Yeahm I agree with FredHedd. And speak from some point of authority.
I used to work at th eregional hospital and consulted withthe neurophys and sleep unit.

Your friend should visit the sleep clinic for sleep apnea related symtoms. This has nothing to do with meditation, OOBE or such but is a physiological condition that can be iinmany cases remidied.

one thing is to think or dream you cant breath, the other is you're actually not breathing. According to the discription, it sounds more like the former. Does she panicked in her dream? when she believes she wasen't breathing?  OOB aside, the other night I was awakened by someone pulling on my left leg. I could discern the dark siloute of a man at the foot of the bed. When I tried to shake the person off, I noticed I couldn't move, so I decided to scream to call the attention of my wife sleeping next to me. But nothing came out of my mouth! Then I 'noticed' I wasent breathing, and I panicked! I tried pushing out from my abdomen with all my strength, but all that came out was this funny moan. Suddenly my 'regular' breathing started, and the figure holding my leg has dissapeared. In the morning my wife commented that I had made some funny noises in my sleep.

Thanks again for your help and concern.
I checked out the website and it turns out she may have Central Sleep Apnea (a neurological disfunction in the brain). The site said it can most likely be treated with medications. She is going to seek professional help. Thank you all! [:)]

I too woke up to someone grabbing my ankles, but was REALLY freaked out!! Tried kicking and yelling, and of course I couldn't.  Finally I managed to make some movement which woke my husband and thankfully he woke me up all the way..[:D] After I thought about it, I didn't really need to be afraid, but hey..it was weird.

Pearlybear: I hope that your friend will get better and that her breathing problem doesn't interfere with her goals of Astral Projecting. And I'm glad she's going to seek professional help.

I once went to a sleeping clinic, not because I have breathing problems, but for my very, very severe (at the time) Sleep Paralysis.

To Mirador and Nay: It sounds like you both have experienced Sleep Paralysis yourselves. Being immobile, seeing and feeling 'terrible things' is common with SP. I'm not sure how severe it is for either of you, or how often you get it or if it was a 'one time thing', but if it happens again, maybe you two should check it out? It could get worse (or it might not, hopefully).

If you search about it here on the forum's search form, you'll find info about, if you're curious.
Where was I going again?

Pearlybear,

She does need to see a medical specialist on breathing/sleep disorders. Once she gets a correct diagnosis of her condition she should ask the doctor about how she can go about meditating. If need be, she should get a second opinion.

Hope she gets treatment that allows her to breathe under all circumstances.

A friend of mine tries to go out of body and can't because she relaxes so much she actually stops breathing. This also happens during regular sleep and is not only oob related. She has to wake up and think "breathe" before she can breathe. Is there anything she can do?
Do you think it would be better for her to try conscious oobing instead? If so who is an expert or one to consult on that subject?
Thanks in advance!
