Hi I've been trying to learn astral projection for a while now.  I must confess I am overwhelmed by the amount of techniques that are promoted, especially online.  I think I basically can leave my body to a limited extent, but very much want to develop this.  So, I would like to ask-
What methods tend to yield the best potential for extened astral travel, the traditional occult methods such as the 'body of light' technique or the methods offered by modern day metaphysicians such as Robert Bruce or William Buhlman.
I particuarly would like to ask if Robert Bruce's methods would be beneficial for me considering I already have the basic exit in place and considering the amount of work involved in his methods of training.
Thanks from

Hey 007,

I have never induced an obe's by will (well, sort of.  I woke up two hours early, stayed awake for 30 minutes, and went back to sleep.  Its a pretty easy method.  Also I phased for a few seconds, but Im just not ready to go much further).  For me, robert bruces method has been the most effective in actually developing my ability, instead of relying on luck.  However, I would not say that it has the most potential (at least from what I have read).  I would say that phasing would probably allow you to have not only more experiences, but in higher quality, with more possibilities (unlimited).  Since you could already leave your body, I would further develop your technique (with NEW, and yes robert bruces method + experience alone).  Once you feel you can do this proficiantly, and you really want to go further, then you should learn phasing.  Thats pretty much what I am attempting to do, I am just not all that experienced yet.  If you want to try phasing now, learn to meditate meditation and induce the trance state.  If you are not familiar with phasing, here is a basic outline.

To phase, you get into a very relaxed and calm state of being (body and mind, and trust me, phisical relaxaition is VERY important).  Do not think, just be (be your surrounding, be everything around you. sorry if this is vague). Pay attention to your surroundings.  The goal is to get hypnogogic imagery, which are mental "visions" behind your closed eyelids.  Don't strain your eyes, because its only mental.  Once you get these visions (they should come with time), watch them.  Do this as long as it takes, without thinking, and without affecting.  Just view, nothing else.  Have the desire to become what you see, and eventually (at least for me) you will become part of, or in the scenario you are viewing.  You are no longer seeing, you are being.  Whether it lasts or not, that really depends on your state of mind, mental control, and overal ability.  This method will take you to astral realm and beyond.  Also I would work on stimulating your chakras, especially your third eye, and even your crown chakra.

This a pretty basic summery, and I apologize, but mabe it will help you anyways.  Phasing is a very simple method.

Confusion separates us...and division teaches us that unity is the only truth.

deja vu

i was not aware.. i had no idea... it happens when your at your most physical drained state of mind.... deepest meditation like state.... just before sleep... look through the darkness... watch the colours... look two feet in to the darkness... Vibrations, sleep paralysis kicks in... think of room filling with water when you see through your eyelids.. up you'll rise.

End.

i almost made it once, but I got scared... it was just like you described it... and now, when I try, I am either too tired or I canĀ“t sleep..  :|

That's a good idea actually to look two feet into the darkness.  But I still  have the problem of prolonging my experiences and making them more lucid.

I've found that energy body development as in Robert Bruces methods to help me a lot.  Easier to split and easier to focus too.

there is no "best" method. I have tried dozens of techniques and you just have to experiment. You may have a completely different technique. I have projected several times through dreams, but I'm working on Tvos' technique. However, I have had better results (so far, but sporadically) with just thinking about astral projection a lot and then tell myself I'll fly or astral project while dreaming. It works (for me), but often if you're mind's preoccupied or you're busy with work or school, the technique will fail and you won't dream about astral projection as much.

What worked best for me was
1. Read Robert Monroe's first book.
2. Do the exercises in it.
(it took about 2 0r 3 weeks that fist time)

That got me the first consciously induced oobes.

Then I got Monroe's first tape series and that took it to the next level for me.

The resonant tuning, and the hemispherical synchronization really help a lot.
Zeitgeist! - Shocking, disturbing, but oh so enlightening!  (Zeit like height - Geist like heist) ...with many meanings, think Spirit of the Times.
