Webroot spy sweeper is one of the best programs I have bought to keep my computer safe so far. It stops almost all of the little buggers (spyware) from coming on my computer in the first place.

This program costed me in the neighborhood of just under 30 bucks. I have had no problems with spyware since, but it's only been 3 days so we shal see.

BTW: yes this is better than adawareSE and Spybot, combined.

I have used both of those, and this is better than both of them combined.

GIANT AntiSpyware & PestPatrol have a fairly good reputation as well. GIANT is a very robust all inclusive system but use little resources. It monitors startup entries from the registry, has an user friendly interface and real-time protection against spywares. GIANT also invented the famous SpyNet, "a revolutionary answer to the endless barrage of new spyware software." Shame I use it illegally. But hey, now I make money for them.

also, try this.. not an antispyware but will save enormous time:

Why did you pay 30$ ? It's free.

One of the best is HijackThis, which you can find by simply googling.  But you need to be very careful using this if you're inexperienced with computers, it shows you a lot of stuff including the majority which isn't actually spyware, you need to pick out that which should and that which shouldn't be there.  So let a knowledgable person do it for you.

No it's not, It's upgrades are free for a year though. If you find a place where you found this free please post this.
