecting when it is combined sleep deprivation?
Most likely, I would think so. Your body wants to sleep, and your mind is ready to leave, but you aren't letting it. So when you finally do, it would probably be easier.

So some say. But I find that projecting is easier after at least one or two sleep sessions.
My most oft times are between 3am - 6am, when I wake up after having a good few hours kip, and find I'm quite awake, although my body is very relaxed.
And I can genuinely say that if I force myself back to sleep, even when I'm no longer tired, tends to generate an experience of some sort.
Some say that being ill is beneficial - I have a sneaky feeling that is to do with not being able to sleep (being feverish), but the body needing rest (due to being ill), and the mind being awake (due to being feverish). Which strikes me as the same as the above circumstances of being awake in the early hours of the morning.
I may be barking up the wrong tree here, but didn't the native americans take peyote (or other such drugs) to keep them awake - and lo and behold had some rather strange experiences to speak of. I also believe that lack of sleep (certainly three days in a row) would make one slightly delusional anyway, and prone to hallucinations. The body needs sleep (imo) and reacts badly when denied it. Mine does anyway! :-D

Okay, I have been awake for 9 hours now. I am going to stay awake until tuesday night to see if I get some results.
I have some prescribed sleeping pills too, so i'll take a couple of them when I am really exhausted to see if they can help.
when i stay awake for a long time i just get a weird and painful headache and eventually just pass out lol.
Hope that doesn't happen to me :-D
Also because i'll be so tired when i'm meditating i'll be able to achieve a trance much better, while playing Boxed Nirvana II. My mind should be able to go way deep when I am mentally tired.
Also, when I eventually go to bed, hypnogogic imagery will come easier, and i'll know it when I see it.

I would NOT recommend pills because they may cause you to "pass out" too fast - causing you will get to the "sleep" mode too fast.
I have suffered insomnia my whole life and I have had many, many OBEs that way.

As someone who suffers from sleep apnea I would recommend not depriving yourself of sleep to try and project. You won't do it and I know that because I am having to tell you.
I don't think this is a very good idea but it's your choice. If you continue to do this you are going to disrupt more than just your sleep patterns. You won't have more experiences either, infact just the opposite..IMO. :)
