Well I see energy in the form of sound when I meditate -- any sudden sound appears before my closed eyes as a pattern of energy, similar to how patterns of sand form on a drum.... It is most interesting side-effect!

I'm not sure if I'm hearing energy, but I have a constant ringing in my ears (I think that's actually tenitis (sp?), I used to be in a band.)  But when I do my energy work/meditation/etc., the ringing in my ears becomes louder and much more distinct.  So I wonder if maybe we're just tuning into sounds of our body, as we become more aware of things?  Maybe the wooshing could be a bodily process like blood flow that we just aren't aware of normally?

Just a thought.

Tinnitus. Yep I have that.
I've noticed that when my surface mind becomes calm the sound radically changes its quality as well as pitch. Often it's a sinus wave type of sound and it can under favourable conditions be transposed by as much as an octave at least. Sometimes it event goes away completely.
Tinnitus is caused by damage to the receptor hairs (is this what they are called?) in the ear. The damaged hairs flood the auditory nerve with noise that is interpreted as a sound.
But I think that during a mediational state the false signal can be handled more appropriately and used as an indicator of our mental state.

hello to the people :D

when i have been in meditation for about 5 minuites i can start to hear an extremely quiet whispy sound of flowing energy,  (so quiet that thoughts block it out)  i know its energy because i can change the pitch of it at will and the more energy i raise the more intense it becomes.

i also concentrate on this now instead of breath awarness to meditate.

try listening to the sound within if you dont know what im talking about, but the room and your mind must be in complete silence.
