Title: Questions about the "Transitional state" and other musings....
Post by: Aravoth on February 16, 2010, 12:41:12
A few months back I put up an introductory post describing an experience I had while sitting in my comfy chair. It can be read  here.  (http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/welcome_to_out_of_body_experiences/the_storm-t30400.0.html) Since that time I have extensively researched this topic, and my library is quickly becoming dominated by esoteric works. I have read much of Robert Bruce's works and actually own all of his printed material. The Revised Edition of Astral Dynamics and Energy work are great. I have been using binural beats and meditating almost daily.

Back in November I felt vibrations. Massive vibrations. They were so intense that I thought I was in the middle of an earthquake. But since that time, I have never experienced them again. It's almost as if the sensation of "vibration" has been replaced with a "rotation" or "spinning". It's sort of hard to explain, but it's like there is a "pivot point" directly on my xyphoid process (bottom of the sternum), and it feels like my entire body is rotating in 1080 degrees around this point. At first it made me dizzy. Now I can allow this feeling to occur usually after about 5-10 minutes of meditating, I can even decrease or increase it's intensity.

The question I have is, Is this "rotation" the transitional state? I have read that there are various sensations associated with it, and that not everyone experiences the vibrations in the transitional state. I have tried to "exit" multiple times during this, and every time I try, the intensity of the sensations increases dramatically, but then I get way too excited and as a result, almost as quickly as the rotation came, it goes away..

Which brings me to my second question, any idea how to be objective during this stage? It seems to me that I either get way too excited or way too scared, or a mixture of both. I feel like those emotions turn my attention back to my body and as a result, the experience ends. Perhaps this is an issue with exit technique?

I haven't done energy work or meditation every day until maybe the last month. Any suggestions?

Can we call it 'transitional' state instead of 'vibrational' state?  Humor me please?
The perception of vibration is what happens when the perceptual apparatus (point of view, energy body, whatever you want to call it) perceives a difference in the frequency of one environment (the physical) as it moves into another (the nonphysical).  When these movements become less traumatic or more fluid, the perception is not always of 'vibration', it can be of 'moving', 'strobing' or just plain 'floatiness'.  It is possible that the difference in these sensations are due to the change on your own vibratory rate- if you're buzzing at a high rate you don't feel vibes, they may feel like you're riding a surf (not much difference from your own energy body to it's environment) while the buzzing indicates a bigger difference, giving you the clue that you need to entrain more to the frequency...
Now the sensation of 'turning' or 'rolling' may be another version of this- you may even be more 'entrained' or may be perceiving a phase shift (which is why Robert Monroe spoke in terms of phase difference) and measured it in those terms.
So in short, yes, I think it's another way to do the same thing.

Done.

So you think that this may be just a different aspect of the transitional state?

What are some things you did when you were first learning to overcome the excitement or fear of the sensations of the transitional state? Like I said, I think I get all too excited about it, and wind up tensing muscles and loosing the trance completely.

I kept trying, and one time, when things got really weird, I decided to tug on that rope and not stop.  Luckily, when the (very loud) *Pop* happened, I was already out of body, and my startled reaction didn't bring me back.  I still remember that one, though.

ps. When you feel the 'movement' follow it with your attention, as if you were physically trying to rotate on purpose, and see what happens.
The truth is that there is no way not to react emotionally- the good news is that you will get used to it and react less intensely every time, and at some point you will just go for it.

Good Advice, I will do that. I haven't been able to do much in the line of meditation in the last few days. I will post again with results.

Dear folks,

I believe many exit sensations are due to being still too attached to the body in some place and loose in another, so it'd be like pulling a rope from both sides, causing disturbances.

I woke up unattached this morning after some hours of sleep and so catapulted out of my forehead like butter, no vibrations or sensations except some ear rushing but that was it.

good luck
