Hi Mustardseed,

Sometimes I overlook this forum but just came across your post. I've added a response Below that I copied from another post of mine. If that doesn't solve the problem then you may want to try a direct pm to Adrian.

So how do you upload an avatar?

The way I did it was to go to http://www.e-cadfael.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Avatars.htm and pick out an avatar. Then I right-clicked on the photo. In the drop-down menu I selected "save picture as", then saved it to the "my pictures" folder (although you can save it to any location you want).

Then I opened up the little box here at the astral pulse for uploading your photo/avatar. In the right portioon of the box I clicked on the "browse" button. Then the "my pictures" folder, then I highlighted the photo by left-clicking on it, then clicked on "open" at the bottom right of the "my pictures" folder box.

The last step saved it to the Astral Pulse (upload) box. Then a few hours later, after the photo was approved, I looked and found it in the "Avatar Legend" section. Then I went to my "Member Profile" and selected it and clicked "submit".

The operating system I use is Windows XP which has a "My Pictures" folder which like a number of other features on XP, is more intuitive than its predecessors. However, I believe saving the photo to another folder, even one you create for the purpose, will do.

You should note that any avatar you pick has to be 64 x 64 pixels (or close to it).

Very best,

Nick, I've been trying to download an Avatar like you suggested above and it works great until I "Upload" it, then I keep getting a pop-up message that "the page cannot be found". Any suggestions? The file was from "my pictures" file.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.[:D]

Hi Candieapple,

In addition to what I wrote above, I'll highlight the steps for the "upload". First, go to the top of the page where it says Resources and click on that. A drop down menu will appear. One of the choices will read Avatar Legend. Click on that.

Next, a web page will appear. Around the middle of the page will be the words Upload Your Own Avatar. Click on this.

Then, a dialog box will appear. You will see the words Add New Avatar. Next, you will see where it reads "Choose File" (followed by a space) the the word "Browse". Click on "Browse".

At this point use my first set of instructions above (in the post to Mustardseed) for inserting your avatar from your My Pictures folder. Give it a name in the space provided, then click the words Upload Avatar.

Remember, it takes a while for Adrian to review the Avatar and approve it. This is because he receives many requests every day, and is very busy. Also, make sure that the Avatar you select is as close to 64 x 64 pixels as possible.

Hope that the above answers your question better. Good luck! [:)]

Very best,

Nick, thanks so much for the reply.

However, I'm still getting the "Page cannot be found" reply. I went to the avatar website you suggested and picked Page 6, #509 (64X64) pyramid.art and it downloaded fine into "my pictures" file.

I then went to Avatar legend, Upload Your Own Avatar, Choose File,Browse, went to my "c" drive, choose "my pictures" file, highlighted the picture #509, its address automatically went onto the "Choose file" line as C:/My documents/My pictures/New folder/509.art. Then I choose "upload avatar". And still the "Page cannot be found" reply comes up. I tried it with a different picture from the avatar website and that one wouldn't work either. I also tried this process in the "edit personal profile" and the "page cannot be found" reply comes up. I don't know what wrong? Any ideas?[:(]

I may have done it twice.  1st i uploaded in my edit profile section yesterday.  Today I went to the Avatar Legend & saw that nothing was uploaded so I did it again from the Avatar Legend.

I don't know if it's taking more than a few hours or if it's not working.  Is it possible for it to take longer?  The pic is 64 X 64 pixels.

Deva,

From the looks of it, you now have an avatar. [:)] Hopefully all is now well.

Candieapple,

I am not sure what might be happening with the problem you cited. I did go ahead and alert our administrator, Adrian regarding this. He is generally very busy. Hopefully we/you will hear something soon.

All the best,

Candieapple, I just tried what you did and it works...  The only extra step I took is to put a name for the avatar...

Hi Mustardseed,

Adrian is the one who takes care of the avatars. I will let him know. As you are no doubt aware, he is currently working on the Astral Pulse servers. As a result, some of the other matters have piled up, such as approving avatars. It should not be too much longer before things get back to normal. [:)]

All Avatars come to me for approval, mostly to ensure that they are the correct dimensions of 64x64 pixels, but also to ensure that they are not in breach of Astral Pulse acceptable standards in any way.

Assuming your Avatar is 64x64 pixels, I would normally approve it within a few hours depending on the time of the day.

If it hasn't been approved by now I suggest you upload it again, first ensuring that the size is the correct 64x64 pixels.

With best regards,

Adrian.
