Actually, I can say that it is possible to do energy work while very intoxicated. The complication from lack of concentration is that directing the energy is a lot harder. It is like trying to run on wet ice, but not as painful. Having done both NEW and reiki while intoxicated, I can say that it isn't really any better to do either when drunk.

I have a little bit of achohol occasionally before hand..
I can't say being very intoxicated has brought me anything
but just enough to relax does seem to help me a bit
(especially if i do it in the day)
because then its like my body feels relaxed but I still have the daytime effect of not falling asleep

I dont know if it inhibits anything...but i certainly hope not because it sure seems like it helps!

Had a really good nights meditation after a lot of caffeine, Im not sure if this makes sence or not. I guess it is ment to help neurons fire faster which may help with consentration, but on the other hand you want your brain to slow down I guess.

From a drug addict who had a falling out and has now been sober for about four months, I'm realizing more and more that for me, chemicals do more harm than good. This includes the medications that I was prescribed at the beginning of treatment. Now, old habits die hard, and I consume a LOT of caffiene and nicotine, but I intend to eventually put down all chemicals and live as healthy a life as I can.

There's no doubt about it, chemicals have an effect on spiritual activities, and while some of these effects may be construed as positive or helpful, when I learned the real effects of chemicals on the mind, body, and spirit (including caffiene and similar 'commonly accepted chemicals') I can't justify their use.

Keep in mind, this is someone who once preached the pros of drugs wherever he went and used to meditate with marijuana. I've totally been there. Of course, everyone has to come to their own conclusions. I'm sure a lot of you have heard the saying before that goes 'you can get a lot higher without chemicals than with.' Even now it's hard for me to fully believe this, but I see it as a challenge too: just how high can I get? I mean, that mentality will always be there, I'm an addict. The thing is, what am I addicted to? Healthy things, or unhealthy things?

No bull, when I got sober my energetic development and meditation/trance ability went through the roof. And compared to before, the awareness and present-moment mindfulness that Buddhism taught me has brought an unheard-of clarity to my life. Clarity of vision, of mind, and an energetic/psychic clarity.

I wish all of you the best and encourage you to at least research the chemicals you use in-depth. God bless...

My question was actually rather intended to be like this- Do I have to stop drinking beer in the eavnings in order to keep up my NEW work?
Not if alcohole has a positive effect...
I do like beer and drink beer sometimes in the eavnings, and always like to do my energy work late in the eavnings before bed. And I have quite a dilema because I like to drink beer, but I like to do NEW too!

But thats my opinion

Actaully I did look into caffine the other week to see what exactly it does. From what I read i don't thin it would help your neruons fire faster. The big thing it does do is cause your blood vessels constrict and makes blood flow harder therefore increasing your blood pressure not to mention making it harder on your heart.

It is also quite addicting though I'm sure alot of you including me don't need to be told that. But its also alot harder to avoid since it comes naturally in alot of things wuch as chocolate is full of it and dark chocolate is even worse. There is still 9-15 mg's of caffine in a cup of decaffinated coffee which is better than the 235-250 mg is the usual cup. Coffee Ice cream has lkie 40 mg per cup. One ounce of milk chocolate has 15 mg of natural caffine and an ounce of dark chocolate has 35mg.
Most pain killers have it in it since caffine helps acetaminophine work better.

How much caffeine is too much really depends on your individual tolerance. For some, the 9 milligrams in a milk chocolate bar will go without notice. But a person who is extremely sensitive or who's had too much may experience side effects, such as an elevated heart rate, nausea and vomiting, restlessness, anxiety, depression, tremors, and difficulty sleeping.

So thats about it. With some help some web md Smiley

Also looked up codine and doctors still don't even know how it works they just know it does. Nice eh Smiley

Wery interesting!

I tried to learn to drink coffe once (it can be usefull when one goes
to different places where coffe is the only thing served- and itīs a
social thing to I guess..)
Anyway, I had a cup of coffe, and then to my surprise I feelt
pretty sick the whole day! Not in the stomage, but rather I feelt
other things.. a restlesness, and general feeling of unwellness..

So I will not touch coffe again!

There are over 50 species called coffee. Two are used commercially. Only one has any hope of having a decent flavor, but the other species grows better and is more resistant to disease. When the right coffee is chosen, though, and picked by hand and sorted and processed (including roasting) and used while fresh, there are still possible ways for it to taste bad. The quality of the water, the way it is filtered, temperature, exposure to oxygen, and several other factors are involved. It isn't necessarily the caffeine which causes unpleasant symptoms such as nausea. It is often the oils and acids which are less troublesome in higher quality coffee. The way it is prepared can also lower the levels of these things.

Caffeine pills with ephedrine (the brand I like is called "yellow jackets") seem to help me with meditation. My biggest problem is becoming cold and drowsy when trying to meditate. This is usually because of lack of sleep now. Suppressing the symptoms works for me.

This thread was initially about alcohol. Alcohol causes dehydration and it is not good on any of the systems of the body. In small quantities, though, someone who is healthy shouldn't have much trouble with it. The loss of water and vitamins should be easily replaced. If you consider the energy we use in NEW as being like electricity, though, the amount of water in the body and the concentrations of salts in that water might be significant. Dehydration could increase the concentration of salts in the body unless those salts are flushed out of the body. I don't know what happens exactly. What I do know is that the more salts in solution the more conductive it becomes.

Dose active music promote the effect of NEW? or dose it have the opposit effect? I have tried to do NEW while listening to energetic music, but it made it harder to concentrate and focus. I usually prefere to listen to some wery quiet and slow music while doing NEW. This might just be a matter of haibt though. After all it is said that NEW can be practised waliking or on the buss too. I guess that it al comes down to concentration- and the ability to shut of external influences.

William Buhlman (author of "Adventures Beyond the Body") has CDs out with music for astral projection. Other things, too, I think. They are designed to cause a shift in consciousness to make things easier, but are not enough in themselves. I think we've concluded that if something works, you should use it.

When I use new sometimes I like to listen to dark ambient music.  I like a lot of darkwave without lyrics (kind of goth ambient stuff that has a lot of viola and dark atmosphere)  Not that Im getting into feeling evil, it just puts me in a mindset that seems to help.  I associate the dark music with night time and night time with meditation and sleep, and so ..i dunno its weird but I seem to do pretty good with it.  The problem is a lot of songs have some type of instrument that kind of stands out when your in meditation, and it will often shatter the silence so to speak (even if its not really all that much louder then the rest) so its hard to find music perfect.  I have a lot of ambient and the more upbeat stuff always seems to have those distracting noises. I love the songs looking glass (reprise version) and poppies by amber asylum.  smiley

I think using any medication natural or otherwise is not a problem, however, pink elephants and other things can happen.

When I was a student at uni many years ago I was of the persuasion that the more alcohol one drank the better one felt. One night I was partying and so drunk that I had to go to my friends place to sleep it off. He was house-sitting a very old house who's owner, an old lady, was in a nursing home waiting to die.

I can't remember how I got there, I hope I didn't drive. Anyway I fell into the first bedroom I came across and crashed as one does in these situations. I woke up some time in the morning, the room was clothed in a pale ice-blue light, as though the sun was about to rise, and standing in front of me was this old lady, not really old but like in her fifties. It was the owner of the house, rather polite and nice, not being nasty to me at all.

I was sitting up in the bed talking to her. She wore a white gown all the way to the floor and she too shone with a pale light. I remember that she spoke to me about my future, I can't remember many details because when I realised that I was talking to someone who wasn't really there I excrement myself. I hid under the blankets and fell alseep until dawn.

I don't know if alcohol caused this to happen, because it happened again not too long afterwards at another house with a different 'ghost', and I wasn't drunk that time.

But I do think that alcohol and other drugs, natural or otherwise, are best left alone when trying to develop spiritually.

By the way, I have since met a lot of 'people' who have died in similar situations, mostly on the astral plane, my father several times and friends, and have regular OOBs, so I am not bull sh_ting here.

i think i am going to respond to astral c comments on drugs being left alone for spiritual development.

i agree.

i have only done marijuana and mushrooms once each in my life and both experiences were harmful to my body, though my mind was generally left alone. it seems my body is very picky about what substances are good for it and what isn't. i'm not sure if this is how it is with everyone's body, and that i am just able to feel the pain more accutely, but i think drugs are best left alone.

except for ALC*hic*HOL! Smiley just cause all it does is dehydrate me and gives me similar effects to sleep depravation.

Hi, all.

I think that it comes down to the individual and what they are trying to accomplish. I personnally have no luck with anything that "wakes me up". I cannot quit my concious mind enough to make the proper links to the subconcious. But this is just me. Alchohol has some effect, sometimes, but more from the relaxation side. I also notice this with nicotene, if I have not been smoking much, and am in a frame of mind to let the effects hit. It does not last very long 10-15 minutes, which is enough time to drop into a light "trance", but it always feels "unclean".

Having been the child of a hippie, with a stepfather that was a biker, and growing up in a VERY liberal climate, I have tried most "recreational" drugs. I will not comment on most, as I have left that part of my life behind me, but I am sure if you could control them ALOT could be done with certain psychedlics. Before I became "aware" of the non physical, I was doing things that I am still trying to accomplish. But I watched TO MANY people I cared about get lost with/from chemical abuse.

I DO NOT recomend trying that path, it can be achieved in a much more controlled (and recoverable) way without them. That being said, I have had some of my strongest awareness times when an old friend shared some marijuanna for old times sake. Maybe it was that I was properly relaxed or something. It also was effective (for me) in very small amounts only, if I was to "stoned" I couldn't do much at all. Of course that is true with all drugs. smiley

I find other things can get you to almost the same place, with MUCH more control. A hot bath, maybe with a glass of wine or 1 beer, a good massage,  using NEW or something similiar to relax your body and work out the kinks, and letting the stress of life dissipate before starting all works well for me.

Good luck, and make sure you control your lifestyle, not vice-versa.

Hey everyone !

I cannot advise using music for meditation or similar purpose, unless you want to meditate on the music...

Music will make it easier for beginners to calm their minds, as they have something to process, but generally I found it slows my developement.

Practicing concentration will yield much better results http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile.gif" border=0>

Like others who have posted here, I have a difficult time getting in touch with my higher self after having consumed any kind of foerign substance, even regular food (in large quantities)...

Because all of our bodies (albeit subtle bodies, etheric, etc.) are connected and if we have something affecting one of them in an unnatural way, it's going to throw it all off...  there's my two cents.

I find that when my life has become real busy, and I have sort of forgotton about doing energy work, meditation or any other development, that smoking some Marijuana, basically clears my mind, and the day after I feel more apt to do things of this nature, but I can't because of the blockage of the day after effect.

Doing light rec drugs, basically Marijuana,  is what woke me up from all the trivial things in the day time we think are important, and opened my eyes up to the world of infinate possiblites. Doing this told me that if a simple substance can change my perception of reality, then there has to be more to the world then I knew, and I was so very right.

I find that using drugs always induces very strong experiences when used with new or attempting AP ...BUT  it does seem to produce a weird reaction where I cant feel energy very well or project for at least a day or two (even with marijuana)

But i find my experiences to be worth a couple days of drained-ness
but thats just my opinion (i say that a lot)

Is it a problem to do NEW after drinking a few beers? I really donīt mean doning it in a drunk state, but rather after a glas or two of vine or some beers. The same goes for meditation- a small amount has a relxing effect on the mind (and the body?). Concentration might get a bit harder, but relaxation might get easier. And how NEW is effected by alcohol is an interesting question to. Obvously, to much alcohole wil give concentration problems, but above from that? I would love to hear some opinions!

As descartes said as he emtied the poison cup -"I drink therefore I am"
- or was it sokrates??  ( lol Smiley
