Identifying an Entity

This is my first attempt to find answers to questions I've been unable to answer over a span of quite a number of years. Therefore, I'll try to be concise though the story is quite long.

A drifter came into our county and began to participate in many community activities. Eventually, he began to visit my family.

While we were sitting across from each other at  the kitchen table, I was struck backward in my chair by an unseen force.  Later, a cousin was visiting who told me behind the place he sat was the figure with a black cloak and hood without a face, arms or legs.

Another friend along with a companion saw two similar figures in a local park. They promptly left.

Following this, there were nearly one hundred strange events with each involving the young man and affecting several people.

One lady was awakened each night over a rather short period of time to see his face suspended in her bedroom. Objects were seen moving by my students in the school  without anybody to move them.  

This is the tip of the iceberg, but I'd like to thank you in advance for any reply. There isn't any desire to find or contact this young man in any way.

It would be nice to find closure. As a first step, I'd like to understand what this dark force was.
