Could it be the persons own beliefs that stop them from going further. I mean if you tried to go to area 51 in real life, you'd expect to be stopped by security at some point. So it goes in the astral that you believe something else would stop you there.

As for them having machines to stop astral security breaches i couldn't say but if they did have that kind of mental armour/weapons then who's to say what they could be doing to us without us knowing. 

Maybe it's the government that's stopping me from successfully projecting and not my technique
