Hi,

Searched AP forum for CrossRoads Institute and didn't see anything specific about them.

http://www.crossroadsinstitute.org/index.html

I found them on a google search when looking for simple descriptions of brainwave frequency, http://www.crossroadsinstitute.org/eeg.html and how to  relate specific frequencies to brain activity during trance and phasing experiences. Somewhat along the lines of the formal studies by The Voice of Silence. (I'm searching his site further also)

I really like the straight forward approach and I'm interested in how CrossRoads cover the EEG and the 24 channel QEEG brain mapping theory.

As concentration and lucid wakeful like states of consciousness and vivid memory are mixed with deep relaxation and sleep like states , I still wonder how the full range of mental states and frequencies are working simultaneously, and what indications can be seen on a 24 channel QEEG machine while someone is phasing.

The question more or less, is: if we experience a fully lucid state during phasing, with vivid memory, while in the sleep like trance state, we should see Beta and Gamma wave activity during this sleep state, (which is sort of a contradiction).

A significant test I can imagine would be to see if a person can solve math problems during the trance state while phasing. (Expecting  Beta/Gamma activity if following the conventional theory.)  Although, can the visualization of 3d geometry be considered similar to solving math problems?

You'll notice on the beta diagram that the wave EEG is small waves all bunched together, it looks like static on a radio or seems very 'noisy'. Then on the other end of the scale the delta EEG shows large waves.  What happens in the brain when you are falling asleep is that neurons begin to fire in a synchronised fashion. During the 'awake' states your neurons do their own thing leaving a high frequency low amplitude EEG. During the sleeping states they fire in sync and superimpose on each other, giving you a low frequency, high amplitude EEG.

A study done on monks EEG's http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/14.02/dalai.html

Few abstracts of research papers done on the longitudinal effects of meditation www.mindmodulations.com/resources/Study-EEGandmeditation.pdf <--- Has anyone got any other sites on longitudinal studies in relation to EEG's and meditation?

The research by Davidson and Lutz with reports of very high Gamma activity and synchronization during the monk's meditation is the kind of stuff I'm looking for.
Really fascinating article.

Did you see the National Geographic special about the ancient Tibetan self mummified monks? The archeology study also included research on the local monk volunteers, and they revisited tests and monitoring of the monks as they sat in near freezing temperatures as their bodies heated up and dried out cold wet sheet robes during meditation.

The narrator said that the average person would quickly reach hypothermia and death in those conditions. This would have to be one of the best scientifically documented examples of super human mental ability.

Much appreciation for the links and I'm still studying the EEGandmeditation pdf.

EDIT today: Something I've wanted to do for over 20 years, a home EEG machine. I have a little bit of workinng electronics background, so going to attempt this.
