you bet, it is the best way to learn to relax and to go with the flow of life. If you do take up tai chi then you will need to spend the rest of your life perfecting it, it is that deep and meaningful. As for kundalini / chi, it is there for you to learn about. I started astral travelling after 6 months of tai chi, so there is hope for you too.

I certainly recommend tai chi / dao yin chi kung as the path to enlightenment, but it costs, time and effort. Good luck with your development.

Thanks for the friendly advice astralc - I'm joining the new beginner's class in July.

I noticed you were from St George's Basin!  I used to live in Culburra for about a year, we had a holiday house there. Awesome place, got my love of living by the ocean there...

I did Spring Forest Qigong for about a year, then stopped when I found NEW. A few weeks ago I put the two together. Wow!

Basically, I tried to figure out what the motions where supposed to symbolize or stimulate. Then I would move the energy in synchrony with the motions. It takes focus, internalization, and loads of practice. I can see myself working on this for long time.

In any case, go for it. I suggest you only do what your teacher says for a few months, before experimenting like me. http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile.gif" border=0>

I took a group of boys to Greenpatch Beach for some fishing, I run a Boys Mentoring Program at the high school at Bomo. We had the greatest time, caught some mullet off the beach and I had a nice little nap in the winter sunshine, no wind, nil clouds, kids busy fishing, ahhhh, yes, a little slice of heaven you bet!

Just keep doing your tai chi and you'll become flexible for sure. Add some chi breathing and meditation and things will accelerate in all directions.

Kifyre, welcome back, sounds like you have come back to a tradition built for exploring and developing with new methods. Let us now how you go with it.

I'm currently stuck in Melbourne for work, but often do the Sydney-Melbourne weekday commute. You can imagine our glorious weather - the rain, wind, and general coldness! I don't mind Melbournites - they're more personable than Sydneysiders. But then again nothing beats the South Coast http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile.gif" border=0>. I plan to retire to a seaside villa on the Gold Coast once I've made my millions - just love the ocean.

I'm beginning Tai Chi real soon... thanks again for the info!

Bodybuilder here, too.  And a martial artist.

    Obviously you can imagine all the ways lack of flexibility can break the misaligned bones of a powerlifter, or worse.  You should be able to stretch to the point of relaxation when you're done, at least. This is for healing. Firstly, the stretched tendons will allow for greater muscle growth. Secondly, the alleviation of tension serves to move waste chemicals out of the body. This goes a long way against general fatigue. After a good relaxation, you may even be able to repeat a muscular workout several times if there are enough calories and enough stamina built up to handle that level of damage safely.

    The problem with TaiChi is that most people don't realize that they are supposed to take their learning home, work with it, and bring back questions. Many of the womens'/childrens' self defense-level teachers would not even be prepared to answer such questions, beyond basic forms. Those would certainly need not be educated enough to make sure the postures are perfect, either.  Ask yourself specifically what you want out of TaiChi. Then ask your instructor if he can provide that for you. If you're just going to be a fairly innactive participant in courses on this eastern religion, I would suggest you research various books on plyometrics.

HINT: While the master should not be treated as a circus performer, the effect of spiritual developement should be shown literally, rather than altruistically. Otherwise, any conclusions he draws are irrelevant.

Is there anyone out there who's practicing QiGong or Tai Chi?

I'm looking seriously at taking up Tai Chi very soon, then progressing to Dao Yin QiGong. I'm a bodybuilder, and don't have (a) great flexibility, (b) muscular relaxation. I want to know if Tai Chi really does help in achieving a relaxed body, and if QiGong has any appreciable effects on energy raising/manipulation. If not, I'd rather go for something like yoga, deep tissue massage or Pilates. Just wanted to know if anyone has good/bad experiences with the above.
