I think musicmatch jukebox can rip. Get it to do it to mp3 only though, certainly not wav! For every one song in wav you can get at least ten times the amount in mp3. 128bps is standard.

You are the Alpha and the Omega. You are vaster than the universe and more powerful than a flaring supernova. You are truly incredible!!

At home I have an earlier version of FreeRip. The newest version seems to charge $10 after a very short time and it has been accused of causing many crashes. The version I have seems to run well enough. Have you tried searching at http://www.download.com/ for free rippers?

I personally like CDex which you can also get at http://www.download.com. It uses the LAME encoder for MP3 but you can also rip to WAV format with it.

Greetings,

Tucows is the place for anything like this - they probably have loads to choose from for free download from numerous servers in most parts of the world:

The best software has a "5 cow" rating  [:)]

You can also download 'free-trial' programs to convert files.  Just do a search for WMA to MP3 or something like that.

I found one, it also gets the song info, etc.  Thanks so much for all the info though and I will likely download a backup program.  I think this info will most likely be of use to others.

By the way, what do you all think about dowloading music/copy rights infrigement?

I also use CDex.

About the copyright enfringements...
Well, what about cassette tapes?  The industry didn't mind then?  So now what you can do it with high-quality CDs they care?  If they wanted to be against copying of music, they should have started their battle against it with cassette tapes.
Also, I don't feel bad for the record companies one bit.  In fact I'm happy they're losing money.  Recording companies are practically scam artists.  Musicians make almost NO money from record sales.  They make most of their money from going on tour.  All the hundreds of million dollars the recording industries get from record sales goes right into the recording company's pockets.  [}:)]

You know, about the copyright infringement: If they shut down Kazaa and Nabster and other MP3 download things, the reason is that they are listening to the music without paying the musician, right? Well, what do you do at a library? I don't have to pay anything and I get to read every word of the author's book without him/her getting any credit.

And I agree about the cassettes too. It's a little late to act now.

I have been looking for an easy way to RIP cd's (copy them from the disk) to my hardrive.  I dont care really if they're ripped to WAV or MP3, so as long as I get them on the drive...

I was happy to find out Window Media Player (the latest) does so really easily BUT I was NOT HAPPY to find out it rips them into WMA format, which I subsequently can't burn to CD or convert, at least wthout buying some dumb program.

How do you rip?  Which program do you use?
Any help would be appreciated!
