I think this is pretty much what I go through every time I hit that strange feeling of heaviness, lightness, largeness, etc. and any time I try to do anything other than maintain the feeling, it goes away and I feel the same way you do: like I've lost the trance and am fully awake.  I don't know if it's a bad thing because I always become very very clear-minded and awake after I've reached and lost this state.

I don't have any definate answers, but I think I'll just try to focus on sticking with it for longer meditation periods.  Instead of reaching this state and trying to project after a few minutes, I think i'll try to maintain this state for an hour or so.

From what I gather, the biggest proplem with my inability to project is a lack of long-term dedication, but I'm improving.  I used to not want to meditate for more than an hour, now I wish I had three hours most of the time.  The point is, I'm just going to keep trying and continue to improve.  Looking back and noticing my progress really pushes me forward.

I guess basically what I'm saying is take things one step at a time.  If we keep working with the trance state, mental focus, and especially energy work, we should both be able to project sooner or later.

(My heart does the same thing sometimes and I know its not my heart chakra.  I'm not sure what to tell you, but your probably right in that it's not that big a deal)

LotusLegs,

Yes I guess practise, practise, practise is only the real solution here.

SmileySpirit14,

Are you sure about that? Perhaps you are right, it's quite annoying/distracting though.

Thank you both for your replies.

I am not 100% sure why the heart speeds up, but I have heard others say it is the increased energy, and it has happened to me.

All I can say is that many things try to distract you from the trance.  They must all simply be ignored.  It is just another thing that must be passivley observed and allowed to go.

Consider it part of the experience, or part of your training if you prefer.  Wink

Hey Pat,

I think I just found something that would better explain your problem.

Go to this page <http://www.astralpulse.com/guides/oobe/oobe_8.htm#5>

This is part of The Bruce's Treatise of OOBE.  If the link doesn't work, go to the astralpulse homepage, click on training, Treatise on OOBE, look at park 7, and click on Lost Focus During The Exit.

If you haven't read this whole document I would suggest doing so.  If you have read it, but it's been a while, I suggest reading it again. (I've recently found several answers to my questions that I didn't know were in the document until I read up on them.)

This little paragraph is good news for me because it means that I may have projected already, but lost my focus and didn't allow my astral body to impress the memories onto me.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the link LotusLegs!  Very interesting indeed.

Especially interesting was this:
During an oobe, a projector is virtually invulnerable and can pass through solid matter, sit on ground zero during an atomic blast, or even to bask within the heart of a supernova unscathed. The only thing to fear while out of body is 'fear' itself. Nothing else can directly hurt a projector and nothing can get at their physical body and mind during a conscious projection. While it is fairly rare to come across anything nasty or negative during a projection, any troublesome entity a projector might stumble across cannot, therefore, directly harm them. They can, however, show themselves as a form designed to scare the daylights out of a projector, and this can cause psychologically damage. This can also result in a subconscious fear of OOBE. It can cause an instinctive, negative baulking type of reaction which can ruining every conscious exit. This can stop a projector from enjoying conscious OOBE for the remainder of their life, unless they can program themselves to overcome it. If this is already the case, I suggest a course of affirmations and self hypnosis be used to overcome it.

LotusLegs,

Thanks, I am very familiar with Bruce's theories regarding the missing of the split. However I am not sure why you think it's good news. To me it sounds like awful news... I really do not like that theory at all. And I much rather have failed the whole projection than not having remembered it.

However in the cases mentioned above, missing the split is really not an issue. Bruce explains how when this happens you experience full or partial paralysis. And that you feel exhausted, and soon fall into a deep sleep. The problems mentioned above is the total opposit. Everything stops, the feelings of my body returns, I can move it without any effort at all, and I feel very awake and energized.

I have projected earlier, and know how it feels to center myself in each body. I have both centered myself in the physical body laying on bed, while at the same time feeling my astral one "walking" on the floor. As well as centering myself in the astral body while still feeling my physical laying on the bed.

I don't know why the trance state suddenly just "stops". But when it happens I am suddenly very awake, all numbness gone etc. And since the astral body can't be outside the physical body while I am walking around, that can't be the reason. Of course there is a chance I separated, layed in bed thought I was still in trance, and it was the return on the astral body which caused me to "awake" and get all senses back. But I really doubt that too for many reasons. For instance since the heart continued to beat excessively until the moment the trance was over, and I did not feel exhausted nor paralysed.

Thanks though, I guess there's not much to do than practise, practise, practise and observe what happens moments before I loose the trance like that.

Doesnt sound like you missed it, did you feel vibrations or anything before the racing heart? RB says if you feel the vibrations then heart racing, then you might have missed it. Ive had very strong heart beat sensations too and cant believe its not the real heart. Id like to know if anyone has ever put heart rate monitors on or anything to test it? I never want to stop and feel my pulse just incase Im about to project for the first time! Smiley

Whats this "edge" youre about to hit? and can you shed any more light on the feeling heavy and light at the same time thing? Ive gotten to a state where my body feels kinda numb, and my extremities feel like numb masses, etc, but Ive never had the heavy/light feelings.

Cheers.

JAW,

The heart is very active during the entire trance, and not like the final step where you feel the heart chakra going insane. Perhaps it's increased energy, or perhaps it's just me being excited, not sure. And since the heart is active during the entire trance, it has nothing to do with the splitting process.

When I go into trance, the first thing that happens is that the body starts to feel numb. Which indicates it is falling asleep. During this time it's important for me not to think about the mouth, and to clear saliva etc since strong feelings of saliva causes the need to swallow which ruins the trance.

After a while the body has become more numb, I have a harder time knowing exactly where my arms are located (but can still usually feel them at location still). When I have hit this stage my body is basically asleep, and I have no longer problem with saliva.

At around this stage or shortly before the body starts to feel quite heavy. The deeper I go the more heavy it feels. I continue to concentrate, and go deeper, and while I do that the body gets more heavy, and I get more relaxed.

Eventually there is an "edge", I have only made it to this edge a few times. The times I've made it that far is when the concentration has been just right, and I have managed to stay fully focused on one thing for a long time. If I do manage to stay concentrated long enough to cross this edge, the body gets a strange heavy/light feeling. It feels very heavy like normal when I am this deep, but at the same time it feels very light. A guess of mine (and note it's only a guess) is that perhaps at this stage the energy double has been generated, but I am yet to project. I might here sort of feel two bodies, the physical which is heavy, and the astral which is light, which gives this strange feeling. But I have yet not really projected, so if I move I will move the physical and everything is ruined.

As I said, it's quite difficult to get to this stage, and have only done it perhaps 3-4 times. The last time it happened was when I lost myself totally in a repeated counting, I got so caught up in it that I succeeded to cross this heavy/light boarder.

In a way this does sound like having missed the split, but I really do not think that is the case - for above mentioned reasons.

(this is a reply to your last message to me about Bruces' doc.)

Oh I see Patrik,

That really gives me something to chew on, but, as always, there is nothing much to do except practice.

I have actualy had an OBE where my body was still walking around and fully active. It was a strange experience but the memories of it I have are on the side of my projected double. I was floating around above the head of my body observing it have a fully active conversation with a freind of mine. I then watched as my body walked away back into my house. If you'd like to read the full acount it's on page ten of this forum entitled: The necessity of trance during projection?

Just thought I'd let you know

Two things going through my mind regarding trance problems currently.

First of all, for some reason my heart always wants to speed up and/or beat a lot harder when I go into trance. I think this has to do with excitement, but still I am not really excited... I have been practising trance for many months, and one would think the "excitement" would have vanished by now... And for the people who imidiately start jumping to conclusions that it is the heart chakra, I am pretty sure it's not... Well it could be, but sure doens't feel like it... Sometimes I manage to get a steady low beat, but then I start thinking about it and voila it's beating hard/fast again... This is perhaps not a huge problem, but sure is annoying when trying to go into trance...

The second problem is more of a real problem... Often, if not most of the time or always, when I manage to get quite deep. My body is very heavy, and I feel I am really starting to get progress in the deepness of the trance. I feel I am about to hit the edge where my body feels strangely heavy, and light at the same time, which I have entered a few times. POFF and my body is fully awake, not numb or anything. When it happens I don't feel that I have broken the concentration, and I sure didn't move the body...

Anyone having any thoughts ...?

Thanks.
