Title: Problem with PM...
Post by: Adrian on August 15, 2003, 10:18:42
Greetings vikram88,

It usually means that the number of characters is larger than the corresponding column in the database.

I have never seen this happen before with private messages though  - was it a very long message?

With best regards,

Adrian.

Hi Adrian,

Actually the reply was just the size of a normal post. I did another pm today and it worked just fine.

Wonder what the problem was.

I'll check it in MSDN.

And yes, Thanks.

Vikram.

Hi Adrian,

Sorry I'm replying so late.

Here's what MSDN says,

DB_E_DATAOVERFLOW 80040E57 CEDB Specific:

A literal value in the command text could not be stored in the type specified by the associated column.

Hope it helps.

The problem never occurred again.

Thanks again.

Vikram.

I am having the same MS OLE DB error listed a couple of posts above.

""Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e57'

String or binary data would be truncated.""

My pathname is different from that one above, but of course that would only make sense, because the path for the other page would be different, as does the line error being different.

I assumed that any connection over the internet to a site or page using SQL would be considered a client. Sorry to be confusing.  I'm not familiar with SQL or how it works exactly.

What I'm asking is this:

Why can 2 computers that I use get to the site and view the content on the site w/ no problems, while the one I use on a regular basis won't let me? Or ask that from the other direction; why can I not see this site on my computer when 2 others can.   All 3 computers are using IE6.0, winxp pro, and have all the updates done in the recommended updates section on the update site. ( security fixes, patches, Service Packs)

I'll be happy to elaborate on this further, if necessary.  Thank you again, for your time and effort in helping me.  My familiarity w/ the terminology is somewhat limited, and I hope that doesn't cause any more frustration than necessary.

Can this be fixed on my end... on my PC at home? or is this all on the other end...?

When I do a pm I get this message...

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e57'

String or binary data would be truncated.

/forums/privatesend_info.asp, line 339

I have done pm's before and such a thing never happened. Please do tell what is wrong.

Thx.
