Feeling another presence

I bring this up because while it hasn't happened in a while (It's probably only happened about 5 times total), it was pretty crazy and I haven't been able to come up with an explanation.

There have been times within dreams where it will be perfectly normal then suddenly change. There would be the strong uncomfortable feeling of another presence right behind my head.

Here is an example. I was dreaming having a grand all time. For some reason everyone was singing and dancing musical theater style. Not my usual kind of dream, but hey, I was having a blast. Suddenly, the whole cast stopped mid-note and all stared at me. They all started emitting a high pitched unnatural sound and it felt like my soul was being ripped out of my head. Having sudden complete lucidity, I paid close attention to the sensation. It almost felt like tendrils were brushing against me. My first thought was a ghost or witch. It was a crazy vibration feeling and literally right out of the back of my head. I forced myself to wake up.

Another time it happened, the dream was normal (though no catchy tune). I was in an old house. Someone mentioned a ghost and when I looked at a photograph the people in them started morphing into grotesque creatures. Once again, out of no where, it hit me on the back of the head again. Same vibrations and that crazy sound I can't quite describe. I forced myself awake and I thought I saw an arm coming at me to grab me in my room. Deep down, I knew I was safe, but it was still scary as excrement because I felt like I was in sleep paralysis. A few moments later I realized that it was my own arm that I had raised in front of myself. I hadn't felt it and until the paralysis really wore off, I didn't really have control of it. No no, I was not trying to choke myself, it was just like it was asleep or made out of a marshmallow.

I'm really not prone to such dreams or ideas of witches and ghosts. Quite honestly, I believe myself to be very safe and protected. My theory is that I might be feeling myself. Such as part in/part out of my body. Something triggers and it causes that sensation and the fear arises from the awareness of sleep paralysis. The noise could be related to that noise you sometimes feel when trying to remain awake while falling asleep. That would also explain the vibrations and placement of the sensation to be on the back of my head.

I am incredibly curious if others have experienced something similar and other interpretations of such an event.

It sounds like you are creating your own fear based scenarios. You feel there is something behnd you, well thought=action in the Non Physical. You think it could be a witch, ghost or a grotesque creature and that's what it turns out to be. Next time, try thinking it's a tree branch or a flower brushing up against you and you will change the results.
This is exactly what makes awaking in SP such a frightening experience for most people. They awaken, see they are paralyzed and now their fear is at a heightened state. They think that Demons or some other unearthly force is holding them down and their thought=action kicks in and that's what they create. That's been happening since the dawn of man though, it's nothing new and different cultures have different ways and names for what is attacking or happening to them.

I think it would make more sense if there was a monster behind me... I know there isn't and I understand that ultimately I am safe. But it's not the feeling of fear that is confusing. It's the sensation of crazy vibrations along with the weird noise and feeling wispy things around me, always focused smack dab on the back of my head. No forewarning either.

I am familiar with SP sometimes being called that old hag thing. I mention it because it makes it seem similar. It's funny when your mind is telling you something rational, but you still can't help but react in another way.

I suppose I could be creating the fear, but seeing flowers and bunnies or not, that sensation would feel strange regardless.

I really don't think these were attacks of any kind. Rereading my post, I didn't make that clear. I'm just curious about the crazy feeling on the back of my head/sounds and if anyone has had something similar to that description.

I've been afraid by dreams before. This was enough to make my heart beat pick up, but it was mostly confusion and curiosity. And like I mentioned, I believe it all to be myself. Sorry, I'm no good at typing sometimes.
