I concocted my first potion this morning, during the first rays of dawn on Thursday, the first planetary hour of Lemon Balm, also known as Melissa. It's a pretty simple procedure, it will take a week or so to settle and let the components leech from the plant, then i'll recombine them.

On a whim, i also bought some myrhh (sp?) from the herbal store. Does anyone know the magical effects of using the magical alchemical aspects of this herb? I've found info on the magical aromatherapy, but i don't think that's quite the same as crafting a potion from it, although probably similar.

My dear friend Hans Nintzel (RIP) was a true alchemist. Not the armchair variety. He died from imbibing his own potions. This, in spite of 20-25 yrs experience, including training with some top alchemists when younger.
There is real alchemy. It is a spiritual work and very rewarding for those who do the work correctly.
I know the chemical path is interesting, but remember, there is no "censor in the sky" who ensures what is printed is true. In the esoteric orders there is.

Greetings,

True alchemy is not about physical transmutation but rather Spiritual transmutation. Specifically it is the process of which we are all engaged and that is the transmutation of the base metal, corresponding to the physical, energy and Astral bodies, into the "Gold" of the enobled Spirit.

This is also analogous to the "water into wine" story. The element of water represents the Astral body or Soul, and "Wine" represents the element of fire, or "Spirit" and this story is therefore analogous to the transmutation of "lead" into "Gold".

As with many, if not most of these stories, they have been interprted in a material way, rather than the true symbolic meaning.

the very problems that come from translating Alchemical imagery into practice come from the fact that most illustrations talk in PHYSICAL terms [like melting, smelting, etc] whereas they symbolise soul/astral/etc transformations.

So, are you saying that the there is little value in the process of tinctures and potions? I admit my expertise in the area is minimal, but i DID understand from my source that the potion would be most effective from a spiritual standpoint. Well, my lemon balm had no noticeable effect, but then again, i wasn't really sure what to expect.

Thank you for the "water to wine" analogy, that was very useful. I hadn't heard it put quite that way before.

Think of your potion as a magical spell (if you are to speak in witchcraft terms).

There is no point/benefit in a ritual/spell if you do not understand/implement the deeper (spiritual) meaning of it.

The making of a potion can be classified as a ritual, or spell, or whatever... and therefore can be assumed to follow the same rule.

If anything, the process of making a potion is more important than the end result.

Ummm the first planetary hour on Thursday is "Jupiter" hence the term "Planetary Hour". I'm just curious ... where did you get the info that it was "Lemon Balm"? It's probably just a tradition that I wasn't aware of but I would appreciate knowing where it came from. Thanxz!

i just meant that Lemon Balm was associated with Jupiter and Thursday. I suppose i did word it incorrectly. And i found the "recipe" for the potion online, where i find almost everything. http://www.hermetic.com/stavish/ The author had broken it into three articles of practical plant alchemy.

Whenever reading about the Philosopher Stone, the explanations always sounded as "physicalised" advice on how to manipulate energy--why would a "normal" chemical substance WORK as the stories describe the effects of the Stone [including people immediately loosing dozens of yeras in age and returning to their "prime of life" age/looks]??

[for me the critical evaluations are the most informative, as the authors pursue with a vehmence their Anti-Alchemical QUEST, passing on a lot of informaiton, that THEY consider funny, stupid, useless, whereas WE know it for what it IS...]

Funnily, you MUST follow the Path of the True Alchemist yourself in gathering all the information about Alchemy and Alchemists, and that requires patience, time, perseverance, dedication.

The information is Out There, and it waits for those who want to find it.

Check amazon.com for Plant alchemy and An intruduction to chemistry and you will see alot of recomended book how ever if you dont like to purchuse some just as you said

Go to the libary and look im sure you at least can find some history on "Parcelus" or some other alchemist
