I wrote an acoustic song a while ago... Well, a friend of mine rewrote the instrumentals to be rock then we recorded it. Oh snap!

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did singing it :)

Take to the sky, feeling so alive! Past the clouds to the Milky Way, share our secrets with the starry brigade. The stars surround us like a million fireflies. For once I see infinity... it's in your eyes.

Very nice! The vocals and instrumentals work well together. The only change I would make in it would be the depth. Like I said vocals and instrumental are good, but the mix seems to be off a tad.
Wayyyyyyyyyy better than I could ever do though.  :-D
It's sounds like a mix between Twisted Sister and the little Mermaid, lol. Just joking there!  :-)
I thoroughly enjoyed it, keep them coming!

I agree - very good work. :D

Oooh... .This is a bit different ChopstickFox... Your voice is great.

I would say that Twisted Sister and the little Mermaid is a fair comment.. and one I doubt you would be unhappy with. ;)

Especially since I meant the little Mermaid to signify her innocence and angelic voice!

haha! I'm glad you guys enjoyed it!

And we totally want to know how to improve it. So, the depth? Is the voice too quiet? I wanna bring comments right back to my friend. :3

In my opinion, the vocals and the instrumentals need to mix a bit more. Listen to some other rock videos and you will see how the music and vocals kind of become one, how they meld together to form the song. Now, mind you I understand that they have very expensive and intensive recording studios. So, I don't know if you really could do a better job of mixing this without the high tech gear.

I have listened to Oriental style rock in the past and find that this is something that is a common occurrence. I'm sure different cultures prefer different music styles, just like anything else.

If anyone wants to hear my original acoustic version it's here:

Not really as BA, but... in some ways it's a little more authentic and true to the meaning behind the song.... :) So I hearts it

This is definitely a much better fit for your angelic voice!  :-)
I love rock and many a rock song has been redone in more of a accoustic version, improving the song by leaps and bounds.

Edit: I would really like to help you with this Rock version. I really like that song. I just listened to it a couple of times, both versions and I think I can pinpoint what it needs. Your voice is so clear and angelic, but rock needs a bit of rasp, a bit of anger. Your voice needs to be strong, listen to Evanescence or Hailstorm. Amy Lee commands the song. She has a sweet voice too, but  you hear her strength coming through as is the same with Lizzy Hale.

ChopstickFox

Thanks, that's one thing I've always needed to work on. My friend has been telling me to get aggressive and gritty with it, haha. It might end up better if I can record myself alone. I have a bad habit of being shy.

I know what you mean, lol. It's a catchy tune!

Hey, stop the shyness. I've listened to your music, all I could find and the only thing not doing you justice is the accompaniment. Hit those strings with more accentuation. Their dynamics are just not being used. A few harmonics too.
Do this and increase the volume then you will do your voice justice.
For an example I suggest you listen to the piano doing just this. Most piano tracks from the Kolacny brothers with the girls do exactly whats required.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcjec7WZ41s&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Listen at the start where the keys are caressed to produce light notes.
Listen again about half way through, now the keys are met with a passion for power. They shout amidst the vocals and still are clearly heard.

You can do the same.
I love music and you are NOT doing yourself justice.
You have a good voice and it gets subdued with a weak accompaniment.

Don't think I'm being hypocritical. Change the playing style of the accompaniment and listen again.

Another song I'd love to hear from you is Bookends also known as Old Friends by Simon and Garfunkel. You would instantly make a brilliant cover of this. I realised this listening to Mad World, the second track I played.
All your music is wonderful and you asked for constructive feedback, you've got it.
You can shout back if you wish. I'll not be offended at all.
I hope nothing nasty come from the above. Thats not the intention at all.
Eagerly waiting for the response.

hehe, for the acoustic songs, I play while singing and I'm really not good at it @_@ I have one mic so I favor my voice. I really need to learn how to play the guitar alone then make another track singing, but I haven't done enough experimenting yet. Very very valuable tips. Beautiful song... Reminds me of my choir days...

I've written a few things for choir, but haven't done much with them. It's a shame, I need a slap. @_@

I LOVE Simon and Garfunkel, but I haven't heard Bookends before. Beautiful! And I love the words...

I shared with my friend this evening all the comments and we are going to try more mixes. Also listened to a bunch of Amy Lee. I think I can do it! :) And I guess that can be half the battle.

You're way past the halfway point.
I knew bookends would go well.
You play and sing, that takes a bit of doing.
Agreed on getting more sound gear, Its a must have.
If you struggle to play then sing I'd suggest trying an accentuated metronome.  Instrumental first and record the vocals after. It helps lots of musicians and think the words while recording the instrumental.

Simon and Garfunkel, excellent musicians, heard them in the.
60's and still do.
Scala and the Kolacny Brothers, I can't get enough of their music. Listening to it while typing, the German tracks off Ring playing.
Keep going, youll be world famous soon.

I have tried recording the guitar and voice separately. I could apply different effects that way and I was freed up to concentrate a little more on singing.

Wow. Thats far better. The harmonisation works really well. A louder and clearer instrumental too. I like the use of reverberation to give more depth.
I'm going to listen to the song by the original as it's not one I know that well.
Im sure others here will love it.
Even more convinced Bookends will work for your style.

Id love an mp3 of this and your others. I dont know where to obtain them.

Keep going, very impressive.

I can email if you would like. ^_^ Maybe I will eventually re-record the other ones because I really hear the difference. Getting better at changing the settings too. Good thing I will be bringing the stuff to China with me! I really can't believe it... my wedding's only about a week away then only about 2-3 weeks till China. Goodness!

That would be wonderful. I think you can get the info from my profile, its not hidden. I can listen when working too.
Im glad you can see the difference.
It doesn't take much to make a big change apparent.
I've listened to a few covers of this song and like yours better. It's a pity its not the 80's . I'd talk to the guys in the recording studio, Im sure you'd be a guest and spin a few tracks.
When you email the tunes I'll give them another listening and see if the dynamics can be addressed before you re-record. I can make suggestions, if you wish.
Your wedding will have to take priority and I hope everything goes to plan. Im sure your husband knows he a lucky guy and you both work well together.
Going back to China should be good too. Your choice of song is obviously because of this. I am guessing lol.
Any problems you can PM me.

As an artist, I'm sure you won't be offended when I say, hopefully without creeping you out, that your voice is very erotic. You certainly stirred something in me.

I read somewhere that the voice of the opposite sex has a very strong impact on what we view as attractive. The theory is that back in our cave man days, sitting around in the darkness (other than a dim campfire) and talking was a very important part of deciding who you wanted to mate with. I know you probably want to say duhhh! But think of how many times we ruin the mood by opening our mouths these days. It was much more complicated than that but I wanted to warn you that, you woke up the cave man in me.
It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.
Mark Twain

Bedeekin

I'll second that Its-all-bad.

Can you change your name to 'Its-not-that-bad-after-all'?

Szaxx

You mean like this,

The voice of an Angel speaks volumes times three,
The highest of all latent classically.
The middle is powerful precise so direct,
Anything performed is done so perfect.
The last expressed youthness in all its candour,
The calling the attraction a  desire evermore.

Listen on YouTube and you'll understand what I mean if it's not yet apparent.
@ fox,
I hope you're settled now after the move and progress with the indigenous language.
More later...

I worked on a bunch of recordings today! So far I have "Hey there Cthulhu" posted. I just couldn't wait for the video to be finished! >_<

It is a funny parody of "Hey there Delilah"
