Title: weird sleep paralysis
Post by: blue_fire on June 11, 2007, 16:13:32
ok so i'm almost positive this is sleep paralysis,
i was dreaming about something cant quite remember then suddenley i felt everthing became real clear
as if ive woken up and i look round im back in bedroom all of a sudden in the exact position i fell asleep in my room is exactly how it should be with everything in the right place, i then think about my dad {who is alive} and instantly this invisible spirit thing shouts YEH U BETTA TALK NICE ABOUT ME !!!
it then presses down on my neck and i instantly went into shock couldnt move, i then wake up again properly and everything is the same the position im in is exactly the same and im still paralysed i try calling out but i cant eventually i wriggle out of it and think WTF just happened :-o :?

was this sleep paralysis and why was i paralysed in my dream only to find when i wake up in the exact position and place i am???

It sounds quite like a false awakening mixed with sleep paralysis. Or you were in a SP state but wavering in and out of sleep, leading to the voice experience. I've had a lot of weird experiences around that kind of state too :).

I have found that if I try to project in a specific position (laying on my right side with my legs bent) the same thing happens to me.  The dream moves to my bedroom all around me, in this vulnerable position, and it is very uncomfortable.  I have stopped trying in this position. It also lasts too long and is incredibly annoying.

I agree with what Mr.Jingo has said. Apart from that, the surroundings are often distorted, so don't put too much attention to it  Try taking really deep breaths next time you can't wake up properly and want to break the paralisys.
Good luck!

I had simmilar experiences too. What worked for me is that i demanded to wake up instantly. It worked

Sleep paralysis is caused (medically) by a part of REM sleep encroaching upon the wakeful state.  The body normally paralyzes the muscles to prevent acting out our dreams physically.  It can also be accompanied by hypnagogic (just falling alseep) or hypnopompic (just waking up) hallucinations that can also include sounds and voices.

Sp IS closely related to OBEs though... but nobody really knows how.  While in SP you can induce an OBE MUCH easier!

So I'm guessing there's some kind of neuro-transmitter or something like that used to send the messages to the muscles to send them to sleep. I feel different the rest of the day after SP so I'm sure there must be some kind of chemical message somewhere.
If you're being bothered by entities during your experience there's ways of getting them to leave. I heard once that calling on Jesus can help. I tried it once and it left instantly, even though I'm far from a Christian. This can probably be adapted to your own beliefs.

If you can get past the fear, it's pretty much just 'letting go'  instead of fighting the paralysis, just let yourself go into the paralysis more and more and it will happen.
