"what happened?"  
Some people will say, in a hypnogogic state you will hallucinate these types of things.  Others will say you were relaxed enough to see another being near you.  And still others will say what they think the thing was.  

You know inside what it was you experienced, and you only need to let yourself remember the feeling you get when you think about what may have happened.  

Lots of things exist around us and for most of us we would hardly ever get a glimpse of it.  You on the other hand have had a glimpse in your real world, a fairly rare phenomena.  

The thing you saw may be one of the 'carers' from other races that are sometimes around their human subject,  it may be a guide's first show to you.. but I don't feel like that is the case.  You may have seen something from your mind's memory, but that doesn't feel right either.

Really, what it comes down to is this...  only you know what it means to you,  what you saw and why you saw it.  So it must be up to you to find the answer inside you.

Seriously, the last time I saw somehting fitting that description (black outline) it was a person I knew who was out of their body, and who wanted to see me very badly because of some traumatic issues we were having. They had no memory of it, of course.

I know on coasttocoast am they talk about this alot they call them shadow people. There were actually alot of callers that called in on this describing the same thing...never seen one myself that i remember.

I see shadow people, but only when I'm awake. I did even as a hard-nosed skeptic, and at that time I explained seeing them as hallucinations my brain made up for the holes in my vision.

If I were in your shoes, I'd probably say, "Hm, that was interesting" and leave it at that until I had further experience. Quite a few people do see people in their rooms, though.

I find shadowy things to be unnerving. I think I would've freaked if I witnessed it trying to touch me. The one I saw years ago scared the hell out of me. To any spirits out there... choose a nice happy color and glow like you're friendly!

okay now i have to ask this last night i was laying down not falling asleep and then out of the corner of my eye i saw a showdowy figure that was very tall and kinda like a human shape but much differnt well any ways he walked though my closet door and stood there he was like a bunsh of black fuzzys giving a faint siloiut (excuse my spelling) of him and i knew it wasnt a physical being and anyways i dodnt look directly at him for fear he might dissapear form view so i relaxed vision perfectly clear then he came over put his handlike thing over my eyes like he was shutting them then everything started to grow black and fuzy and fade out. what happened?
