Title: A problem with photo uploading
Post by: Fwewyu Tìomumä on January 12, 2013, 22:12:26
Hey guys,

I've been recently trying to update my avatar, but I keep getting this message:
"The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved."

Any ideas?

Hi there :)

Yup, it's just as the error sounds... uploading avatar graphics isn't supported at this time.

What you need to do is upload your images elsewhere and link to that.  Personally, I use a dropbox account for mine.  Works great.

You can use any image hosting site, such as Photobucket or Imageshack... if they're even still around these days.  LoL

Hi,
Reading an early days post from Adrian, the ideal size is 64 x 64 and the file type .jpg is supported. I have tried a few times at this size using .gif with no success from dropbox. I can't change the file type as I use a phone but eventually will email the pic to a friend who'll change the filetype for me.
Until I get a response its the waiting game...
If there's more to this since that earlier date due to forum updates then a pointer may be required in the direction of how.
Thanks guys.

I use free image hosting site: http://postimage.org/ (http://postimage.org/)

Note: Anyone can search & view any uploaded images.

I tried uploading to a site first, but all I got was the little error picture you now see in my avatar.

I even tried resizing it first to 64x40, but that didn't work either.

You might not be using the correct link.

No, it's the right one. There are only 4 options, a regular link (being used), 2 BBC code links for forums, and an HTML link.

Then all I can think of is the format of the image file you're using is conflicting.

Try JPG, if you're not already.  :)

Yeah...I'm using .jpg .

I guess I'll leave it blank or try other formats for now.

i was trying to change mine also and i've used both dropbox and postimage.org to upload to/

i've resized to 64x64pixels which was suggested on an old thread.
I'm using .jpg format and have tried .gif.

i can't get it to upload.

Dropbox does me give a https: link. How do i get dropbox to give me link that's not s?

Is that's what's not allowing me to give a new avatar link?

I don't know, but I do know that I got a .gif from DeviantArt.com to work just an hour ago. I didn't save the .gif, just copied the main page link with the .gif on it. As you can see, it works!

Copy the link and remove the "s" yourself.

I've removed the "s" and it doesn't work on the Pulse.
When i remove the "s" and copy the link without it, my web browsers just add the "s" back in. I can see the image at that address but i figure that may be because dropbox is on this computer.
