Title: Profile photo setup issue
Post by: illuminated on May 20, 2020, 10:22:29
Hi,

I cannot seem to set my profile/avatar photo.

I have tried with two different formats of the photo, jpg and png, both with 64x64px size (has this requirement changed?) but no change is visible upon setting the URL's.

This is the link for the png version: https://i.imgur.com/dgeUHRK.png

Does anyone have an idea how to make this work?

Thanks,

Hi Illuminated and welcome to the Pulse!

If I recall correctly you have to use 'http' rather than the secure format 'https'.

Give that a try!  :-)

And thanks for the welcome!

Sorry about that... the forum software is actually pretty ancient and doesn't support a lot of things.
We also have very little recourse in regards to updating it.  Adrian and I have tried to update it in the past, with little success.

So we're kinda stuck with what we have for now.

No problem, it works now.

Re. the forum software - the more time passes, the harder it will be to do the upgrade, I believe you're aware of that :)

If you can spin up a new VM and copy this server there, it could be used as an upgrade playground without the fear something will break here, but I believe you've been able to do so already.

Well, essentially, Adrian takes care of all the back-end stuff.  It's entirely his forum.
I just help him run it cause he can't be here as often as he'd like.  He does check the server console quite regularly.

He owns the servers the forum runs on and it's in his residence.
He's very well versed in all of this stuff.  :)
