I just can't comprehend how the average human being has the ability to visualise and draw in such an accurate manner. I mean, how? When I daydream or lucid dream, the details aren't enough to be able to project onto paper directly from my subconscious whilst I trace it, I just don't get it. Sad

I'm not just whining btw, the question is in the title, lol

Some of the best drawings are done by using the 3rd eye. But this comes with a lot of practice and you have to maintain that practice to hold the connection to the 3rd eye. This answer was given to me compliments of my better half who is a very creative artist. Mary Jo says there is a book called "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain", she says "it gives drawing exercises to help you develop the connection to the 3rd eye".
I hope this helps you!  smiley

The trick is, most artists aren't visualizing the whole thing when they come up with a picture. They just come up with a general concept and form and some colors, not much different from an average imagination.

When they start drawing it, that's when they're making up most of the picture - with the aid of the drawing board.

I also agree with Lionheart. These type of drawings are done by using the 3rd eye and you have to practice more and more for drawing.

My high school art teacher used to say that drawing is a skill that anyone can be taught to do. Using that skill to create real art is a whole different matter.

The trick is, most artists aren't visualizing the whole thing when they come up with a picture. They just come up with a general concept and form and some colors, not much different from an average imagination.

When they start drawing it, that's when they're making up most of the picture - with the aid of the drawing board.

This is what I mostly do when I draw. I start with a simple concept that I build on. Once a section goes down, I can look at it and intuitively know what to do next. I like not thinking about it very much and let the art do it's own thing. I used to have a hard time trying to come up with something to draw, but now I feel there are an infinite number of ideas to start from.

It's different when I'm building something though. Say I'm creating something practical out of wood, I'll have a perfect picture of it in my head, and most of the time it materializes that same way. But it's probably a bad idea to decide how to build a table as your in the process of building it.

I thought of one more thing to say more relevant to the original question:
I just can't comprehend how the average human being has the ability to visualise and draw in such an accurate manner. I mean, how? When I daydream or lucid dream, the details aren't enough to be able to project onto paper directly from my subconscious whilst I trace it, I just don't get it. Sad

I consider art (not just drawing) to be a spiritual activity (if done right). And not just metaphorically, but in that it's actual communication with your spirit through intuition and inspiration. True art expresses an inner feeling of the artist, so when someone is really observing it in the right way, they should experience the same inner feeling the artist had.

When I was in Tampa at the Salvidor Dali museum, I was going through a section of paintings that are kind of creepy and dark, and are loaded with subconscious symbolism. When I go to the last one in the group, I had this horrid feeling that made me want to get away from it as fast as I could, yet was so fascinated I couldn't turn away. Immediately after that they had a sign that explained it was a set of paintings where Dali would bring himself to a point of extreme paranoia and paint from that. I immediately realized that's what those awful feelings were about.

So art can communicate a lot of different ideas as well as be a metaphysical experience for both the artist and the observer. The action comes from inspiration and intuition and can take you to areas of mind you never imagined.
