Title: Helping newer members
Post by: Nay on May 10, 2004, 17:07:33
Hey Yerzak!  I did see your suggestion before and it is a good one, we have been working for awhile on a FAQ's forum..but I'm sorry to say we haven't gotten it all done yet..[:I] Life and all steps in, keeping all us Mods pretty busy.

If you have any suggestions that you think should go in the FAQ's forum, please PM me with it and I will add it to the forum, well as soon as I go thru it with a fine tooth comb..LOL.  and if anyone else has input please do the same..  Once we get a good number of FAQ's Adrian will start up the engines..[^] Now if only we could be assured people read it first..[:P]

I'd gladly make an "Acronyms" FAQ to list all the existing acronyms you'd see here often.

AP
OBE (OOBE)
DBZ
LD
RTZ
FAQ ([|)])

That's my 30-second list.  Add more here and I'll put it up when I can...or Nay will.  Whoever comes first.

As Nay and Squeek wrote, we'll get the FAQ forum running soon. It hopefully will be used, and will answer a lot of common questions. Unfortunately, a FAQ forum, sticky topics, search engine, and file library won't help unless (as Nay pointed out) people read them.

There is a tendency (for some anyway) to ask questions without searching for previous topics on the same issue. Chances are, the same question, or similar question has been asked and answered a good number of times, maybe even a few days earlier.

All members can help out by just pointing the 'new' member to the proper thread, or suggesting they do a proper search. [;)]

hello, this is somthing i posted in another thread but i dont think it got viewed, and i think it belonged here anyways.

"i have an idea, we could have something like a newbie mentoring service. New members could just post that they want a mentor to help them around the forum and explain alot of the important stuff, like not to post new thread when there are already existing ones pertaining to the same subject. Also they could have alot of the basic questions answered like what do LD, OBE, RTZ, ect. stand for. This would help minimize all those repeating threads that people post over and over again. Eh eh mods, what do yall think of this."
