well, we have many concepts for karma, and understand how it works it in a different ways
time to clarify it, i will speak from my experience

at first i thought that karma is what we owe to others, like i hit you and you will hit me or something, perhaps in future life, perhaps right now

well, it isn't working that way

actually karma is not attached to specific person
(this would be called attachment and is energy link that drains your chi to the target, and it DOES stay between lives)
rather the situation is recreated by parties that have corresponding karma, but may have never met before in any life, when it is fullfiled both sides are free
of course there is a possibility that the karmic situation was so specific, that fullfiling it may require the previous party exclusively (there is noone around with similiar karma)

having cleared it we may turn to releasing karma
here i am a bit confused, hence the topic
since it isn't attached to anyone in particular (hopefully), understanding situation and intending to release it releases it
since you learned the lesson there is no need to experience the other side, that wouldn't make sense
but is that so ?
there should be some reaction on the other side, the law of cause and effect mustn't be broken, but then to who, to all interested in particular, to mass consciousness ?
or you just must complete it in life situations
my experiences suggest otherwise
so i'm wondering here, and i am interested in your input

I do not see why you could not clear up your karmic issues by yourself without interracting in life situations.  I guess you could see the effect as that now that you have such and such karmic issue cleared up you now make it easier for those with the corresponding issue to clear up their karma when  you interract with them for you will no  longer be providing something to resist against.

Of course, if you follow this argument out to its logical conclussion, as you clear up your karma you are also clearing everyone elses karma.  The less you make something an issue the less the other will make it an issue.  I don't see this as giving up responsibility or making it harder for others to work out what they need to work out.  Perhaps, similar to the idea of Darshan where by being in the presence of high energy beings their energy also transforms you.

You're palying tug of war, and if you realize that there is no rope it doesn't necessarily mean the other person is going to fall down into the mud.  They'll still be pulling on this imaginary rope that never really existed.  If they are still drawn to you, if it was specific enough to do that, then the connection is still there for them but when they get to you, you will have cleared it up and they will be better able to see that they are holding on to nothing, since you are no longer providing reinforcement of the idea.

and this was what i needed
you cannot imagine how many useless constructs i applied when i tried to solve it
still, kiss applies (keep it simple, silly)
i get "inner knowing" that i cleared karmic issues, but couldn't understand this part
now i am ultimately free in that particular area

Individuals have Karma, Societies have Karma, Nations have Karma.  The World has Karma.  Presently I think the World's largest problem is that it murdered Jesus -- albeit that the Christians set up a Doctrine saying that such a murder was necessary and even desireable, still, I suppose that a very convenient doctrine and have never believed it for a moment.  I would rather think that terrible spiritual consequences are still reverberating from that tragic piece of torture and butchery.

Even Saints have Karma.  One of the greatest Saints I know about, Sai Baba of Shirdi, kept with him a common brick which his Guru had given him when he was just a child.  When the Saint was almost seventy years old, the brick fell over and broke, and the Old Saint said "My Karma was bound up in that Brick and it will not survive its breaking".

It is Karma which keeps us alive.  We are here to do something, and that something, whatever it is, is connected and interwoven with Karma.

It is said that we can unravel our Karmic debts by performing all our actions in the Spirit of Non-attachment, and with the Guide of Pure Dharma, or Duty, deciding what those actions should be.  Or that was the Stoic or Old School definition.  Nowadays, Stoicism has been replaced in large part by the Doctrines of Love.  Actions done in the Spirit of Love will Free us.

And we have still another innovation brought to us by the Catholic Church... it is the idea that individuals may step forward and volunteer as Victim Souls to take upon themselves the Karma of their Communities, Societies, and Nations.

I do wish that individuals, societies and Nations would act with a greater sense of Moral Responsibility.  Now, our World operates largely as a Hobbesian Realm of barbaric selfishness where our leaders do everything to assure that life is "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short".  national economies are bolstered by exporting poverty, and individual wealth is secured by intensifying the exploitation of others.  This Victimization of Others is certainly no good for the Karmic Health of the World, and it is easy to see that the World is probably in large part dying from the toxic results.

There was a great deal of Suffering in the 20th Century, by a lot of people.  And there were a large number of Victum Souls.  But if we look at Historic Forces, the World has not grown any wiser.  the 21st Century looks like a replay of the 20th Century, this time with America wishing to push the World into a General War of Annihilation (Britain lead the way last time, but is now is happy just to be a little side-kick helper in provoking all the Death and Destruction).

Whatever happens, I think it will all play out in the next 8 years, before 2012.

A small thing is missing from the above posts....  Intent.

Karma..  I think and or act in one specific way in one particular moment, setting off an Interplay of energy that ultimately MUST manifest in the world...  in one form or another.

That is a mechanical equation, If this... then someday That.

Karma is mechanics.

Mechanics of choices.

So, I Intend something, think it and act it...  one day it must manifest... But...  the Intent was specific in it's nature and the target.

Ah !  Now it is more than simple mechanics.

I assigned it initial characteristics and directed it to a specific person etc....     SO,  the Balance for this would be Most Effectively achieved within the physical experience.

It is able to be dealt with in the non-physical too..  maybe just not as Effective.

Too much thinking...  time for sleep now....
