If I might make a suggestion, it sounds like there might be one (or
more) of three problems:

1) insufficient relaxation - make sure to do the deep relaxation
prep work for AT LEAST 10 minutes before starting.  I usually do
about 15 minutes.  I cannot express just how much of a huge,
night-and-day type of difference this makes!!

2) not having your mind cleared - the problems I usually have here
are from either losing concentration (and having my thoughts wander)
or having too much internal dialog/noise.  Practicing to keep my
focus on internal breathing has been a godsend for me.  It's not
easy at first, and you'll tense up, get distracted and start to get
frustrated...but the more you do it, the easier it gets...trust me.

3) not having your energy raised - the methods outlined in AD are
the best I have ever seen and used.  Re-read the sections on NEW
and follow them to the 'T'.  Slowly, but surely, you will feel a
difference...not only when you're doing your meditations/trance work,
but all day!

Hope this helps.

How does one know when they are in trace I mean I know there are sensations but I think i dont feel them.  Does one always feel trance senstaions or can they be light as well?

G,day DOA,
Yes only 50% of the time do I feel vibrations, I still have an OBE
regardless of them occuring ( the vibrations ).
Roger hit on some good points, his no.1 & no.2 statements, I do this as well, but slightly different.
If I am not allready in a relaxed state, I do some karate stretches
or yoga stretches ,which will help you relax more & help you to
identify where you are still tense or have muscle knots.
A clear mind is a key factor, so try to get worries off your brain
& tell yourself they can wait to be addressed tomorrow. If you still
cant clear your head, try this trick, just concentrate on the air
going in & out of your mouth or nose, think about the sound it makes &
how it feels to coming in & out of your airways.
On getting into the OBE, or even the trance, heres what I do,well
at least one of my favourites techniques.I,m not sure what
techniques you have used or read about, ( there are quite a lot )
but mine might sound a bit disturbing to you, so I,m sure you will
weigh up whats best for you.
What you want to do is give your brain the impression that
" something " of you is separating from the rest, either sinking
down, falling down, rising up or rolling out.
So use whatever " impression " that makes sense to you the most.Your
name is perfect here DOA, or the rope or a ladder or a balloon or
an elevator or water just to name a few.
I sometimes use DOA myself with excellent success, I think of a lump
of meat or a corpse that is me,its heavy ,motionless & literally
relaxed.Still not working? throw it onto a pool of quicksand & feel
it sink away.Hope thats not too graphic for you, but by your name
it probably isnt.
Hope I,ve helped in some way &
All the best on your journeys

DOA, in response to your question.  AD outlines three different levels of trance.  This is how I relate to them.

LIGHT - You'll feel a little distant from your body and at peace.  This is the first one you'll hit.

HEAVY - A feel of heaviness comes over you.  Your movements and
thoughts and perception of time will begin to change.  Body vibrations
and hightened sensitivity will begin to take place.

DEEP - The verge of sleep.  Strong detachment and strong vibrations.
This level has been always the most uncontrollable for me.

Roger I have read the book and what they describe as trance states I can honestly say I am not sure I have felt them.  I have tried alot of techniques with verying success but no control Ill have a lucid dream and then not have anything for several months.  I really think I am one of those people who feel nothing.  And that has been my problem finding the right time or place.  Have any of you ever gone out of body and observed another while they are trying a technique?  Just a thot.  And DOA stands for Dead or Alive but for purposes of your explanation it does work well.   Thanks for responding

Hmmm...Dead or Alive 3, I hope an Xbox fan.  ;)  (sorry, a little
OT, I just finished Halo on the hardest level and am still pumped)

I think, and would wager that Robert would agree with me, that
ANYONE can get into a trance state repeatedly and reliably.  You
just have to focus on the following 2 things: deep relaxation and
a clear mind.  I know you can do it.

Are you maybe trying too hard?  Think about it like you are getting
ready to drift off to a comfortable sleep.  Instead of trying hard
to accomplish these things, let them flow naturally.  Do the deep
relaxation exercises (don't skimp) and focus on your breathing and
don't keep checking every few seconds for sensations, they will
come, I promise.  :)

One note:  Don't consider those three trance states as being
objectives or goals that you are trying to "attain".  They are
merely descriptive terms of stages you'll pass through normally
(you do it every night before falling asleep).  You'll do it. I'm
certain as everyone can with the right mindset and enough practice.

Mobius you mentioned in another post about not feeling vibrations.  I have not really felt anything either.  I think that has been one of my biggest problems is I dont have alot of feelings even for trance state so I lay there and nothing.  How do you know when you can leave if you dont feel anything?  I am unsure what trace feels like becouse the sensations are so mild.  I do feel slight things with the rope technique but i always feel too awake if that sounds correct.
