I am wondering if your are solely interested in physical trama in childhood or are you also interested in "other" happenings that may have been a trigger?   Things that are not fully explainable but have left an eperience burned onto the mind, that being things unrelated to abuse, alcoholism,  neglect, and so on?

yes, anything that was 'burned in' to the child's consciousness.

Well, everything I am today revolves around one particular instance.  A dream I had when I was about 8.  I know now that it was more than a dream but the cause is still somewhat unknown to me, and I still tend to lable it as such because I have called it such for so long without knowing what it was.

I woke up in the middle of the night, I did not know what time it was or anything.  I was somewhat startled awake.  I vaguely remember a voice that I believe was a friend of mine at the time call my name.  But when I opened my eyes it was not my friend that I saw.  Rather it was a face of some kind of monster or something, I truely know not what it was, but it was there none the less.  The image was terrifying to me.  The eyes piercing as if looking straight through me, but I recall the teeth the most.  It seemed as if it was mostly teeth.  They were so friggin huge.  They were wet from saliva, like it was hungry.  I do not know why, maybe from sheer terror, or instincts, but I swung at it.   I recall hitting it just below the upper lip, catching mostly teeth with the blow.  It vanished right afterwards and I passed out.
I know a lot of people talk about negs and demons being all in your head, that they can not hurt you.  I only say that they have not had a true encounter.  I still bare a "physical" scare on my right hand between the forth and fifth knuckle.  It is about 1/4 inch long.  Its funny every time I talk about this I catch myself rubbing that spot.  A reminder of that night.
The next day I was talking to my friend John.  I never did tell him about my "dream" but he told of one he had that very same night.  He also awoke in the middle of the night.  He say he heard some thing in the living room.  Which from his door was a straight shot down the hall.  He opened the door and looked down the hall and could see something floating there.  It noticed him and begain to move towards him.  He picked up the cross that hung next to his door, it was the old wooden type, no figure on it, but it was a sign of his faith.  As the thing moved towards him he held the cross out in front of him and stepped towards it.  But before it got to him it vanished.  He said at the time the only thing he could think about was me.  He had wished I was thier to help him.  We were like brothers, blood.  I knew his mind better than he did, and it was so in reverse.
After that I begain to think more heavily on what happened that night.  I was curious as to what happened and more importantly "WHY?".   Was it our combined strength that subdued it?  Or did it jump from one to the other?  Then who did it start with?  I think it started with him and jumped to me because of the bond we shared.  Possible.  But I do know this, that singular moment changed me.   I wanted to know.  I no longer accepted what I had been taught about the church and God to that point.  Even my child mind at the time was able to know that there were certain things that they could not explain or would not explain.   So I locked it away for several years, I told no one about it for a long time.  I actually only just told my mother and aunt over the last year about that and the many more things that would follow since then.
At that point in time I knew, I mean I consously(sp?) knew that there was a hell of a lot more going on than people were aware of.  It was all right there in front of them, but  they could not see.   I tried to ignore things at first but it seemed like every time I turned around I was seeing things.  Some times in the house.  By the time I was 10 I figured out how to protect my room and then the house so at least I would have one safe place, a place where things are "mostly" normal.

Well that is it in a nut shell.  Sorry if I dragged it out some.  But that was my spring board.  The was some activity prior, but that was what I recall being the truning point.

thanks for sharing that importnat experience, it reminds me of some of the 'nightmares' I had as a kid. Reality sure is what we perceive it to be.

As for the scar on your knuckle, once when I was on the astral plane I tried to walk through a wall, I couldn't be bothered to open the door. But because I was in the astral plane, where things are solid, not like OOB on earth plane where you are like a ghost, I hit the wall and woke up with a sore nose and lips. No scars but your experioence could have happend on the astral and manifested in the physical.

Possible? yes.  But I believe that I was still in my actual room.  This is only because nothing had changed in my enviroment, with the exception of the presence.  I can remember very clearly that the room was the same as it always was.  The only major variance was in the lighting of the room which seemed to be caused by that thing.  The light was coming from it, it was a red hint of color and being generated from behind the entity.  But the outer skirts of the room were dark as usual and the night light that was always on was still on and of normal color.

I just answered Ides315 thread on child development when I thought of this topic.

There is some research that suggests a link between people who have experienced trauma in their lives, especially childhood trauma, and have well developed psychic abilities.

PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is akin to 'shell shock' - when someone experiences a trauma, for example a child watching dad threaten mum with the shot gun, or being violently attacked. It could be a one off or it could be years of abuse. Having an alcoholic parent or a parent with a mental illness is a comon cause.

This produces some very devestating and long lasting symtpoms - confusion when confronted with stressful situations, anxiety and panic attacks, depression for no apparent reason, flash backs (images or sounds from the trauma), sleep disturbances and an inability to handle low levels of stress of any form. It also screws up relationships.

The symptom I am interested in is that many sufferers also have a well developed ability to enter trance and visualise. They go under easily (I am also a registered clinical hypnotherapist and psychologist) and can do all sorts of amazing things while in trance. They also have interesting psychic experiences. These people, more than other sections of the population, are natural psychics.

What I am seeking is if you too have had a traumatic childhood, and if so do you also have well developed psychic abilities? Thanks.
