Hey everybody, I love the community you all have going here and was hoping you all could help me out. About three months ago I broke my arm. Due to this I was cooped up in my room for a week straight. I was on a high dosage of oxycodone and smoking a lot of cannabis(dont hate). Due to the pain killers I was realy out of it and couldnt concentrate on anything, my mind was literally blank basically 24/7.
At one point I had a verry odd experience which has led me on to find this resource and pursue astral projection. I was sitting up in bed starring at the wall across from my bed at a single point for a while. As ususal blackness crept into my vision from the sides. Out of curiosity I continued to stare and see where it went. Well slowly my whole vision turned to blackness and I began to see blurs of color and such until it started to form some actualy shapes. First I saw a square and from there it developed into the windshield of a car which I was driving down the highway! I was going very fast and everything around me was a blur. This went on for a minute or two and I realized I wasn't really in control because then I just drove off the side of the road. I felt the impact but no pain and then I stared around the ditch I was in and then everything I saw slowly faded back into colors and such and then my vision came back to normal and I was still just staring at the wall.
This experience kind of had me shaken up a little because it seemed completely real at the time, it was like no dream I had ever had. So im wondering was this anything besides a dream?
Actually, yes.
That's what we call "Phasing".
The only problem is that after you phased, you didn't have much control, if any at all.
So it turned from a Phasing Projection into a common dream.
But yeah, what you experienced is the general idea. :)
Thanks again Xanth, so would it be wise to try using the same method and see if I get more results. I tried it the other night with some success but nothing like before, Im guesing the difference is being totaly sober so it will probably take more concentration. I noticed that it has to be almost completely dark for this to work but do you think meditaitng in the light with eyes open would be good practice?
All of the "criteria" you're talking about are completely subjective and up to the individual. :)
Light or dark... you'll need to find what works best for you.
As for methodology... try this post of mine:

I outline the "entering the daydream" Phasing method, which, as per your description, is what you did.
And I post a bunch of supporting posts by Frank who perfected/taught the method.
See how that works for ya. :)
