Your awereness was probably not strong.  It happens sometimes to me where I know I am dreaming or that I have a phasing but feels like I'm drunk or something, sometimes I have said clarity and things get better and I get better awereness, just keep practicing and things will get better.

That's a contradiction for me. Lucid dreaming is about knowing (being sure, as you say) that one is dreaming (or better: conscious in non-physical matter reality, if you ask me). Do you rather mean that you weren't able to do sth or influence the dream as you wanted? This can happen, sometimes you are (being?) blocked from influencing events or manifesting in the non-physical. Even flying up is sometimes almost impossible (at least for me).
Maybe it is best to also keep in mind that non-lucid to lucid is not done in concrete steps (up and down) but that there is rather a continuum of lucidity (a gradual slope, so to speak) within which you can move along. I experience many cases of "semi-"lucidity. Some cases I came to call 'agenda / purpose focussed lucidity'. It is when you pursue a target that is important for you in physical "waking" life and you act according to it - still you do not realise that you are dreaming. There are also a lot of other different 'semi-lucid' types, of course.
