Why the 
I think it might be actually a positive thing, it shows they're learning more about our DNA, I think.
Hopefully in the future they'll find a way to reactivate all 12 strands, or at least assist us in reactivating them.

Although there's always two sides to the coin, we should always stay on the positive side.

This is actually a pretty simple thing to do- mitochondria are like little self-contained packages that you can lift out of a cell and insert into another fairly easily.

But I doubt this is the first time humans have been born with genetic modifcations... there is alot that large medical corporations is doing quietly behind closed doors... I am sure some of it may border on the grotesque.
