Hi.

Excellent idea Timeless.

"There is only one thing faster than the speed of light,
and that is the speed of doubt." - 'Sandman'.  'Good News Week'.]

"The period of greatest gain in knowledge and experience is the most difficult period in one's life. Through a difficult period you can learn, you can develop inner strength, determination and courage to face the problems." - The Dalai Lama.

Got heaps more if you want them. LOL

Love always.

"He who writes about himself in his own time, writes about all men in all times."  I am not sure who said it but I love this one.

Also there is my all-time favorite quote, "To know that you know nothing, makes you wise."  Again I am not sure who said it.

Tayesin, I would love to hear what other ones you have.

When I attended the Zen Center of Los Angeles, I always liked the vows said during each session of zazen:

            The many beings are numberless,
              I vow to save them;
            greed, hatred, and ignorance rise endlessly,
              I vow to abandon them;
            Dharma gates are countless,
              I vow to wake to them;
            Buddha's way is unsurpassed,
              I vow to embody it fully.

(nice topic, timeless)

Here are a couple of quotes from a book I just read, The Kybalion:

"Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates."

"Every Cause has its Effect; every Effect has its Cause; everything happens according to Law; Chance is but a name for Law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the Law."

^ I disagree with that quote Nick. Cause and effect only apply to places that time exists, which does not include everywhere.

Here are two quotes of mine, following on from Jilola's lead.

"Forgetting oneself is no different than forgetting a friend"
-ME

I don't know any fancy Zen poetry as some of you people do, but I know my own truths and this is one of them.

Can you honestly say that any friend you ever lost contact with wasn't a loss to your personality? If you never even considered their loss, they weren't your friend in the first place :-D

"Your allies in life are Me, Myself, and I, THEN YOUR FRIENDS"

"People are stupid, trust noone until they give you a reason to do so"

"Do or do not, there is no try"
--This one deserves a second posting

"No action or justification comes without responsibility"
--This is why religion is stupid. You pull the handle to an electric chair, you are the killer, no one else, but everyone involved is responsible. This makes religion self defeating because nobody morally takes responsibility for their actions in the afterlife according to our modern society.

ALl of these come from me except for the Yoda one. They aren't ina  poetic style and not hard to understand. Try it for yourself, easy as pie, interesting to read, and it will show you the truth along with others that you want to know it.

Ok, mine is a little bit longer than others..

Dying to the Vehicle
today I dis-identify with my body and identify with that
which is timeless, infinite and eternal.  My body is the vehicle through which the spirit is made flesh.  All of my body is contained within my mind, but all of my mind is not contained within my body. I am more than mere flesh--I am light and devine energy, a piece of eternity.  When I know that I am more than my body, that my body is the vehicle through which soul is made manifest, then I can become a channel of transcendent, divine, God energy.

Joseph Cambell.

I found a book in the basement today and opened it up and this is the page that found me.

Some fragments from me.

The propensity of belonging to oneself is an essential state, befitting ones nature, in order to achieve completeness.

Love is like a towel in the desert.

I woke up this morning and caught the left side of my face smilng and the right side laughing at the left.

And by others;

Those who think the unreal is, and think the real is not, they shall never reach the truth, lost in the path of wrong thought.- Buddha.

In time you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul. Maintain your self esteem, take and receive love freely and you'll be forever free to dream. Love like you have never been hurt and dance like no ones watching for life is to0 short to have a heart bound by pain.

If you planted hope today in any hopeless heart
If someone's burden was lighter because you did your part,
If you caused a laugh that chased some tears away
If tonight your name is named when someone kneels to pray
Then your day has been well spent.

Ferris Beuller said, "Any 'ism' in my opinion is not a good thing".

Not exactly a quote from a religious source, but it's relevant nonetheless.  Any "ism" (ie; catholicism, judaism, communism, socialism)  ALWAYS consist mainly of vocal fanatics and stubborn "dead enders" not open to new ideas....(or frightened little sheep afraid of what they don't understand)

Always keep an open mind, never lock yourself into a concretized belief system and expect to progress spiritually.

My two favourite occult proverbs:

1) A little knowledge is dangerous (cf Allanon!)

2) To realise that you know nothing is the beginning of wisdom (everyone else!)

Two other lines I like, not really occult proverbs as such, just two good quotes which surely belong together:

1) The mind is like a parachute; it does'nt work if it's not open!

2) It's good to have an open mind; but not so open that your brains fall out!

One of my favorite verses from the Word of God

1. 1 Corinthians 13

Love

1If I speak in the tongues[1] of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,[2] but have not love, I gain nothing.
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love

"Men are afraid to forget their minds, fearing to fall through the Void with nothing to stay their fall. They do not know that the Void is not really void, but the realm of the real dharma."

[Please note dharma means "the way things are." This may seem overly vague, until you understand that the word "dharma" has been used to imply "the laws of nature" or "that which sustains the universe."]
