Today, I was reading all about astral and stuff and i decided I'll give it a go for a 2nd time. The first time i think i just lost my patience and decided to wake up and go do something else. Today, though, I really felt determined to have a OBE so I went upstairs in my room and got comfortable and set the mood. Then I started to rest and I really felt like my body was shutting down. What I did to know this is I put my hand on my other hand then after a while I couldn't feel that my hand was even touching it, is that when your body shuts down or falls asleep? Anyways what happened was that I pretty much just woke up, and I know nothing happened to me and I think I fell asleep. Also, when I woke up I felt very tired and sluggish, it felt a little weird because this usually doesn't happen to me. Is this a sort of sign that I was doing something right or wrong or maybe just me getting my hopes up too high?
Thanks in advance.

well first of all its only your second attempt...... some people have been trying for years without success.  For me it took 3 weeks practicing twice a day which is pretty fast.

The experience you described is simply a symptom of getting into a deep trance and coming out of it quickly.  Its akin to sleeping for 5 minutes.  You didnt get anywhere near a full sleep cycle and your body was simply trying to wake up from the trance and was slow to do so.

Keep trying.

Hi Will

In my opinion, you are going about it in the right way by learning to relax, but from what you are saying it sounds like you need to learn to relax a whole lot further.

When you reach mind awake, body asleep (MABA), you will have no doubt whatsoever that you are "there".  It is an amazing feeling.  You feel like you are your mind only and that you are housed in your physical body.  Sometimes you may sway a little, as if you are made of liquid and then you realise that although you are still in your physical body, you are no longer trapped in it, and you will be able to leave it.

Not being able to feel your hand on your other hand is a level of relaxation, but it is (to me) one of the sensations early on in relaxing.  I can get that sensation just sat down watching television.

Strangely enough, learning to relax is hard work!  I don't mean you need to strain at relaxing - far from it - but what I do mean is it takes a long time and a lot of effort to get to the point where you can leave your body - without falling asleep.

Falling asleep is natural and normal, even now I more often than not fall asleep.  However, sleep is very good for us and is therefore quite a nice side effect!  :-)

The best time to practice relaxation is when you have naturally woken up, either first thing in the morning (if you don't have to get up for work/school) or in the middle of the night.  It tends to work if you've already had some amount of sleep.  Your body is already relaxed and snuggly and in that lazy state, and if you can keep your mind awake, you'll get success.

The one thing that concerns me about your post is that you "lost patience" the first time.  For this game, there's one thing you need shedloads of... and that's patience.

Hi,
Thank you so much for the replies. Yes I know it was my first time in trying it and by the second time I knew that it would take alot more then just 15 minutes to get in a trance. I also now now thanks to you guys that it will take me alot of practice but I'm very O.K with that I'm gonna keep on trying until I get results, I dont care how long it takes. Another thing I had in mind was that well I was reading this book and it mentionned your chakras and the balance of them and how you sometimes close them or damage them. Does this have to do with anything with OBE or is chakras just some bogus someone decided to put in the book, although I do beleive the existance of chakras in my opinion, but a second opinion on this is always good, I am 14 and do not know much about OBE.
Thanks
Will

well i can say from experience that there do seem to be energy centers in the body you can stimulate that correspond with the chakras listed in all books about such subject matter.  Its really up to you to decide.  I believe that the energy body and the nervous system are almost one in the same.  Research the nervous system of the human body as well as the energy body and the chakras.  Come to your own conclusion.
