Greetings
Two or three days I ago I started a new post in the "Welcome to Out of Body Experiences" forum (or it might have been the the "Welcome to Astral Projection" forum.
The title of the post was "Two Recent OBEs" (or something very similar to that). Just a few minutes ago I went looking for that post to see if there were any replies and could not find it! Completely gone. I'm sure it was there because I checked it for spelling and grammar errors After it had successfully posted.
Can anyone help me find the missing Post !?!

Thanx  :-D

Spammers have been hitting that board like mad; maybe one of us accidently deleted it while clearing the spam- sorry if that is the case.

That's probably exactly what happened.

I'd actually go as far as suggesting that everyone just use the 2nd forum from the top to post your actual threads.
As far as I'm concerned, we have too many forum subjects really.  LoL

I read your post and was gonna comment but it timed out because of the spam overload.

I don't remember your experiences but I do recall that you said you hadn't shared some in a while so you thought it was time to.
It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.

Hello all
Now this is getting downright Strange. After reading the replies in this thread I posted something to the effect that it's no big deal as I would repost the original (and disappeared) post back in the "Welcome to Out of Body Experiences" forum. And then promptly did just that. Now, about a day and a half later, I return to once again check to see if there any replies and find the "Two Recent OBEs' thread has completely disappeared (again). Not only that but my reply here in this thread is also Gone.
A truly WTF moment.
Any ideas as to what's going on?  :?

Sincerely
Grey

can't help the feeling ... but isn't this forum going more down-hill day by day? why doesn't anybody care for anti-spam measures anymore, then you would not have to do these purging campains every day .. it is such a sad thing to witness the good old Pulse die such a slow death ...

why not restrict every newly registered person to await moderation for their first 3 posts and we have no spam here anymore, works good for many other forums  :|

Indeed, that was my thought.

We do have pretty strong antispam measures, but I think manual account activation might be a good feature too-  I don't think there are enough new legitimate members that activating them would be more intensive than spam clearing, but I am not sure.

Check your PM messages Grey. Your answer to this question is there.

Unfortunately we are seeing how much of a hinderance all this Spam is and how many problems it can cause.

We Moderators are helpless here against it. All we can do is to keep banning the offenders and removing their Spam.

To fix it would cause Adrian to upgrade the entire program, which would probably result in a number of threads and information accumulated during the many years lost.

Xanth's program for his Forum is a newer one, but still gets targeted by Spammers. Although a new program has better defense.

These Spammers are also very cunning. Many of them created their memberships here a month ago and are just now attacking with Spam.

For every measure they find a countermeasure.  :-(

Personally I would go for manual account activation. It's better than having all this Spam. I don't think it would be that much extra work.

Well the phpBB software is free.
It would just require a *BOATLOAD* of time to convert the SMF database over to the new forum.
It wouldn't be a clean conversion though and things would get lost.

There are anti-spam measures for the SMF software... it would require an update to the latest version I believe though, and that too would require a small database conversion.

Either way, it's huge time investment... and Adrian is the only one who could do it.
