How does karma work? Does it exist?

I've had generally better experiences near the times I do "good" things, more times than not. It could be coincidence, but in this thread I want to explore the possibility that there is some balancing force (karma).

We should consider the amount of energy a person has, how that energy affects others, and how that energy is obtained and drained. Is there an external force that decides what we do is good or bad, or do our unconscious thoughts or others' thoughts decide? Or is it just coincidence?

Be as logical as you can. I'd hate to end the thread with "its god's will".
