Spirit Guides/Helpers

That makes two of us.I have requested the help of guides
and looked for them all to no avail.I have been o.b.ing off and
on scince I was 16 [now 35] and so far all i've ever seen
was the "old hag" twice,a nasty looking entity as well as sensed the precence of something or someone [nutral or negitive]in or around my room.[many times]
I too truly wonder if it is they who choose to contact us when they see it fit?

I asked about 7 years ago for my guides and they directly contacted me a week later and told me many things about my spiritual evolvement... my guess is that it is they who chose depending on our spiritual ideals...they have not contacted me since but made it very clear to me that they are always with me...since then I have had a 'buzzing' in my head like a sixth sense.....   we all have ur guides and I really don't know why sometimes they answer and sometimes they don't....  I am guessing that they want us to make decisions about our life and not be dependant on anyone but ourselves..... free will.... a gift and a burden...haha..

I was'nt sure if "they" was a question.

I was once told I was in contact from a
guide though I did not sense that at the time.
While becoming lucid in a dream, I was on a bicycle facing down a steep hill.From behind me I could sense my long time martial arts instructor,suddenly as if telepaticly conected he said "just let go"
as I began my desent the vibrations kicked in and I immeditly appeared back in bed stuck in some type of golden honeycomb vortex that was pulling my body back and forth.
Was that a guide experince? Again I didnt seem to think so but mabey my excpetations are just different.What do you think?

Actualy neither of my old hag stories
were fun.I only know of her because of what I read and my mother told me that other people have descibed her to be the same.
She literaly looked like a medieval woman dressed in what looked like black rags with a hood.The first time I saw her I was in an other room from my now ex-wife.I had been working on projecting out of an other room when early one morning I found myself in the hallway.I was sure that I was awake and decided to go to bed.When I walked into the bedroom I was startled to see a figure standing over my ex and looking at her.Immeditly addrenline filled me as I went into attack mode.This she seemed to sense as she suddenly and slowly raised her head and looked right at me.Her eyes were like luminus black glass and seemed to peirce right though me.I suddenly lunged at her when I awoke in bed with a loud exploding thud.

Aside from dreams and contact with dead family members who came to help me, I have had one or two incidents that seemed to me to be spirit guides. One was very simple but startling and moving. I was in a bad way for a few days, anxiety and that sort of thing, over certain events in my life and in the midst of one of my worst nights wondering if I could stand it anymore, while asking for help, a voice suddenly broke through the chaos in my mind and said very clearly, "you can take it, pal." The tone was so friendly and joking, just like the kind of people I like, as well as sounding like someone I knew, that the effect was to instantly calm me down. I've also had experiences with other types of helpers (long stories) but they too seemed to be friends more than "superior" guides. But then, maybe that's the same thing.

I believe that Robert's stated position in his writings, and with which I personally agree, is that each and every person is not assigned a personal spirit guide (or more than one) at birth.

It is much more likely that good, and willing spirits, will generally answer and assist if called upon to do so.

I think I disagree with R. Bruce's ideas that we don't have spirit guides around us regularly. I wonder if in his case they may remain unseen as they do not want to interfere with his learning process of figuring out what he can on his own, his starting from scratch approach (which he initiated after a voice came to him). Maybe the guides are not always hanging around closely in the astral where we can see them if we OBE. Maybe they are linked from a place more remote and exert influence when they see fit. The general idea seems to be that they do not want to interfere with anyone's lessons here in the physical but will help when it is appropriate according to whatever standards they use. Maybe even though we don't encounter them when we OBE or request their presence, they are still there and make themselves known to some people more than others. Anyway, that is my take on it at this point.

Hi all,
Just a quick note, I have twice asked (loudly) and prayed before I went to sleep that, if I have any guides, they should contact me in my dreams, if only to let me know they exist. Nothing came through. I have felt the presence of spirit beings a few times though (undines...wow), but none of them have ever guided me. Personally I believe that having a higher self, who is capable of interfering should it be necessary, is quite enough .

Once when I was lifting out, I felt a pulling sensation on my astral arms. I looked up to see what was going on, and there was a person whom seemed glittery or silver and shiny. He was half in the ceiling of my bedroom, I wasn't scared but this never happened before. I got worried and popped back to my body. My head was ringing and heart was racing.  I don't know if it was a guide or what... But I prefer to go at my own pace of exploring, not being rushed like that.

Hi Andy, if someone telepathically communicated with you, that would be a guide expereince I think...... my guides telepathically communicated with me... I was fully conscious.. I agree with most here about our guides chosing to helps us depending on the 'rules'.. I have read many books and many of them say that 'we' actually make the rules before comming to this planet and our guides respect our wishes..... oh well.... sounds like the truth to me becasue I have begged at times for my guides to direstly communicate with me again and it's not happening in telepathic words..... just with tones of ringing in my head letting me know that they are always with me.....

It's a while since I have posted but the new forum looks pretty impressive:)

My experience suggests it is the proverbial zoo out there. To make the distinction that some are spirit guides is just a case of definition in my mind. If a spirit guide is someone who helps you along your path then they could be ET's, disincarnated entities, incarnated entities and entities from other densities or dimensions. I have some entities who claim to love me and miss me they also suggest I am one of them. I have no recall of this previous existence.but all I have to do is think of them and I hear this humming noise. The more around me the louder it gets. I find this really comforting but I have no recall of my past association with them. I have pointed this humming noise out to other friends of mine and they can hear it as well and they also notice when it pulses or gets louder or quieter. They claim to be fifth density beings. I really enjoy knowing that they are around.

In addition to the above I have had dreams with dolphins, children, tall glowing beings and Tibetan monks to name a few, all of whom have provided me with important insights. Another place I find hugely rewarding is Arcturus. I have used this as one of my meditation themes since reading that Edgar Cayce had given a reading that it was one of the places souls went for spiritual development. The first couple of times I went there I met these beings with elephant type heads that seemed to have an elongated face or even a trunk. Maybe the Arcturians are symbolised by the god Ganesha of Hindu mythology? I also noticed these guys at the end of an OBE flavoured dream I was having. Jo also confirmed that she has come across these guys with some of her clients.

I guess I have been a bit overwhelming. Anyway this should give some ideas for places where people can look for higher consciousness help. I really do not know how you could make the distinction between higher self or spirit guides. This caused huge arguments in the first forum. I am not much fussed to be honest as long as I get the information I seek.

I think they are often in the background and most do not realise it. The main reason I believe is found in our own fear. Once I rationalised that they were there to help me I started see them. Initially it was children and elderly people. On reflection this was all part of the process of being comfortable with meeting other entities in the astral. That is the first entities I came across were least threatening.

Yes, I have a lot of experience.  No it is not a myth.  Choosey may not be the right word.  You can and will meet your guide(s), but you'll only meet the ones that are appropriate for you at a given time.

Two years is a long time to try with no results.  Have you heard of Michael Harner's book "The Way of the Shaman" or his website? http://www.shamanism.org

Ted Andrew's book "Animal Speak" has some great info in it as well as detailed steps for entering the spirit world and contacting a guide.

Tell me more about what you've read and how you've been attempting to make contact and perhaps I can help you along the way.  It might be that you are just a step, or a concept away from your goal.

Hello White Bear,

Well, with regards to reading, i have an eclectic range of books about OBE/AP. Favourites include Bob Patterson, Willie Buhlman, Robert Bruce and Rosalind McKnight but nothing specific about contacting guides.

Anyhow, my way of contacting them is just by asking them mentally before i attempt to have an OBE etc.. I don't do this aloud, just in case the neighbours are listening.

I have read conflicting theories from we don't have guides, they are just part of our higher self to we do have guides and everyone is part of a soul group. Supposedly, these guides take it in turn to help, depending on the individuals needs at the time; sounds like a relay race.

I have read nothing on Shamanism whatsoever.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Mine are mad at me.

About 6 months ago, when trying to have an OBE, I mentally requested help.  "Help me out of body," or something along those lines.  To get the full feeling of what happened, I'd like you to play along at home.  For this excercise, imagine you are lying on your back, and reach your right arm out in front of you.  Ok, now we're ready for the rest of the story.

After this request, I felt someone grab my right wrist [do that with your left hand now, grab your right wrist tightly with your left hand and pull], and pull me forward.  The event freaked me out so much I screamed, got out of my bed and paced around the room for fifteen minutes.  

They [the Guides, Higher Self] did EXACTLY as I asked, yet I was spiritually unprepared for the assistance they provided for me.  I haven't been able to get in touch with any spiritual entities since.  Maybe tonight I will write out an apology.

Hi Mawk, now that is interesting.
In my first OBE I was visited by 3 bright white beings,the first two maade me very uncomfortable but the third looked childlike and I was quite happy for this one to come close. I didn't feel threatened or anything by them it was just that I wasn't expecting anyone to come by (Teehee!).
I haven't managed to get OBE since but interestingly enough, I had a reading from a friend who is  trance medium who told me that I had 3 spirit guides who had heard all my questions and were there to help me when I needed it. Basically they said that it was them who visited me and they would protect me when I OBE'd or Lucid dreamed again and not to be worried by their being around. This put my mind at rest and I am now actively trying to OBE again in earnest. (It did sort of make me stop and think for a while when they appeared to me).

Dear Ruby149,

May I make a suggestion.  Pick a topic or art or interest or hobby that you really, really enjoy that could also be beneficial to others.  Guides are always attracted to souls that are trying to help others.  Lets say you were interested in spiritual poetry or relaxing music or writing etc.  Before you start working on what ever you chose each time stop and ask that a guide who also enjoys this topic be sent to you so that you can help bring joy or benefit to other peoples lives.  Of course since guides always know your intent you must be very sincere.  When you approach this and share what you are doing you will be surprised at what happens.  Try this and let me know how it goes.  You will not necessarily be consciously aware of what is going on.  But I will say this.  Sometimes you may smell a beautiful smell and not know where it could possibly come from.  Other times you will feel greatly uplifted while doing this and yet other times you will say to yourself there is no way I could come up with this by my self.  And even better....the more one leaves there ego aside the more things start happening and the ability just flows right through you.  I find it very hard to know where my ideas start and theirs finish so I just give them all the credit.  In the last year I moved in to a very difficult R&D position.  There were three projects that were totally stalled.  All those projects are completed now.  Part of it was just letting the people in the department work together and talk things over and think things out but there were a few big stumbling blocks that I figured would stump us all but they didn't.  The solutions just popped in my head and I definitely am not that smart.

OBE might not be the best place to meet guides.  You need to get to the spirit realms, which is easy.  I also have the inner debate about guides vs. inner knowledge vs. collective consciousness vs. etc, etc, etc.  

BOTTOM LINE:  if the metaphor works, run with it.  There is always going to be more mystery than answers.

If you cannot bring yourself to be able to accept that there are spirit guides, then you probably ought to quit half-heartedly trying for them.  They wont come.  Let it alone for a while...come back when you've learned more about it or you've decided it isn't for you.  They'll still be helping you, they just wont bother you with conversations. *chuckle*  However, whey you're talking "guides" you're talking "shamanism".  Not that you have to make any big change in your practiace.  It's just that you are in that ballpark.  If you told me that what I wanted to know lay in the rules of Rugby, wouldn't you expect me to at least learn the game a little?

Disturbing, but not a threat...assuming you've done the typical protection of yourself prior to any contact with guides.

They have a way of doing "big actions" to get your attention.

Unless they've said it specifically, they are not mad at you.  The truth lies somewhere closer to you were frightened by their actions.  

I recently had a "spat" with one of my guides.  Turns out he was right and I was waaay off base.  The "spat" was an intentional thing to get me to see a personal shortcoming.  They had my best interest in mind all the time.

I've never had my guides get physical with me in the way you described. I hope some day to really see them, as one sees anything else in the mundane world.  But I'm also scared of that happening, though less so as of recently.  I need to surrender more....then it may happen.  However, I have a rich relationship with them in the spirit worlds.

I hope to have OBE's some time in the near future, then I could better describe the difference in the "states".  As it is, I know nothing of the OBE realm.

I hope this helps.  Hang in there, and trust your guides (again, I assume you've gone through proper self protection and proper introduction with your guides).

I have been working on obe for 6 years.  I have had some success but i still cant do it at will.  I have had several lucid dreams and in these lucid dreams I have asked to see my spirit guides.  Usually what happens is I ask to see or meet spirit guide and then the lucid dream gets full of people.  Now most of these people are not real I dont think.  They make me ask again to make sure that is my correct intent.  Like Ill see a city street kids playing mail man walking by whatever then I have to search through the people to meet the guide.  That has happened often.  I would usually get distracted just wonder around but now I have a differant look.  I asked to see my guide and then all these kids started coming by like a feild trip this time I just waited around and didnt do anything and didnt let myself get distracted.  They all disappeared and a man showed up.  Now here is the other part I know they are guides I just know but they usually seem to busy for me I ask questions they ignore me I asked for help with out of body like a kid asking parent for candy after several requests I get a we will see.  If they dont answer you then you are not ready to hear what they have to say.  Its part of your life lesson here to get along with out your guide till you have learned enough to listen or whatever it really sucks but im sure that is how it is.

it was four days ago when i downloaded from daven's journal a pdf book concerning magick (a lot of stuff 700 pages)
a few days later i was having a nap but i was almost awake. Suddenly
i felt a fluffy feeling at the top right back of my skull and there was this voice that spelled: "haveN'T you had a new hobby"
at speed of thought i looked at my computer and brought the book of magick at mind. The voice was somewhat of an old person.
Now that i rethink of the incident i adapt the phrase he told me to my new and only a few weeks fresh obe concern.
Same day i heard a bird i had never heard before out of the window and i felt was reforming around an infinite spot in the room as if someone was there with me.
I have to mention that my chest was all anxious too.]
