Your methods of Trance Meditation

well, the few times i do go into a trance, i usually start off by talking myself into relaxing. ie, "relax... relax... your muscles are getting heavy, but you aren't getting tired... you are just relaxing..... relax your muscles ... let them sag to the earth ... let gravity pull them downward ... let them fall ... let them relax..." etc.

it is important to spend time while doing this so that you relax your entire being, thereby lessening the likelihood that you will become "excited" while doing stuff and loose concentration. never be afraid to take the time that is neccessary, the idea that time can be wasted is an illusion thrown over your eyes by those corporate jerks who want to use you [;)].

when my entire body relaxes (my feet, my legs, my stomach, my back, my chest, my hands, my arms, my neck, my chin, my nose, my cheeks, my forehead, my ears, and the rest of my head), i then allow myself to sink inward, to go where it will.

i find that it is very important that i do each part of my head seperately, because for me any non-relaxed muscle in my face or head will distract me greatly if it ever gets the opportunity (by twitching, itching, tingling, etc).

and that's how i do it.

I usually start by doing a lot of stretching, which makes the transition to the trance state much faster.I make sure I get out all physical tension.then I ly on the bed and begin the "sinking feeling".after a few minutes, my arms begin to feel heavy, and my body feels "wavy".I also wear earplugs, to block out all distractions, which keep me from getting to a deep level.after awhile, I hear wierd noises and echoes and stuff, and sometimes I activate the chackras.sometimes I try to visualize blinding white energy entering and relaxing my body from toes,to head.

I believe I posted my trance technique a few days ago, but I will try to go into more detail.  This isn't any technique I learned, I just sorta through some stuff together and it worked.  All of my trance states have been right before going to sleep as that has been the only times I practice energy work (changing that now, will do more work in the day).

First, I do some simple stretches on the floor before climbing into bed.  Once in bed, I do the physical relaxation he describes in Astral Dynamics, where you contract opposing muscles then relax them.  After this, I do a small session of breath awareness, in a way I learned in Yoga class (I think he goes over it in AD also).  I first breathe into my head and really concentrate on how my head feels (Breath awareness combined with Body awareness I suppose), then my neck, shoulders, arms, chest, stomach, etc.... all the way to my feet.  If any of these areas feel tight I try to relax them.  Afer this I do some mobile body awareness exercises.

I first start with my left big toe, feeling up and down the top of it with my awareness.  Once I feel that toe vibrating/tingling/etc., I concentrate for a sec on each of my toes on that foot.  Then I use brushing awareness back and forth across my toes until I can feel them tingling decently.  Then I use brushing awareness over the top of my foot from the tips of my toes to where my foot meets my leg.  Then I do the spiraling awareness exercise on the sole of my foot (see AD).  Afer that, I do the same with my right foot, then I try to focus on both feet at once.

Next, I use brushing awareness up each side of my left leg (front, back, left side, right side), then my right leg, then both at the same time.  Basically I use brushing or bandage wrapping type MBA techniques up the rest of my body until I feel each part start tingling.  Always, left, right, then both for me.  I'll usually go over my whole body twice, by this time, my body feels heavy with vibrations/tingling/energy sensations/etc.

This is when I focus on my breathing and on the exhale try to feel as if I'm sinking, a feeling of vertigo, like going down on a elevator.  After a few minutes of this, I won't be able to sense my physical body anymore and the vibrations always feel heavier to me (sometimes I hear strange noises/voices (internal clutter).  Sometimes, prior to this step I will try to activate my chakras or 'feel' them, starting from the base chakra on up.  Most times my heart Chakra and my 3rd eye chakra starting pulsating hard and fast and I get too excited/nervous and lose my concetration :(.

As I am in the early stages of energetic development, I just try to hold this state w/out falling asleep, and have not yet attempted projection.  I may be doing a little bit too much leading up to the trance state, but its worked so far :).

As a side note, I heard the phone ring once when I was in trance, it was right next to my head but it sounded like it was in another room, when I decided I would wake up and answer it, the sound increased 10 fold instantly.

Go for a long run and when you get back, take a nice hot shower, and put on some soft ambient techno music. The bass will have you in a trance in no time!

I do deep rhythmic breathing similar to what you do but do not do any counting. It helps to be somewhat relaxed/tired before but entering and staying in trance is not always predictable. Awile back there was discussion of using hemisync or BW brainwave generators but it did not seem to initiate a trance. Lately I listened to a drumming cd from a book that seems to work for me. I was gonna post about it but haven't yet.

Hey ralphm!

Thanks for replying. It's nice to see another with similar techniques. And I find that drowsiness edges on my success greatly.

I'm sure people would like to see that post you intended to make about that drumming cd. [:)]

Thanks again.

Everyone else, please join in.

I've been doing Zen meditation for a number of years having learned the basics at the Zen Center of Los Angeles back in the 90's. The method has stayed with me. I use it to get to the trance state. It is pretty simple really. Focus on your breathing. You can start by counting breaths up to ten, then back to one again, and so on. The purpose is to empty your mind. After a while, when you get good at emptying your mind of random thoughts, you can drop the counting and just follow your breaths. A couple of really good books if you're interested are: Taking the path of Zen by Robert Aitken; and Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind by Shunryu Suzuki.[;)]

Hello all.

I have always been intrigued by meditation and altered states. What is very fascinating to me is trance meditation: such as the type of experience that Robert Bruce experienced and shared on this site in the articles section, and obviously experiences often. Thus my question is: What are your methods of trance meditation?
................

"I did a 5 hour trance meditation, starting at 11am, sitting in my office chair as I usually do. I had many OBE's and lucid dreams during this time, but an hour before the end I developed unusually strong astral sight with great clarity of perception."

"I was sitting at my desk, in front of my computer, where I usually meditate from. My astral eyes opened and I could see the room around me very clearly, more clearly in fact than in normal life. I seemed to have a pair of astral eyelids that I could open and close on multiple levels of the astral."

Maybe there is something that I can do, or not do, that can deepen my meditations. By having your methods to choose from that would help me, and others that come through, greatly.

Here is my method:

I sit and do rhythmic breathing, inhaling to the count of 4, holding to the count of 2, exhaling to the count of 4, and holding again to the count of 2. Then I start over again. After a while of doing this my body starts to relax, and my meditative start starts to deepen. Then I can sit still and just allow myself to experience the trance that I've brought myself to.

What are your methods of meditation, in particular trance meditation? And in addition to that, how do you define trance meditation?

Sincerely,

Celestial Sounds
