Hi all, my friend took these pics at the cathedral at Notre Dame Paris while the easter service was going on. So what does every one reckon? Spirit orbs or dust on the camera lens? she took dozens of pics that day but only these had the strange formations on them. Regards Marcus x

I would have to ask if it was a digital camera or not.

The on set of digital cameras has created a boom in the "orb" pictures.  I would consider them more if the showed movement or were more "wispy" and not near perfect circles.

Check this out.  First time I looked at it I was like...whoa..  But then I watched it again.  If you look to the right you can see the squashed bug on the windshield.  It's in focus at first.  Just watch it.

Does anyone watch Ghost Hunters, aka TAPS?  A few shows ago they were using the...heat camera.. can't think of the name.  Anyhoo, at one point it looks like this shadow comes out of the wall at the stairs and then disappears around the corner.  It looks WILD!!  then it turns out that it is the railing on the stairs..hehehehe.. when he is moving the camera, it appears that it is a shadow moving.

I'm seeing more and more things that can be explained away.  Funny how our brains fill in the blanks.

I've learned that as a rule of thumb when you see more thn 1 orb in a picture it is probably dust particle or moisture.

The day I got my digital camera I've had an object appear in front of my head but it doesn't look like any other orbs I've seen so I guess it was not an orb but an ufo.

I can add to this a little bit.

A couple of years ago I attended Robert Bruce's workshop in Montana. Part of that experience was a trip to a cave (fairly small entrance and not "user friendly," but worth it.) There were 15 or 20 of us. The cave was moist, so any dust would have been minimal. We all sat down and all lights were turned off.

When my eyes adjusted, I could see several blue orbs drifting and zipping around somewhere in front of me. They were of various sizes. The smaller ones tended to scamper about, moving fast and erratically. The larger ones were inclined to drift, or just hover in place.

When I closed my eyes I couldn't see them, so they were a physical thing, not metaphysical. Several folks did capture them on film, and they look just like standard orb photos.

Some folks said they were dust particles and some folks said they were spirits. I have no idea what they were, but can say with certainty that you don't need a camera to see them.

The orbs were just one event among many. It was an interesting trip!

Those look like obs to me.  My daughter can see them and she says they look just like the ones in your pics we call them angels... and it makes sense that you would have them in those pics of the religious icons.  I have a friend who has millions of them that hang around his house.  If I can find the pics, I will post them.  The orbs look like an egg cell or concentric rings.  Dust looks like scratches.

Hi, at the risk of sounding thick!? are you saying they look like orbs or dust? MK

Rob

Like greatoutdoors says, its a damn tricky subject. I have heard interviews with pro TV producers (fact or fiction series on UK tele, I never saw it myself but sure looked interesting). Guy said they had orbs on a professional digital video camera which were moving under the directions of a medium. They had pictures of these orbs on the site and they looked a fair bit like the above pictures...

I have also seen orbs moving around on less professional cameras, zigging and zagging...

And some other guy I spoke to aaaages ago on these forums, posted me some pitures he took of orbs, which he saw floating around his house during the day (!!!). Again, looked a lot like above..

But! Some of them must be dust. As was mentioned, diffraction patterns and all (heh didnt think of that well spotted ). To the person who asked - these are patterns made by light as it diffracts around physical objects...

oh yeah, and for the record, "rods" are almost certainly just insects, the pattern they make is due to the shutter speed of the camera....lol and I found the topic so interesting for so long! Oh well eh?

Diffraction patterns are a dead give away of Dust and water droplets in the air.

It's also difficult to believe "orb" pics when they occur in flash photos especially built in ones. If anyone wants to create really good orb pics just spray some water in front of a camera and take a flash photo. The image will be filled with orbs and if yer camera is decent you'll see the diffration patterns too

Uhh weird. I used to see these all the time when I was younger, but I just thought it was an eye problem. Then, I stopped noticing them. Apparently it wasn't an eye problem, or I'd still see them. Today, I tried focusing, and started seeing them again a little bit.
